I did. Lol JK I don't really know, but I maybe think it's because of the Smash community?? I know it's a bit of a stretch, but in Smash when you use the Home-Run bat and get a KO with it it makes a "PING!" noise, and they started using the term for a critical KO. I think that maybe the term kind of bubbled over into ACNL? Probably not, though, it's probably something way simpler like just the noise they make. XD
Sell your soul?
Forrrr Nook Points?
Well, pinging was (and still is) originally sending packets of data and recording how long it takes the computer to respond (gosh, I hope I explained that properly. Even though I like to program, I'm pretty bad with computer science).
This, over time, evolved into "hey, ping me!" Taking a wild guess here, this is supposed to serve as, 'Hey, notify me and see how long it takes to respond!'/'Hey, notify me and I'll respond!' (you'll see that use a lot in chat rooms).
So in AC, it's the villager's way of going, 'Hey, ping the mayor and see if they respond!'
Unless the term is used for something else in the AC community. In that case, I'm probably half wrong!
Why is it called New Leaf, if the leaf still has a hole in it?
