I may be buying a new Nintendo console soon, after soon playing AC:NL on a borrowed 3DS for a few weeks to see if it is good enough for me to buy my own console.

My question is, if I was buying a new console, which would you guys recommend? Here are my options:

Nintendo 3DS - £89
Nintendo 3DS XL- £140
New Nintendo 3DS - £150

I'm really interested in whether the larger screen is particularly beneficial or not when playing AC, if the 3DS XL seems a better option I may consider spending the extra £10 to get the 'new' console.

I would recommend either the Nintendo 3DS or the New Nintendo 3DS. The Nintendo 3DS XL isn't a very good deal considering you could get next gen for only ten euros more.

I would personally purchase the New Nintendo 3DS, but if its going to create a huge hole in your wallet or you don't anticipate using some of its unique features, you could always go for the original.

I'd go with either the original or the New.

I'm only really planning on playing AC on it, so yes the standard 3DS does look like the better deal.

If ACNL is the only 3DS game you plan on playing, you should just pickup a regular 3DS or a 2DS. However, if you plan on playing many 3DS games, i'd recommend the New 3DS or the New 3DS XL. There is also Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer coming soon, and if you are interested in it, the New 3DS might be a better investment, as the game heavily requires the amiibo cards and the New 3DS has the NFC touchpoint built-in to the system.

Awesome. It will be awesome.

Actually, an AC spinoff title that focuses on designing houses for villagers. Price-wise, idk.

Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer is a spin-off where you design different villagers' homes and other facilities. You'll basically need to build-up a town by designing the different facilities/homes. You'll need to scan the Animal Crossing amiibo cards into the game, and you'll get the villager who's card you scanned. You will need to design their home based off what they want. If you want to see some gameplay of it, here are some links to some videos of the game: Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer E3 2015 Trailer Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer @ Nintendo Treehouse Live E3

I recommend that you watch the treehouse live footage. From their gameplay, the game actually looks like it would be really fun to play. I'm still against the fact that we need the cards to keep adding more villagers, and i'm still not entirely sure what you'd do other than just designing homes (and schools, hospitals, etc.), though. The game will cost $40 (i'm not sure what it is in UK pounds) but also comes with an amiibo card and (I think) an NFC reader/writer. I've heard some people say that it will come with the NFC reader/writer, but based on retailers' websites, it may not (it's still not confirmed).
