Really surprised there hasn't been a thread for this. Anyway, this is a place where you can talk about everything MH4U related such as monster strategies, armour, weapons and so on, form guilds or hunting parties, request for help with missions etc etc. Doesn't have to be specifically about MH4U either, can talk about older monster hunter games as well. If there's enough interest I'll form a Monster Hunter PT, unless there's already a cult MH PT I'm not aware of.

Currently I'm on HR6/9* caravan, my main weapon is the insect glaive and my alt. weapon is the charge blade. The last few days I've been grinding for Seregios gear which is annoying since, at least at my current level, I can't target him in guild quests specifically. If anyone wants to join me in farming the sonic DLC quest for seregios gear they're more than welcome to.

There have been threads on MonHun. I also had one for a while. But I can't helm threads, I leave them all to die. Unintentionally, it just happens.

I just finished the Caravan's main storyline with the Kushala over this past weekend. I was on the Frenzied Deviljho for months, but I dropped the game due to other games and being busier than before. I really liked the cutscenes, despite them looking goofy in-engine.

Oh Monster Hunter in 4th gen. If only you weren't about reintroducing old problems, introducing crappy maps, and locking monsters behind DLC that have no reason whatsoever to be locked behind DLC. Only then could I call you a good game.

I'm HR...Something in 4G and HR...I don't care in 4U, both at end game G Rank. Really don't have the desire to play anymore, as end game is either grinding mindlessly on Guild Quests or just simply waiting on monsters to actually be released.

In the meantime, I've been playing Portable 3rd again! If only Monster Hunter stayed this good!

Capcom, please don't screw MHX up.

Hello!

New to the Monster Hunter series! Do you guys know of any YT or websites that could help me out? I know the game is complicated so I don't want all of you to have to try and explain things!

Hey there, for starting out with Monster Hunter I would reccomend this guy's tutorial to MH. Although the tutorial is for the previous MH game, a lot of the basics carry through to MH4U, so you'll only be missing out on a few new things, which are explained in the game anyways. The game is pretty good at introducing new elements at a slow pace, so although it does get quite complicated, you'll be spoon fed the info giving you time to learn and adapt. Best of luck hunting!

GaijinHunter on Youtube (and he has a tumbler) has some really great guides focused on 4U. I would recommend his channel over anything else.

In my completely unbiased opinion, you can't go wrong with the Hammer.
In any of the games.
Ever.

Bash heads in, deal massive damage in opportunistic strikes, and stun them for seconds at a time with enough head smashing. What's not to love?

"I will look into both! I am trying to figure out what weapon would be best for me at the moment."
If it helps, after beating HR1 (which is literally 2/3 super easy quests), you unlock missions where you can fight the Great Jaggi - the easiest monster in the game - with every weapon. I used that to determine what weapons I'd use for the rest of the game. You can switch between weapons at any time though, don't worry about committing to a weapon very early on in the game.

I've always wondered, is there an advantage reward-wise to using the hammer over cutting tools? As far as I know you can't use impact weapons for unique carves like you can with cutting weapons for monster tails.

...It's actually a disadvantage when it comes to rewards but I love my Hammer so I don't care. :L

Ah fair enough, I liked using the Hammer in MHTri, but I just can't resist that bone crunching sound when you snap off that tail.

Caravan Quests from 1-Star all the way to 9-Star are done. 10-Star is done with everything I have at the moment, but more quests will be unlocked when I proceed further into G-Rank.

I had more trouble fighting the Tigerstripe Zamtrios than I did doing the Caravaneer's Challenge (which consists of a Zinogre that goes frenzied at a certain damage threshold paired with an angry Rajang, and once those two are finished you're given a Shagaru Magala). I didn't know why I was having so much trouble with it until I got legitimately wombo-combo'd. Then I realized that he just has a dumb moveset that covers too much area for where he spawns.

I can now safely say I hate both Zamtrios.

If anyone can, I would like you hunters to judge my armor set build. I am currently in G rank and I loved to use heavy bowgun. As a hunter, I tired stray away from popular armor sets such as seregios, star knight, and grand mustu doate (a crouching fire speciality.) I felt that visiting online gathering halls- finding two to three hunters using the same armor sets lose the sense of exploring different armor set possibilities for a viable play. I have nothing against hunters using them, but I am a total hispter So I end up building a full Miralis (gunner) set with the Azure Buster.

Skills active are:
Attack Up (L)
Latent Power +2
Evasion +2
Rock Steady
Evade Extender
Health -10

Status:
Attack 583 (Limiter removed, attack hone, and carrying powercharm)
Defense 413 (upgraded each piece of armor by 5 times and carrying armor charm)
Mainly resistent to fire by 25 points.

As one more note, I chosen the heavy bowgun, azure buster, for its affinity 20% to support latent power +2.
Its three slots for decoration. And its ammo compatibility, particularly water s and freeze s, as it seems to be common weakness to dragons. Do anyone think this is a viable armor set build for G rank? Or maybe I am not getting enough attack, defense, utility, etc?

So that Monster Hunter X, eh? Lookin' pretty tight so far!

Playing the demo right now. On the regular 3DS, it runs like complete butt, with frame rate constantly dipping, even more so when the new flashy effects that seem to be stapled onto everything kick in. Also, looking at pretty much any source of water also dips the frame rate as well, so that's fun. Game also looks like there's a gray filter over everything, so everything looks rather bleak and dull, even colorful areas like the Misty Peaks.

I'm getting a Japanese New 3DS not too long from now (because my current one's Control Pad decided to break in half for apparently no reason), so hopefully that remedies all those problems. Probably will! Seeing as 4U ran like butt on a regular 3DS, and smooth as butter on a New 3DS.

Let's talk about The Hunter Styles and Hunter Arts and all that! Pretty impressed with Guild style and Striker Style, as they've come to be known as. Well, I'm impressed because Guild is pretty much what its always been, save a few new tweaks and attack changes, whereas Striker is a more simplified approach, reverting back to similar, stiffer movements of previous generations. Which I actually really like! On most weapons, anyways. Like Lance for instance, its final jab is this awful, delayed, though multi-hitting attack that's slow as molasses, but Striker gives it its ol' third poke back prim and proper.

Aerial and Bushido, the other two styles, are pretty unimpressive as far as I'm concerned. Aerial does a lot of to take away from you, and gives you a jumping move instead of a roll forward, and for weapons that have a back-hop, well that goes too...Yeah. I mean, its pretty handy for gunner weapons, to jump over a monster and blast them in the back, but I didn't really find it necessary. Bushido consists of using counters, usually through perfect evading or perfect guarding, usually with unique attacks, but it seems kind of...Unnecessary. Why not evade or guard on my own terms, and then counter on my own terms? The idea sounds neat on paper, but doesn't amount to much in practice.

But let's now look at the areas available in the demo! Ancient Forest is pretty darn good. Its a largely flat area (thank goodness) with small rises in elevation, usually just knee high ledges (also thank goodness). As someone who openly hated the amount of elevation in 4/4U, I can say this is a welcoming revelation! ...Just a shame that pretty much all the 4th gen maps are returning. Yes, even the Volcanic Hollow.

Speaking of the terrible 4th gen maps, next area available is the 4th Gen Arena! Awesome, lovely to see probably the worst arena map in the series in the demo. I guess breaking the news early is a good thing? Its all intact, too, one side being acceptable, the other being an obnoxious, nearly 45 degree angle with ugly ridges protruding out of it, getting in your way and causing monsters to clip through the terrain. But with news of the pretty alright Slaygrounds and the Moat Arena from Freedom Unite returning, I hope this one isn't revisited too often.
Also, Mr. Hoot Hoot is pretty freakin' annoying! His confusing is very annoying, but not for the reasons you'd expect. If you are confused, your controls are reversed (typical fare, at least it isn't punching yourself in the face a la Pokemon), and you can eat a Bitterbug to get back to your senses. BUT for whatever reason, the folks on the Monster Hunter team decided that your cats need to launch you to get you out of confusion. So if you are confused pretty often throughout the fight, expect to be sent flying more often than a team full of Gunlance users.

And last, but definitely not least, the Misty Peaks, where you fight Nargacuga in the Demo. I give full applause to Capcom not tampering with this map in amost any way, but they do introduce a few ledges to leap off of. But they're often out of the way, non intrusive, and leagues better than anything 4th Gen gave us. It makes me wonderfully excited to see the likes of the Forest and Hills or Swamp (two other returning maps, to name just a couple) and discover how they've not royally screwed them up, because it seems like someone with a brain was actually in charge of map design, and decided not to completely butcher the returning areas (I'm looking at you, Dunes, you abomination of a first gen map).

As for Palicoes, not much different about them, although they decided to introduce us a couple of new abilities they have, plus the ability to play as them! Playing as them is a little awkward, though it feels intentional, and while it takes a bit of getting used to, I'm warming up to it pretty quick. Wish they gave us a little more variety in terms of what they can do in the demo, because you only get one option and its preset abilties as far as I know.  As for the AI partners, usual fare. Although they do have a pretty new ability compared to older version of them, one where they give you infinite stamina by bringing out the pom-poms and cheering you on. All fine and dandy, except for one thing. The whole time they do it, they make this whistle sound. Like, the whole time. Its ear-wrenching. Every time it happens, I feel forced to turn the sound down or completely off just to avoid having my ears bleed. Definitely an ability I don't want on my personal Felynes.

So that's a lengthy rundown on the Demo! Seeing the new area and a returning area not distorted by the 4th Gen map design, I'm really excited to get my hands on MHX when its released after Thanksgiving.
