I feel we should have a beginners tutorial.

Why? To avoid wasting time.
I personally am tired of looking through threads only to find out they should have been locked because they are NOT relevant.
Tired of multiple PT's from people who don't know how to use them yet.
etc. I am sure most of you feel the same way.

I would LOVE to see a tutorial on how to use the site for new people, or even general people (Optional though for older members)
Showing: How to lock a thread, change the title of the thread, find PT's, find previously posted on boards, show how we can automatically flag any thread we comment on. flagging/unflagging, adding a code (Which as we all remember took quite a bit of effort to find at first, ACNL isn't even listed as its self),

Other not so common but still happenings:
People rating without wifi'ing with someone (Its wrong).
How to click a profile and view it.

How to post that you would like some visitors, maybe even a visiting board?
As well as to let new people know that sending random 's most people who have played longer do not accept because of bad experience having nothing to do with them other than they did not to try to contact the user first.

If we did get a tutorial I would like to see that it stay up in a bubble at the top for at least 5-10 consecutive closes when people load up. At the last few clicks of close telling us where to find it in case we change our mind. (Number depending on new vs not new member)

Something that would read "Enhance your experience of ACNL with a few click's leading to all our site has to offer with, buying, selling, trading animals, giveaways, special shops free villagers etc"

Also if even after the tutorial has been done, if it could remain for a bit longer up with a repeat in case they forget that would be nice. There is so much to learn. Or even a whole board of "Lets get started" with instructions and pictures of everything as well with SUPER easy access would be acceptable. That way certain parts can be visited multiple times in case its needed.

It isn't exactly a tutorial, but ACC does have the Scout adoption program if you're aware of it, where you basically get paired with a Scout who is supposed to answer any questions that you may have. However, this is only available as a new member, so it might not be applicable to everyone who actually wishes to have help, but in those cases the site support boards generally have very fast response times. So, on that basis I think it's a little unnecessary, however I see where you're coming from as it might be annoying to have to post a whole new thread for every simple matter, but in the end of the day there isn't actually that much to learn, and if you're an active member you tend to pick it up quite fast anyway.

Also, in regards to your comment about continually receiving messages from new people who use them incorrectly, I guess that it could be useful if it were somehow a little more obvious, as I have seen a number of people, say, make a new thread when they wish to reply, but then I guess if they're someone you wish to talk to you could simply tell them and get them to reply normally, and if not ask them to stop sending them and remove, and if they deliberately continue, then you could probably report them under the harassment rule.

We're currently working on possibly developing a better FAQ section to help out people, but for the time being, the Scout program works great. =)

Yes, the Scout program is wonderful but I can see where jamieejamiee is coming from on at least one point. If you do not use the Trading Boards you may not be as aware of the locking threads problem.

For example, there are 13 pages of threads on the Item Trading Board and at least 10 pages of those should have been locked. On the Villager Trading Board there are 6 pages of threads and at least 4 pages  of those threads should have been locked.

When you are trying to find an item or a villager is extremely annoying to have to read through thread after thread of auctions that are over but have not been locked. I don't know exactly how we need to get this info to the members but it would make things a lot more pleasant for people who use those boards.

^ Perhaps there is a way to make threads on a certain board archive a lot quicker? Surely that would solve the problem as if a person wants the trade to be kept alive, they can just post some new content to keep it going, whereas if they just forget to lock it, it could just automatically archive after say, ten days or instead of thirty and the boards wouldn't be as cluttered., is that what you mean? As if that would e possible, surely that would be the most logical solution. Or maybe people mistakenly post and in so doing prevent a thread from archiving? In which case, you could have it so when the owner of a thread posts a new post, there could be some subtle text somewhere just saying "remember to lock this thread when you're done" or something like that, which might have some effective results but may not be feasible. If it was and reduced them by even a bit, better then nothing, even if it was something like twenty percent. I think subtle forms of rule inforcement such as this can make quite a difference, so I think it could be worth a try.

No, actually archiving faster wouldn't help. The problem is auctions that are over and are still on the first, second or even third page. If you are looking for current auctions, you have to look through auctions which ended 5 or 10 hours ago, yesterday - that type of time span. So even archiving at 10 days is not going to solve the problem I'm speaking about.

It can be rather time consuming to have to read through threads when every few ones the auction is already over. I've been on the Villager Trading Board at times when every other or every third auction is over.

I'm not really talking about the boards being cluttered per se, that's really not the problem I'm talking about. I was just using the number of pages to illustrate how many people are not locking their threads. If they were locking their auctions we wouldn't have so many pages still open.

^ Okay. I understand with that. But what about a subtle reminder sort out thing? People tend to think differently when something is put out in front of them as a reminder or a rule when they do something, and as I said, even if it was only partially effective it would still be something.

" if you're an active member you tend to pick it up quite fast anyway."
Yes, but not everyone is.  Or cares to look around and explore everything as some people do. To me locking, changing the title, hunting down where private threads where came naturally. Common sense is not very common for anything.

With sending many PT's for one thing yes I have told them how to get to older PT's and such but its not my job. It would be easier to just have them learn from the beginning rather than explain that how to get FRC up if you interact with so many people and everything else possible. I ranted a bit because its always something. Not that I mind helping others, I could just use my time better with helping with matters that are actually about the game like helping others find items, villagers etc. Even that is so spammed up that after maybe 5 thread that should be locked I stop looking in that board and move to the next when I don't have a lot of time.

Sadly suggesting to lock the thread nicely will get you reported for backseat moderating. So last time I got fed up running into a thread after thread that was supposed to be locked I reported as other, Asked how I should go about the annoying situation, made my suggestion and was told I should post it here. So I have.

I feel maybe even a welcome comity or welcome PT showing how to use the site etc would help reduce the spam around everywhere, abuse of the wifi system and how to navigate around the site considering the range of ages on the site. A PT even would be great, one that shows up in red for the first while after they join for easy finds I would love.

Not everyone will know what the means or that you can click it upon joining a new site. I had no idea I could click it even until one day I clicked some other random one by mistake. I then found out what all of the shields meant.

(I hope that made sense, I've got a nasty head ache from my cold atm)
