Welcome to the third High Turnip Prices thread on the ACNL WiFi Lobby Board. Credit goes to
Dalek for running these threads previously, as well as creating the original content for these threads.
The rules:
1. By posting your prices here, you promise not to charge an admission price to come to your town to sell turnips.
If you are requiring a trade of some sort (bells, items, whatever), please create your own thread on this board.1a. Tips are allowed - but it's up to the person who is selling whether or not he or she gives a tip. It's not allowed to require one (see above).
2. If you need help trying to figure out what's happening with the turnip prices in your town, just ask & one of the regular posters will help you answer your questions.
3. Please don't spam the thread with "Can I come over" messages. Instead send a PT and FCR to the person.
4. Posting daily low prices (under 110bpt) is only OK if you are helping with the analysis of pricing trends or asking about the trend in your town.
Please don't post that your price is a low amount & you're looking for someone with better prices - that kind of post may be removed as spam. The best way to avoid a steady decline in your town is to have a wide circle of friends who are also sharing their prices. The more friends you have in your circle, the better your chances are for always having access to a high spike no matter what is happening in your town.
Data collection is now even more important for ACNL turnip prices. It's going to take the community working together to figure out the pricing trends especially as they've changed since ACWW & ACCF.
Since turnips work in mostly the same manner as they do in ACWW, here's a portion of the guide that sunmarsh wrote for ACWW with the help of markwars & myself as well as data from Liquefy (adjusted for changes in New Leaf):
Simply put, every week in ACNL is different for you, and everyone else. Every town has different turnip prices, and their prices are just important as yours are. Each day is split into (uneven) halves. Reese will have a different turnip price for each half-day. The AM price starts at 6AM and lasts through noon (12PM), when she changes to the PM price, which lasts up until closing - even if you are running the night owl ordinance. The chances that your highest weekly price will be in the AM is roughly 50%, so both prices are equally important to check. Just a note, if your schedule leaves you playing at night or in the afternoon, it may be helpful to keep your clock a few hours behind or ahead of the real life time so you can play during an earlier part of the day and perhaps catch the AM price or vice versa. This is called time phasing & as long as you stick to playing the game in the real time manner as everyone else your turnips will be fine.
Time travelling can cause your turnips to spoil prematurely. If you start your game at an earlier time than your last game save, your turnips will spoil. For example, if you save your game at 1PM and then realize you forgot to check the AM price, change the time to 11AM & visit Re-Tail, you will find that your turnips spoiled.
In addition, the "Turnip Table Glitch" that was so useful in both the GameCube & DS versions of the game is not included in the 3DS version of the game. Putting your turnips on tables will not save them from spoiling at Sunday 6AM or if you were to travel back in time.
Travelling forward in time is usually OK, but if you cross the Sunday 6AM line, your turnips will spoil.
Generally speaking, if you are going to time travel, it's best to avoid travelling to a point before your last save if you have turnips. The only time I travel further back is if I've already sold my turnips to Reese. Time Looping your town is helpful to give yourself more time for inviting friends over to sell. You can safely loop time for as long as you need so all of your friends can sell.
Knowing this, if you are going to time travel, use the 3DS clock to do it. If you tell Isabelle to change the time, you will cause the game clock & the 3DS clock to be out of sync. This imbalance has been known to cause people to experience declining & rollercoaster weeks more than usual in previous games. While there hasn't been much research on this in ACNL, it's probably best to stay safe and avoid this possibility.
Turnip prices are very limited in their patterns however, so it is necessary that you be dedicated to data collection. You need as much information as possible when trying to predict results. These patterns in pricing run on a weekly basis and are reset every Sunday at 6AM. It is still possible to make accurate weekly predictions. You first need to know the type of week that youre having. This can be done by recording and analyzing the first few days of turnip pricing in a given week. There are three trends your week can follow.
1. Rollercoaster - the prices go up and down without any predictability of direction or amount. Prices can range anywhere from 30 bells to 199 bells (This is a guess for now as I have records that support rollercoaster prices as high as 180s). If your Monday AM price is higher than your Sunday price from Joan or it is higher than 100 bells, you are likely to experience a rollercoaster week.
2. Steady Decline - The price falls 1 - 9 bells each time & never increases all week. This week is impossible to determine before Thursday PM prices as this week looks exactly like a spiking week with the only difference being that a spiking week will start the spike on Thursday PM if not earlier in the week.
3. Spike - The price falls 1 - 9 bells each time until they start to rise. This rise can start as early as Monday AM (earlier than in previous games), so watching the prices is even more important at the beginning of each week. Normally there will be 3 rises in the price before the highest price (the spike) occurs. Spikes can be one of three types:
3a. Low Spike - the price after the first rise either doesn't go up much or it goes down. The price usually doesn't go over 200, but it is possible for it to get to just under 300. Sell on the 3rd price after the first rise. If the price rise starts on Thursday AM, sell on Friday PM. It is possible for the spike to happen on the 3rd rise as well which means it's possible if the first rise is on Thursday AM then your spike can be on Friday AM. There is also a 5-price low spike that will include two dips in the week - however those are very rare. Bottom Line: If your price is over 180 during a low spike week, that'll be the spike.
3b. Medium Spike - the price rises 3 times in a row. The high price will be somewhere between 300 & 500. Sell on the 2nd price after the rise starts. If the rise starts on Thursday AM, sell on Friday AM.
3c. High Spike - the price rises 3 times in a row. The high price will be at least 500. Sell on the 2nd price after the rise starts. If the rise starts on Thursday AM, sell on Friday AM.
One other great help for analysing your turnip trends is
BlueHairMonkey's Turnip Wizard. The data that I've collected since Week 6 of ACWW as well as my ACCF turnip pricing data is included in his matrix for helping to analyse turnip trends.
