The current site rules don't allow negative feedback for wifi sessions that have not occurred. This means someone can arrange a trade with me, FCR, then bail, with no repercussions whatsoever.

This has happened to me twice in the past week. Both times I wasted a considerable amount of time waiting around for these people who said they would be opening their gates shortly but never did. Both times I tried to be accommodating by meeting them at a later point. Alas, it proved a further waste of time.

I can't imagine I'm the only one frustrated by such behavior in trades on the site. Posts on the site are not editable after 60 minutes or so, which means there is evidence that the trades were arranged. I feel that with proper evidence, we should be able to leave negative feedback for these occurrences.

While I see where you're coming from, the wifi rating system should only be used after a wifi session happens, according to the site rules. So it doesn't make much sense to be able to leave feedback if you didn't even wifi.

If they didn't open their gates it's their problem. No feedback shall be given whatsoever (since there wasn't a wifi session). At least that's how I see it.

Yes, that's why I'm proposing a change to the rules. I understand the current wording of the rules.

I understand your frustration in that kind of situation, but the WiFi rating system is a tool that tells other users how actual playtime sessions with someone went (behavior, what their town is like, etc.). I don't think someone looking for a WiFi play session form the WiFi lobby or elsewhere isn't going to value the input of someone who didn't play with the user. I also feel like there will be a lot more disputes over unfair ratings in this sort of situation, and it may be better to discuss with the user in a PT than to leave them a negative rating.

Instead, what about covering this in the rules? If a person makes a thread on the Trading board and then doesn't show an active interest in actually trading, it could be considered spam for wasting peoples' time.

This will be addressed if the Trading Post is ever updated for newer games.

The issue is that trades and wifi are two different things.

The trading post is set up to do exactly that.  If someone never send the item, you can give them negative feedback.  The wifi system is designed to rate your experiences with wifing with someone, so you can't rate them until you wifi with them.  For now, the trading post only works for AC:GC, although that will eventually be changed.

Even in that case, I think that deserves a neutral.  I use ebay, which has a similar system.  If a seller ends up not selling the item (due to it being out of stock, or lost, or whatever), it is almost always neutral.  The only time it is a negative is if the seller didn't like the final selling price, so he is intentionally not shipping.  I'd think AC should be the same.  Yes, it is annoying, but not worthy of a negative.  If the same person does it to you multiple times, then that sounds more than fair.

Also, when you look back at the original AC, you lost the item when you got a code for it.  A negative is justified for that.  Now, you don't really lose anything, you just become slightly annoyed.

Yankee, I suppose this means I'm hoping the site would update the trading post. I saw prshack's post though that it will be updated just for future games... I can see how people are pointing out the difference between wifi sessions and trades.

I can see how kids or high schoolers playing this game won't really be miffed if people waste hours of their time. However, for working adults, it really is a PITA. It also makes the site aggravating. I have quit the game for lengths of time because of this issue; a game, and related activities, are supposed to be fun, not anger-inducing.

Yankee, I understand your analogy to eBay, but I don't think it's the same thing. On eBay, you don't have to physically wait there for the item. You don't have to open your gate, or wait for someone to open theirs, and just sit there with your 3DS on, waiting indefinitely. You could argue that you could multitask, but research shows that when we multitask, we're not efficient. Our attention is too divided. I can try to work on schoolwork or do another task, but every few minutes, I have to check back to see the gate status.

On eBay, you place your order, and the USPS/FedEx/UPS deals with it. If the seller does cancel the sale, it sucks that you've just lost a day in terms of shipment time -- especially if you needed the item for a trip or something of that sort -- but it hasn't been a literal time suck. So, I don't think they're synonymous.

Beyond that, I will recognize and admit that I have deep-rooted issues with dishonest people. Committing to a trade, and then bailing, is a form of dishonesty, and disrespect, in my values system. I understand if people's electricity goes out or wireless fails or whatever; those people come back and send a PT explaining it, apologize, and rearrange. No, I'm talking about the people who just screw over others because of their own whims. I can't imagine I'm the only person who takes issue with such forms of dishonesty.

I understand as I've had this happen to me many times----

but then later on I've been the one to delay a trade for personal reasons.

I think it depends on respect. If someone does that with no pm, apology or explanation---you feel stood up & that your time is taken for granted.

I had that happen & became upset & frustrated---but most of the time the person had a very good reason & were no able to communicate that at the time.

A polite person did that--but she apologized & we later wi-fied and she was worth the wait--she was the sweetest lady & just had a problem come up in real life.

I'm glad I didn't give her negative wi-fi in my frustration---otherwise I would have lost a good friend.

Similarly I was "late" for a sale today. I never gave an exact time---but I gave an approximate time & I wasn't able to log on even around that. I felt horrible and apologized in that thread.

But in general I'm a reliable person who doesn't like to let people down--and I would let them know & reschedule.

But if they don't show up or even bother---I just note the user name & don't trade with them in future. But I don't give negative wi-fi because they didn't come into my town & do something serious like wreck up the place.
