As of May 20, 2014, Nintendo WFC has been discontinued.
This means New Leaf, which uses Nintendo Network servers along with 3DS and Wii U games, is sadly the only Animal Crossing title you can play online. You can no longer go to other people's towns in ACCF or ACWW via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, which is disappointing but unfortunately true.
There seems to be some confusion lately over this, as some members come back to ACC and want to play ACCF with others and aren't notified of the Wifi discontinuation. Hopefully this will clear up any confusion when Copper tells you you can't connect.

Don't worry rebecca. Animal crossing City folk was on for 6 years and wild world for 9 before the wifi was taken off their even older systems. It will be awhile before new leaf is off

Yeah. I know that Nintendo Wi-Fi is discontinued. When I got ACCF in February 2015, I didn't even know that Nintendo Wi-Fi was discontinued. So I play ACCF offline.

Video games are fun!
There is this thing called MiFi or something of the sorts, it can let you play with other users who have it on their Wii, but I've never personally used it.
