Hi guys, so I have yet to play any of these amazing series and I've been really wanting to get into them.

Right now, I'm more leaning towards starting Star Fox (since SFZ comes out this year) but I'd always be interested in knowing good starting games (if any) that are on the Wii U Virtual Console eShop.

I heard Fire Emblem Sacred Stones or whatever it's called was a good game to start with, but I'm curious for the other series as well.

Thanks in advance.

Super Metroid and Sacred Stones are good starts. As for Starfox, if you can find a copy of 64 or the 3DS version of it I would go for that. The only SF game on the VC is Command, and I haven't played so maybe read up on it if you're interested in that.

F-Zero: Avoid the GBA F-Zero games, they're pretty eh. The original F-Zero for SNES is pretty good, just be prepared as the games are all fairly difficult.

Star Fox: You can buy Star Fox 64 of the Wii mode's shop channel, which is by far the best Star Fox game. I played Command a long time ago and thought it wasn't too bad, but definitely try 64 before the others.

Fire Emblem: Both Sacred Stones and FE7 (just called Fire Emblem) are solid entries, you can go with either really. There's also Shadow Dragon on the DS but that isn't quite as good.

Metroid: Super Metroid is great and all but I'd recommend Metroid: Zero Mission. It's a remake of the original Metroid but surpasses it completely. I picked it up a couple of weeks ago and its quickly become my favourite Metroid game. It's also quite short (about 8-10 hours long) so it'll give you a taster of how the 2D metroid games play. Zero Mission, Super Metroid and Fusion are all fantastic either way.

^ Ah, forgot about the Wii shop channel. I'm guessing since it's a N64 game, you need one of those classic controllers, correct? I only have the GamePad and Wii remote + nunchuk. I remember needing it when I purchased Majora's Mask on the Wii a while ago. I really need to get one of those otherwise.

Ah that's unfortunate, if you can manage to get your hands on a Classic Controller for cheap its highly worthwhile, since you'll then have access the Wii Shop Channel's more expansive library for NES/SNES/N64 titles.

^ Can you use the Wii Classic "Pro" Controller? Or does it only work with the original classic controller?

Super Metroid on the Gamepad with re-mapped controls is excellent. And while all four of the series you mention are great, you've got to play Super Metroid. I don't even say this through nostalgia goggles, I just played it for the first time two years ago. It lives up to the legacy it's received.
