The year is 1895. The place is North America.

The Reformation has not occurred, causing a spike in religious fury and persecution in Europe.

People are being executed for blasphemy, and sinners are also persecuted, which includes everything from non-Christians to those who speak against the Pope.

However, this religious pressure has some side effects on the grand scale.

Anglican England is now at war with Catholic Germany, and France is in a second revolt against the Catholic Church, causing it to be at war with their neighbours.

Those who disagree with the religious persecution in Germany are moving to France to join their second Revolution, or fighting in underground resistance groups within the German Empire.

Britain is now attempting to stem the flow of non-Christians to North America and convert the Native Americans to Christianity, though the non-Christians have armed and informed the Native Americans of the intentions of the British and most of the other European nations, thus creating a strong, more secular resistance to British rule.

Wars are also occuring between Orthodox Russia and its neighbours, including Bhuddist/Confucianist Asia, Muslim Africa and the  Middle East, and the Aborigines in Australia.

And now, whether or not these expansionist and all-consuming empires will survive depends entirely on events in North America. After all, if the British, Russians and Italians lose their holdings in North America, they lose the resources required to sustain their wars.

(Interesting concept, but it might not have been a good idea to stress the religious aspect from the get-go...)

Kane: (in a tavern room, talking to someone in Low German) [Well, that shipment made it in record time. I'm sure the Blackfoot will be pleased.]

"...Kane Schlichting?"

Kane: (turns, his rifle gripped in his firing hand. He speaks rather sarcastically, with a gutteral Prussian accent) Now what could have led you to that conclusion?

"I was told I would find you here, and your response was more than adequate to confirm your identity. Mr. Fugitian wants to see you, sir."

Kane: (speaks in German to the others behind him, then looks back and replies in English) Not unless you take these two.

"I can take them with, of course, sir, but I doubt he'll want them anywhere nearby when he has his words with you."

Kane: So he expects me to turn myself in? (scoffs) He can go kiss my draft horse's (backside) if he thinks that.

"Turn yourself in? For what?" The man chuckles. "No, he told me he's got a... proposition, for you."

Kane: I'd believe it when I see it. Who is he, and who does he work for?

"He can answer those questions better than I can."

Kane: Unless he proves that he wishes no harm to me or my allies, then he can go (screw) himself.

"If he wanted you dead, or behind bars, sir, you would be there already. He is not a man to trifle with."

Kane: And even with my death or capture, American resistance would carry on. Regardless, very well. I will meet him. And if he attempts to shut down my business, we'll see what the Apache do with his body.

"This way, sir." The man turns and walks out.

Kane: (gives the others orders in Low German, and they pack up and follow him)

The man leads him out to what appears to be a very nice cabin... just small enough to still be considered "rustic", but obviously built with more luxurious purposes than survival in mind.

Kane: (once again gives them orders in Low German, and they go to the sides of the house, in case they're needed)

"He's waiting upstairs. First door on the left."

Kane: (flicks on the safety and heads upstairs, ensuring his bayonet is properly fixed)

Victor stood opposite the door, holding a large crystal bottle. "Ah, Mr. Schlichting. I see you got my message. Drink?"

Kane: I have to keep my wits about me. So no drink.

"No matter. Pennyworth fetched you from the tavern, didn't he? My guess is that you've had plenty already."

Kane: A tavern room. We were staying there. Getting drunk is unbecoming of a man-in-arms. Much less the scion of a Prussian military family.
