Okay, I admit it. 11-year-old me lied about my age about three years off when I first joined ACC. But now that I am already old enough to handle myself, I want my age to be accurate. So how about letting users change their birthdate? But to prevent any cheats, lies, or trolling, you should only be allowed to change your age ONCE, and then it becomes permanent. Also, a password authentification would be required for it.
We actually do allow users to change their birthdays once, but you have to request the change by sending in a ticket. If your birthdate is incorrect, just click the Report a Problem button on your profile, and then the next to your birthdate.
As for the suggestion, I'm mixed on letting users do it on their own. While it could be more convenient, I think it's helpful having a modmin check over/evaluate it before it gets changed.

During some administration this morning, some threads lower down on this board had to be posted on because they had lightbulbs attached. Posting on those threads dropped this thread to the bottom of the board and so I'm posting here to bring this thread back into the position it was originally.

I feel like allowing users to change their birthdate on their own would encourage people to lie about their age. As much as we dislike COPPA, ACC is required to follow it. I don't know how well the law is enforced (probably not that well considering we didn't have COPPA for many years), but I don't think it would be a good idea to create a system that encourages people to violate it. We didn't intentionally enforce COPPA to keep minors away from the site, we did it to keep from getting shut down/fined.

Sorry, I don't accept random FCRs.
Because of COPPA, wouldn't accidentally setting your age to under 13 cause your account to go into a state of lock-out? Therefore it would probably be impractical for users to reset their birthdays themselves as mistakes do happen. Modmins have the ability to override the lockout because A.) it is not their own account B.) they have the administrative tools to re-change it regardless.
