I'm currently playing Story of Seasons and Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley. I'm wondering whether there are more GGers who are also plying Story of Seasons?

Looking forward to the ability of meeting other players of Story of Seasons, and possibly helping each other out at our farms. The in-game time freezes, which makes it a wonderful way to help each other with the farming chores.

I'm playing Story of Seasons.

I also played The Lost Valley.

I preordered both.

Story of Seasons is so much better.  The Lost Valley has one interesting idea (terraforming), but it isn't really explained well in the game itself.  Also, the idea that you can grow any kind of crop during any season, but it can only be good in its season is strange but it also makes no sense why crops die out after each season changes.  If you can grow corn in winter, why does it die when it becomes spring?  It makes no sense.

Story of Seasons is very much based on A New Beginning (I recognized the engine and there are very few changes between the two if you take a closer look) but this is a good thing because ANB is a good game.  They did update the graphics and god rid of the building the town (literally) feature, both of which were nice.

One thing I don't like in either game is the lack of a Shipping Bin.  LV at least made it so that you can ship goods any day of the week.  I'm sure the countries buying stuff will make it better when more appear, but I can barely ever get anything sold because the Silk Country booth is never open.  Nothing is open when it is raining and the booth is never open.  This is one thing that upsets me very much about SoS.

Thank you for your reply Julie. I'm very much enjoying both games, but agree with the crops dying out after the seasons were restored. It made it hard to adjust after NOT completing restoring the seasons until midway into the second year. It seems like it took forever to get the Blessed fruit.
How far into Lost Valley are you? I'm playing as a boy, prefer that, because it just doesn't make sense for the wife to be expecting a baby and she's doing all of the farming. I'm into year 4 and saw 2 of the cut scenes for Emily to be marrying Paul, my character. I'm able to pick up the special bunny now, so I pick him up at least 10-12 times everyday. I'm not sure how long it takes for him to give the blue feather. I have all the other requirements met for marriage though.

I'm almost finished with my first season in SoS. Not really working on the marriage yet, as the one I want to have my character marry hasn't appeared but once so far. I read on Thonky that she appears sometime with a cut scene.

Would you be interested in visiting each other's towns sometime? I finally unlocked that feature earlier tonight, but haven't tried it yet. I'm a little confused about what they mean by gifts, and what they should be. As I don't have anything of real value yet.

I haven't played LV recently, but when I stopped I was in Summer of my 2nd Year (so actual summer).

In SoS, I'm in Summer of my first year.  I'm going for Raegar because I like him best.  I did finally unlock Cabin Country, so I have other options when it comes to shipping.  Another thing I don't like is that the shops sell out of stuff really easily.  I'm not sure what is up with that, but the seed maker is a lot easier to come by, so it isn't too much of an issue, at least for seeds.

I'm playing on Original Mode because I'm used to HM games.

I currently have 3 countries that I can do business with. Look at your calendar in your house for the dates that they come. I did that and wrote them on paper for a reminder. There are a few days that there is at least 2 of them.
I have the Safari unlocked and it is AWESOME. Highly recommend  it. Yu can do a little mining in the first part of it. The next section will be unlocked after I get enough materials for the carpenter to build  a huge tree. I haven't seen to many wild animals yet.

I have the seed maker and the sewing house.
I have 2 chickens, 1 angora rabbit, 2 sheep, 2 cows, and 1 horse, which is very easy to build a friendship with. He follows me around which is annoying at times. There will soon be a third chicken, after the egg hatches.

Have you played other Harvest Moon games in the past? I've played several for the DS and 3DS. This newest game, by far is the easiest to play.

I did get Cabin Country to appear, but it was frustrating when I had no money, energy, and constant rain/holidays.

Julie check the calendar by your bed for the dates when they appear. Just touch each date in turn to see each one. I jotted down on a sheet of paper the dates, I even looked ahead for the next seasons dates, so that I can prepare for them.

Like other Harvest Moon games, I didn't grow and sell very many crops. This early in the game there wasn't that many choices available.

Later In The game you get a blueprint for a shipping box (don't know if it will allow you to ship items or not) and you will be allowed to open your own store in the trade area to sell your items and you don't even have to stay there to do it, just stop by at night to receive your money.

When you said Spoiler alert, I thought you were talking about ACTUAL SPOILER ALERTEda dying in Winter of Year 1.

This should be optional.  If they wanted it to work, then they should have made it so you get more money shipping to the trade depot, but you didn't have to.

I am in summer 1 day 5 right now. As soon as school gets out I plan on playing it nonstop. Wonderful game!

I'm playing both games as well. I didn't read much of what was posted because I didn't want to see any spoilers, but so far I'm at the point that I've gotten three countries coming to town to trade in Story of The Seasons. I haven't honestly had as much time to play it as I was hoping I would.

There is only one spoiler in Story of Seasons, and I spoiler-tagged it.

So as someone that hasn't played any Harvest Moon games, do you think I could find this fun? I'm debating on buying a copy because I think it looks interesting but I have never played any of the other games.

This is a good game, but the leveling systems can be a bit confusing for first-time players.

It is not nearly as bad as Harvest Moon DS (Cute) in regards to ridiculous leveling.

However, for a first HM game, I would recommend Animal Parade for the Wii over Story of Seasons, just because it is less complicated and gives you much more leeway.

If you do wish for this to be your first HM game, then play in Seedling (easy) mode.  Everything is easier and you lose nothing for it.

BTW, does anyone else think of this game as Harvest Moon: Story of Seasons?  I keep thinking that is the title, but I know it isn't true.

I loved playing Animal Parade on the Wii. I was almost to the point of having my child move from home.

I'm confident that a newbie would understand this version, as the way the plants are watered and the upgraded way the farming is done would not be as hard and discouraging for them. Plus there's no story line to be concerned about like in Animal Parade, which can be quite confusing to unlock things, without the Strategy guide, which I still have.

But the decision to purchase this game is really up to you Traci. I say go for it!  

My first Harvest Moon game was Magical Melody for the Gamecube.  That game had three ranking systems for crops and four ranking systems for animal products.

My second Harvest Moon game was DS Cute.  That game had ranking systems for every little thing and they were really complicated.

ANB and SoS are much easier with their ranking systems, but I'm not a giant fan of them.

I loved the gamecube version but have not played it in years!
I played lost valley, was not much a fan of it. I was trying to unlock some things then found out that I had to wait an entire year for that to be done. It then lost its appeal to me.
I enjoyed ANB a LOT! After getting so far there its hard to play SOS.
For SOS I really dislike the start! Kinda took a break to be honest... I would love to know if it gets better from the start when you cannot do a whole lot. Setting up a full field took a bit too many days of her life. What guides is everyone using? I had no idea Thonky had one! I was using the one I had for ANB, they did all the games. That one wasn't too far along when I got the game at release though.

The Lost Valley is not a real Harvest Moon game.

It was made by the people who used to translate the Harvest Moon games into English.  They held rights over the title, so they tried to cash in on it.

Fogu is a good guide for SoS.  Once you pass the first month, the shipping problem is much better.  After fall of year 1, it is pretty much solved.

I currently have the 5 normal countries to ship to, and am working on unlocking Tropical and Ice countries.

I have been thinking about getting Story of Seasons, but I was not sure if it was going to be any good. I did not hear good things about the last one in this series, so it made me a bit anxious to buy. I may have to pick it up now!

Taylor I believe the Story of Seasons is the easiest Harvest Moon (yeah, I know it doesn't have "Harvest
Moon" in it's title, but it's still a Harvest Moon game in my opinion) that I have played. The system of becoming friends with the town folks and with your future spouse is a lot easier. I haven't given any gifts to most of the town people. The only one was to Veronica when I was trying to do the first tea party, I didn't know how to do it until I read about it on the Fogu website. You need to have enough tea prepare for the number of Vendors you have unlocked, in case any body needed to know this info. At least I found out she likes tea and will accept it.

I'm just started year 4 in the game and have purposed to Joseph's future wife, Agate. You get to pick the type of wedding you want to have rom 3 choices and aren't held to any set day for it to happen, unlike in other HM games I've played.

The ranking system for the crops is pretty easy to do, just make sure you buy the fertilizer from the store every day that it's open. But I'll do this for anybody reading this post.., I'm willing to wifi with anybody on a 1 on 1 basis to gift them some 5 star seeds, or in groups as long as the ones coming give me their friends codes so that no random visitors show up. In other words I would open ONLY for friends on my friends list. I currently have 6 at 5 stars and 3 at 4 stars.
