Has anyone heard how much it'll cost? How much is the base cost, what does it have, and how much game content do you have? What about the cards? How much are those?

Not sure how big of a difference it makes but I have an original 3DS XL, launch date system.

I'm hoping the game comes with the card reader and a starter pack of cards so I don't have to get 5 things to play once.

Seems to be a watered down version of animal crossing.  I'm hoping it's not JUST designing homes. I hope it'll be like a regular animal crossing game, but instead of being mayor, you're a home designer.  But I feel like it's just going to be the designing.

Maybe they'll pull a Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and have it be a reduced price game. I hope so, because I'm not paying full price for this. To be honest, I think this would make a great mobile app, but not a full game, kind of like the way a lot of people feel about Tomodachi Life. Nintendo's been talking about branching off into mobile anyway, so this could have been a great segway.

I'm still gonna buy it.

They're gonna make all the moniez with this game.  You gotta get the card reader and buy all the cards for it AND buy the game.  Imagine if the cards come in little packs like pokemon cards, so you just get a ton of doubles >_> Yeah, they're gonna make a lot of money

I'm really skeptical.
I've always been the first to buy AC games right when they come out but this one I'll have to wait until I see what people think of it.
Just it seems so limited, I agree with what was already said that I hope it's not JUST home designing, that's just not what makes AC special.
And having to buy all the other stuff is just a hassle.

I'm not gonna buy it if it's only about designing homes.  That would be a rather boring game experience if you ask me.

I'm a huge AC fan - I originally bought a 3DS *just* for New Leaf (later I also got smash bros 4) - but I'm not interested in giving Nintendo any money for some watered-down AC spinoff.

I watched the Treehouse gameplay, and I'm disappointed.  It really is nothing more than designing interiors.  It looks like you can't even walk around the map.  As soon as you leave the property you're designing, you go straight back to your office in the city.  What kind of Animal Crossing experience is that?

No fishing?
No bug catching?
No gardening?
No swimming?

You probably don't even have your own home in this game, and I bet they didn't bother to include the in-game clock with season changes and holidays either.

Seriously, what were they thinking?

^^But it's an Animal Crossing spinoff and the purpose of the game is to design homes and other buildings like schools for the villagers.

I, for one, am excited for this game. I love all the new furniture. I just really hope it's not too expensive. I think $20-$25 is a good price if it means having to also buy the amiibo reader and the cards.

I realize it's a spinoff; I even said that in my earlier post.  The problem is that Nintendo is obviously just trying to milk more money out of AC fans with this half-title instead of having those developers dedicated to working on the next full installment, which is what we all want more than any spinoff.  This is typical Nintendo greedy capitalist behavior, and they do this with all their other franchises as well.

For example, Star Fox fans have been waiting over 10 years for another title like Star Fox Adventures, yet Nintendo keeps churning out uninspired sequels that don't look or play any different than the N64 version.

The DS handhelds get umpteen new Zelda games every year while the new open world Zelda console release keeps getting delayed.   Why do we need so many miniature versions of Zelda when those teams could be working on bigger projects?  Same thing with Mario: most people would like to see a new title like Sunshine or Galaxy each year, but instead we get a hundred 2D platformers.

I'm just afraid this could be the beginning of a long line of sloppy AC releases.  Nintendo's business model values quantity over quality, and HHD is just the lastest example of that.  Even looking at the full AC sequels after the GameCube version, they really didn't add THAT many new features, and even took away some of the great ones (like playing NES games).  Nintendo was too busy making so many other games that nobody asked for in order to make a quick buck that their 'flagship' titles also suffered.  Like, in New Leaf, why do our tools still have to take up practically half of our inventory space, THREE games after the original?? And the loading times going into buildings are still absolutely dreadful.  There has been almost no fine-tuning.  These small annoyances could have been addressed if they actually took the time to focus on one good game per franchise each year instead of giving us hundreds of mediocre and flop titles each generation.

The Wii U has been a complete failure compared to past nintendo consoles.  These days, indie developers and small teams of less than 10 people are making better games than Nintendo is, and that's pretty sad considering the amount of money and resources Nintendo has.

I'm just sayin..

Gamestop is listing it as $39.99, so that's a full priced game.  If it's just a part of the normal games, which so far it looks like it is, (just the home designing part) then that seems a bit much, especially since we're going to have to buy the cards for it.

I'm still getting it, but jeeze I'm poor

do that price include the amiibo puck for the old 3ds?.. also there is over 100 cards to collect, and all in blind bags. so its gonna be costly very fast if your depended on the cards for villagers and things to use in the game. its a bit of shame really, because i think the game looks fun...

I think I may stop getting AC games for a while after HHD.

I think GameCube, Wild World, City Folk, New Leaf, and Happy Home Designer are going to be the only quality AC titles for a long time. After this huge line of crappy spin-offs we will hopefully get the Wii U version.

@ achewood: I completely agree with you about these Animal Crossing spin-offs. I feel like Nintendo is beginning to milk the Animal Crossing franchise because of its popularity, and it's become very clear after this E3. After New Leaf's widespread success, Nintendo's been making so many different side things related to Animal Crossing (MK8 DLC, MH4U DLC, etc.), which isn't necessarily bad (the Mario Kart 8 DLC is incredible, in my opinion). Some of them are just weird and out of place, though (Why is Isabelle and Resetti in Monster Hunter?). These are most likely in order to keep Animal Crossing in people's minds, to create more publicity for the series, and to make more money from those who are Animal Crossing fans. To expand on this, HHD and Amiibo Festival were announced and not only are they spin-offs but they require amiibo. I can't just pay $40 for Happy Home Designer. I have to pay even more money in order to get the cards that you use for the game. In order to play Amiibo Festival, you need at least one amiibo. Sure, it will come bundled with 2 amiibo and 3 amiibo cards, but you'd need to buy additional amiibo in order to enjoy more of the game.

By the way, why is Happy Home Designer $40? I did hear that it will apparently come bundled with the NFC reader/writer and 1 amiibo card (only 1 :/), so that would make the price of the game more justifiable. Even with that, I still feel like it is too much for the game. You're literally designing houses and other things like schools and hospitals. I feel like there isn't enough substance to the game. What do you do after you design houses? I completely understand that this is just a spin-off and it's not meant to be an actual Animal Crossing game, but I feel like it's just lacking overall. You design a house and that's it? I can just do that in an actualAnimal Crossing game. Sure, I wouldn't be completely deciding a villager's house, but why would I even care to do that when I can just design my own house?

These announcements worry me about the future of Animal Crossing. With these spin-offs, it feels less like a one-time purchase and more like a pay-to-play game, where content is locked and you need to pay even more money (on top of the cost of the game) in order to continue to enjoy the game (sort of like Skylanders). It sort of feels like they're trying to treat Animal Crossing like something like Pokemon, where they release main games as well as tons of spin-offs and other random DLC. They're releasing too many Animal Crossing games in such a short period of time that aren't of very high quality. I'd much rather have a new, main, high-quality Animal Crossing game every 3 - 5 years than multiple low-quality spin-offs. It just degrades the series as a whole. Plus, where is the next actual Animal Crossing game? It made so much sense for it to be announced today at their Direct. They've teased at it so much in the past months from Kyogoku's Miiverse post to the additional Animal Crossing-related content in other games to the amiibo cards and figures. If it was announced today, it could've possibly released by the end of the year for Japan and sometime next year for the rest of the world in order to fit the usual 3-year Animal Crossing cycle. Also, if Animal Crossing is to release on the Wii U, it has to be by 2016. 2017 seems like it is too late to release a new Animal Crossing, as it will release too close to the NX and will be expected to release on the NX instead.

Happy Home Designer and Amiibo Festival just feel like they were made in order to sell amiibo. Amiibos are already huge successes but Nintendo is trying to find even more ways to sell more amiibo to people, and sadly, Animal Crossing is how they intend to do that. Is it just me or do others feel like half of their E3 was just amiibos? The new Smash amiibos, the Yoshi's Woolly World amiibos, the Chibi Robo amiibo, the 8-bit Mario amiibos, the new Animal Crossing amiibo figures, and the Animal Crossing amiibo cards were all emphasized greatly this E3. If this is the "transformation" that Reggie was talking about, it certainly isn't what I wanted, and this is coming from someone who loves amiibos (I already have 17 and I do love the figures). Is this because of Nintendo's financial issues and the fact that amiibo are basically saving Nintendo from making a loss?

However, even with all of this, I don't think the Wii U is a failure by any means. I truly love my Wii U. I'd much prefer previous Nintendo consoles like the GameCube or the Nintendo 64, to be honest, but the Wii U has some amazing games on it (Smash Bros. Wii U, Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, Pikmin 3, etc.). I do feel like Nintendo is beginning to drop support for it because of the NX, though. Zelda Wii U wasn't even mentioned this E3, which is a sign that it is still a long way to go before its release, an actual Animal Crossing for Wii U wasn't announced, Metroid was pretty much butchered and did not see a new Wii U installment, F-Zero only ever got two MK8 tracks, and we only got Super Mario Maker for Mario? I guess there is also Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem (or whatever they changed the game's name into), but in my opinion, that game looks like it had so much potential that was just wasted. Star Fox, Xenoblade, and Yoshi are awesome, but it still feels like there should have been more.

I completely agree with everything you just said there.

I'd much rather see them come up with a new high-quality AC game that a bunch of terrible spin-offs. Like I mentioned before, I'm not going to get any more Animal Crossing games after Happy Home Designer until the release of Animal Crossing Wii U. It's a waste of money and time to get something I don't even like. Getting all of the spin-offs Nintendo is going to come up with is TOO expensive, and I'd rather pay 40$ for a game worth it's price than 120$ total on a bunch of terrible spin-offs.
