I'm hoping my copy can make it to me on time too but the postal system at uni is really confusing so I have to hope they get it early enough in the day that it's ready for the collection hours. Otherwise I'll be screwed. But hopefully not. I want the box because I just always want physical copies but yeah, since I'm downloading the DLC anyway it probably doesn't matter too much. Hopefully the DLC isn't too expensive!!

I was trawling some Fantasy Life boards as I munched my dinner and came across news that the UK Nintendo site for Fantasy Life has gone live

If you go to the Add-on Content tab you'll find some information about the dlc that everyone has been wondering about It'll be £7.19 (so somewhere about $11/12 I'd wager in the US? Edit: doh had it wrong at first thanks to Sonnic below for the right calculation), however, there are some interesting things about it. It seems that you can only access the extra content once you've completed the main game /and/ you won't be able to multiplayer with folk if one of you has it but the other doesn't. So it doesn't look like it'll be worth getting the dlc at the start .. rather it would seem you're better off waiting until you get to the point in the game where you want to see the content?

Although it's not mentioned there I did read that in Japan there were also free dlc in terms of furniture and clothes just like we get for Tomodachi and New Leaf as well as some small payable dlc that can do things like give you extra XP, allow you to change features or stat structure So lots of extra add on stuff to get

Eh, £7.19 isn't too bad (around $11) but is on the higher end of my expectations. Pretty much means I'll be paying £35 for the full game as my copy was just under £28 so not ludicrous. If they have a sale on it at launch I'll download it straight away but otherwise I'll wait until I've finished the main story. The not being able to play with people who don't have it thing sounds a bit suspect. Hopefully they just mean the island won't be playable but who knows...

Free DLC is always welcomed! & maybe some more payable depending on what it is/how much it costs.

I would watch a Let's Play but I should have the game in a week so I will try & hold off from spoiling it for myself.

I can't be bothered to look through this thread again, but I thought you were planning on getting the digital as opposed to a physical copy. Can you pre-order digital versions? And there's always pre-paid e-shop cards if it's funding you have a problem with...

Hmmm .. well I had been in a quandary whether to go with digital download or physical cart and in the end pre-ordered from Argos to get the game for £28. Over the last few days I have pretty much concluded that I want the game digitally as it's going to be a favourite I am sure

I was dithering about the extra cost through the eShop (especially as I could get the cart from Argos on or for launch day .. though some people still say they got it posted on release day from Argos so no guarantees ), but had almost decided to bite the bullet just to get the game at midnight and in the form factor I wanted.

However tonight I found through someone's post on GameFAQ's that GAME in the UK were e-mailing out their codes for a digital download of the game and that they too cost just £27.99!! So if anyone wanted to get the digital download but were put off by the price (and are in the UK), check out GAME

Edit: btw the code has been mailed out but according to the guy who posted this, the code doesn't activate yet I am presuming we'll have to wait until midnight on launch day?

Yeah, I'd imagine the codes work when the game goes live on the eShop so most likely midnight on launch day. & with the £7 you saved you can buy the DLC if you want!

It works out just perfectly for getting the dlc and I'll definitely be getting it, I'm just not sure when to get it

I think I'll wait to get the dlc until I find out what most people here on the GGer forums (that are getting this game), do. It'd be too annoying to get over excited and buy the dlc and then get cut out of multi-playing with folks here due to that .. as much as I want a bird companion

When are folks here thinking about getting the expansion dlc?

The DLC doesn't activate until you finish the story apparently so I won't be downloading it until I finish that. I don't have good WiFi connection so multiplayer isn't too much of a factor unless some of my nearby friends get the game.

Doh! I forgot about that, I'm getting too hyped up about getting my ordering all sorted out

ShopTo sent me a receipt today so hopefully they're shipping it tomorrow.

Llewis I'd like to get the DLC as soon as possible. But the wording, like you and Sonnic talked about earlier, how maybe you won't be able to play with those who don't have the DLC, does sound odd. Hope you'll be able to let the rest of us know

Also, since this is a new online game, and we might want to play with others on here, they'd need to add Fantasy Life to the friend code list or what? Is it ok over PT?

Yeah, it's really strange that you said that so long ago but it feels really recent.

3DS games don't have friend codes; it's just one 3DS code & then you can play any game you want with each other. Much more efficient system.

Sonnic: Yep, every autumn I get swamped with games. So far in 2014, I've only picked up Bravely Default, Mario Kart 8 (which was immediately commandeered by my nieces and nephews, as was the Pikmin 3 free promo), Tomodachi Life and last week the new Theatrhythm. And look! Two more new games in as many weeks (Hyrule Warriors and SSB3DS)! And three weeks later we finally catch up with the rest of the gaming world with Fantasy Life! ...Then there's the Black Friday and Christmas crunch...

mejjos: Ooh, good to know! For whatever reason I always thought they staggered on account of time zones. I don't bother with digital versions since I just like having something tangible to hold onto. The idea of being able to get it around 9pm so I'd have a few hours to play before bedtime (who am I kidding, I wouldn't be sleeping) is appealing... Buuuut I've already preordered it. Annnnd I'm planning on saying 'screw you' to my social life that weekend (unless they have Fantasy Life of course). You know... Like I do whenever a new game comes out. And this time my nieces and nephews are NOT coming anywhere near my Wii U!

I'm tempted to order from ShopTo now. I'll likely get FL tomorrow if I do. I haven't decided if I want it or not yet. How similar is this to DQ9?

I never played DQ9 so I can't really say. A lot of people on GameFAQs compare it to Rune Factory but you'd probably have to find someone who's played DQ9 & Fantasy Life if you want a comparison between the two.

Hm. I've never played a Rune Factory game.

I think it seems much more like a Rune Factory but without relationships or farming (though take that with a pinch of salt as I've only played about 5 -10 mins of that on the Wii). I have played Dragon Quest IX and to me that seemed pretty much like a normal RPG with turn based battles so it didn't seem much like Fantasy Life really .. though it's been a while since I played it so there might be similarities I've forgot I know some people have also described the game as a simplified Skyrim too

Maybe check out a you tube video and it should give you a better clue about what the game is like?

Uh... My friend found a new copy of Fantasy Life Link in a local Japanese game store... for $60! It's a miracle finding new popular Japanese games in a store around here for less than $80. So of course he picked it up, and knowing how I'd be, he passed it and his Japanese 3DS to me. Which means he'll be getting my Hyrule Warriors and Wii U for awhile.

First things first, it's Ver.1.0L. Since I've been playing it for the sake of playing it, I'll look into the possibility of updating tomorrow. But I don't expect much because neither of us have a Japanese pre-paid e-shop card (hard to come by in stores) or a Japanese credit card (recommended by a different friend). I've been thinking about the whole different versions cannot connect to each other thing, and I think I know why. Someone mentioned there will be new options for configuring your avatar in the Western release. No idea if this is true, but it makes sense that an avatar with new features cannot interact with older versions.

Also, there is only one save file! Either that search result about multiple save files is incorrect, or one of the later versions had a MASSIVE change!

And in regards to DQ9, there really isn't any similarity (except for configuring your avatar and forage points). In terms of fighting on the field, think Rune Factory, Ys Seven or Secret of Mana. You can also forage for items and catch bugs (like in Harvest Moon). Crafting items are minigames, but I can't think of any comparisons right now.

I started as a miner. I've played nearly 3 hours so far, but a decent chunk of that was configuring my avatar and running around getting used to town. The tutorial is longer than I'd like. Typical blah-blah-blah when you want to get to the action. Fighting is harder than I expected as well.

One save filecie a huge disappointment. I think I might wait for some impressions of the EU release.

Riesz .. definitely look into updating the game through the eShop because I read somewhere that the LINK update is now free for people with the original Fantasy Life game in Japanese. I might have picked it up wrong or the poster may have been talking rubbish, but I'd deffo check it out .. good luck! I hope I don't get your hopes up unnecessarily though

The one save file was updated to three with the LINK expansion and that's the number we get from the UK version since I've seen it on British youtube Let's Plays

That's a big relief. I hate games that restrict you to one save. Dragon's Dogma is a fun game but its one save file limit is a disgrace.
