As many of you probably know by now, Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival has been shown off and coupled with the new Animal Crossing amiibo we've seen.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm kind of disappointed that we're getting a second spin off rather than a sequel to New Leaf.

So is Nintendo building up to something, and using these spin off titles to draw in a larger demographic? Or do you think all this publicity will flop as we end up with an 'upgrade' to New Leaf similarly to as City Folk was to Wild World. - Discuss!

Yep, it's either gonna be HUGE or just an upgrade like CF was to WW.

I think the only good games in the series are (and will be until we get a sneak peek at Wii U) GC, WW, NL and HHD. I mean I LIKED City Folk, but it didn't pass the test for "new experience" as it was so similar to Wild World.

I would've rathered nothing honestly. I'm already really against amiibo, and having a game that seems to depend soley of them is not okay to me, especially considering all the issues with amiibo since the start.

I don't know about these even getting additional people to get into animal crossing. I feel like the only people that will be interested in the amiibo festival one is people who already love the series. Although, I could see the happy home decorating game getting some new people though.

At the moment I don't intend to play either. I like that animal crossing is getting more attention from Nintendo, but I feel like these games are just meant to sell additional stuff, amiibo and those amiino cards.

I'm against Amiibo myself but I really want HHD.

That's going to be the last AC game I get until AC U comes out

I'm hearing a lot of hate toward the amiibo craze, especially from the states. In Europe we don't seem to have this much of a problem regarding demand, but the prices vary based on this illusion of 'Rarity' generated very likely by the situation in the states.

I agree with Nuraya, that it does appear to depend on amiibo to be fully enjoyable but so far very little is known about this game, and the cheaper card forms of amiibo may very likely also be compatible. However, the game as a whole looked incredibly luck based and appeared to have very little immersion as far as game play goes as we only see characters rolling a dice and moving spaces.

There is also a larger preference for Animal Crossing on portable platforms- I saw some good pints made on anther thread regarding convenience. So maybe the plan is to make Animal Crossing a game for the casual gamer on the more casual portable market?

New leaf has done a fantastic job of keeping me interested, as this time around I've been playing regularly for over 2 years as opposed to the year and a bit I played Wild World and City Folk.

The only games I actually liked are GC and NL. Those are the only two that got me really addicted. GC and NL keep me HOOKED while the other two are: Oh OK.

The only original games released so far are GC, WW, and NL. City Folk was Wild World with a city and updated graphics.

Funny you should mention GC, I've just put an order in for the game recently as my brother lent my original copy to a friend and then lost it about 4 months after I got it. So there's a HUGE gap in my knowledge where the Animal Crossing origins should be. I'm looking forward to getting back to basics.

Honestly, I hope if they do another AC game that it would be for the 3DS or new 3DS. I spent 2 years trying to decide if a 2DS was even worth it for NL, which it was, but I am not really into the idea of the Wii U. I got WW for my first DS and well have had 1 model from every DS series so to me, the DS family is my preferred choice for another AC. I do own CF and a Wii but I rarely play it as the Grasswear was a BIG annoyance to me.

Happy Home Designer, on the other hand, sounds like a great addition to the AC family! I think a mini game like this has been long over due and will for sure be a must have for me!

I only got NL over a year and a half ago so to me, it is just wayy too soon to be releasing a new full game, in my opinion.

I'm with doggirl331 on this one, I'm not so sure how I feel about having to get a Wii U, simply for this new game, which would require amiibos anyway.

I loved CityFolk, truthfully, but the one thing I really hated was the disappearing grass deal we had to deal with. Wild World was portable, easy to manage, which is why I'm a huge fan of New Leaf, similarly to Wild World was.

Wii Us.. eh.. you don't see many people lugging those things around.

I haven't had any experience with AC:GC, so I can't offer any input there, but from what I've heard it's such a great game.. I'm glad they re-introduced a few things like they did with GC and the train station, it gives it a nice dash of nostalgia.

tl;dr - I'll see how this new thing goes before I run out and buy amiibos to go with a Wii U that I don't have. Seems like a lot of extra things to buy for a spin-off of AC clashed with Mario Party.

I admitted to myself that I would buy a WiiU if a game for Animal Crossing was ever released on it, but I definitely wasn't expecting a spinoff to ever occur. It was probably created just so that they can earn some more cash from the amiibo hype while they develop an actual addition to the animal crossing series that we all know and love. Keeping my fingers crossed that an announcement will be made this year..

Why would you not be thankful for a Wii U? Also, AC WII U HAS TO be on Wii U AC doesn't work on Handhelds! It works better on consoles for me.

Nintendo's YouTube channel now has a Nintendo Treehouse gameplay video of Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival for the Wii U.  It is a board game in which your chosen amiibo rolls the dice and makes moves to go through an Animal Crossing day.  Ultimately you play enough rounds to complete a month in game time.  As you move through the game you see moments of your amiibo interacting with other villagers and characters plus earning or losing Bells and Happy Points.  At the end of a month the amiibo with the most Happy Points wins (Bells earned can be converted to Happy Points).  ACAF is seasonal in that if you play the game during the winter you will see winter activities.

*There is also a connection with Happy Home Designer in that you can invite your villagers (and their newly designed homes) from that game to live in ACAF.  No info on how that works yet.

*Joan and her turnips will appear, and you can earn more Bells that way.  If you purchase turnips the game board will show you different turnip prices that you might land on as you move around the board.  You can decide to take advantage of it or not.

*Crazy Redd shows up to sell you special cards that can give you advantages in the game.

*Katrina will give you fortunes that may affect your progress--positive or negative.

*Lol, apparently K.K. Slider in the game wears a guitar case strapped around him so that he will be able to throw the dice and move around the game board without his guitar in hand--and also to appear more "dressed."  Otherwise K.K. would look quite natural!    His actual amiibo will have him sitting in his usual position as he plays his guitar.

*Apparentlly there is word going around that there will be other future game modes that will be added later--and that the game itself may be a free download.  Will have to look around for more info on this.  Of course it means that the amiibos are essential and hopefully there will be enough to go around when the game is released.

As always, the AC graphics in the game are very cute and charming.  Be sure to check out the video to get a better idea of how it works.  I don't own a Wii U and can't afford it, but it will be fun to see more gameplay once the game is released during Holiday 2015.

It doesn't really bother me. I have Wii U (wish I hadn't bought it though) already so I will probably at least rent this game. I like the Mario Party games as they're really fun for playing with family and friends; even those who aren't a gamer can still enjoy them.

I have a feeling it's either going to be a big hit, or a big miss.

But like I said, I am not upset there's not a original AC game coming out anytime soon. I much prefer to play AC on a handheld vs. a console. It's just so much easier picking up my 3DS to play for a half hour or so versus having to go to my room, eject the disc, find the AC disc, replace the 'old' game in to its case, put it back, load up the Wii U, etc. just to play for 30 minutes. So not worth it. lol

ETA:

KorruptedFiles, that was pretty dang rude. How DARE someone gift you a gaming console you didn't want! Sheesh. I wouldn't admit that in public anymore TBH...You should donate it to a local shelter or something similar. There are tons of kids out there that would love to have your 'reject' Wii U.

Does anybody else think that this game looks very ugly visually? As I was watching the trailer and the Nintendo Treehouse Live @ E3 segment for this game, the visuals really, really bother me. The textures look like they were ripped out of City Folk and changed a bit to make it HD and look better, but somehow, they look worse than City Folk. Actually, Animal Crossing Wild World looks much nicer than this game (I'm not saying Wild World was ugly, but in my opinion, it's the worst looking Animal Crossing main series game.). The lighting effects didn't really help either...  The only thing that actually looks visually pleasing is the character models, but they've been done since August 2013 with AC Plaza.

In terms of actual gameplay, this game looks very, very boring. During the Direct, even though I was disappointed that it wasn't the next Animal Crossing, I still thought the game could actually be fun. After the Direct, I watched the trailer again a couple of times, and the game just looked more boring every time I watched it. The treehouse live @ E3 segment didn't help either. Watching that segment was somewhat depressing, to be honest. The game just didn't have much that made it look appealing. What shocks me even more is how Aya Kyogoku is working on this game. How is the director of Animal Crossing New Leaf working on a game like this? ACNL was an excellent entry to the main series that looked beautiful. Amiibo Festival looks very visually ugly and very boring to play.

If this game actually ends up being a free-to-download game that requires the Animal Crossing amiibos, i'll try it out since i'm going to buy the amiibos anyways (They look really awesome!), but if it actually is $60 for the game, 2 amiibos, and 3 amiibo cards, there is no way i'm buying it unless there is a price drop on the game. The amiibos are worth about $25, so the game would cost $35. $35 is WAY too much for a game like this.

Hopefully the other modes Aya Kyogoku teased at that we don't know about will make this game look better.

Utterly disappointed with this. HHD I may get, but this? I don't even own a Wii U, probably won't ever get one. Nothing to justify a purchase. As for graphics? Yeah... Not too appealing and unhappy overall with the characters. It's just Mario Party. But then again I feel like Nintendo, as a company, has failed for the past few years... My 2cents.

IT BETTER HAVE WHITNEY!!! Or at least HHD.
