Hi everyone! I decided to do a different fan fic because I didn't like my other one so much. Hope you enjoy!
Chapter One
The Journey
I walked down the driveway of the house I shared with my 3 older brothers, my parents, and a puppy. Actually, I wouldn't call it a house, it's more like a mansion. I was glad to be leaving it. You see, I am only 16 years old. I got put into an advanced arts university because of my so called 'musical talents'. I used to think it was amazing too, but I am just really good at a lot of musical stuff. I mean sure, I have perfect pitch, can play 17 different instruments like it's human nature, but it is all so NORMAL to me. Anyway, the cab driver asked my name on the phone and thought I was a boy! Leighton can be a girls name too you know. His name was Kapp'n. He is some sort of lizard. Oh, something I forgot to say. The only school that was for musicians like me is in a town with animal residents. So what I have to say is: Thanks, mom for insisting I should go to a special school instead of high school. Well, I have to get on the plane soon. I will write again later.
The ride there was AGONIZING. I read 3 books, wrote and revised 5 songs, and did my nails. To everyone who likes their nails to look nice, a word of advice. DON'T DO YOUR NAILS ON A PLANE! It makes the worst mess you have ever seen, so the stewardess has to come over and yell at you while you have to try and explain that you were just trying to do your nails. Of course, she won't think you're telling the truth. After all, your just some kid. When I finally got to Animal Village, I was directed to the town hall. The clerk looked friendly enough, a pelican with cheery features. I walked up shyly and said almost in a whisper, "Um, ma'm? I am new here in town." "Oh! Hello!" came the bright reply. "You must be Leighton, the new resident! My name is Pelly. I work here at the town hall." I was right, she was pretty nice. "Hello. Do I have to sign anything to become a real resident?" I hoped not, I didn't even have money or anything yet. "Not if you are going to the university, like I was informed. You will, though when you graduate have to sign and pick out a house. If you stay here, that is." Most likely. I thought. I am NOT going back home. No way.

I walked down the hall to my first class. Okay Leighton, deep breaths. I was so nervous about my first day. I walked in expecting the worst. But as I opened my eyes, I feared I was right. Everyone was staring at me like I was and alien who had just landed. I stared back. This isn't what I expected. This wasn't even a university. It was something completely different from what I had expected. But the one bad thing was, this was real.
The dog standing in front of me was brown haired with shiny black eyes. "Are you um, Professor Digby um, sir?" I stammered. "Digby yes, but professor, no." I didn't know what to expect. "I am Mayor Isabelle's brother. I am here to protect her private office. Who are you?" He sounded harsh and cold. "My name is Leighton." I said with more courage that I was feeling. "I am a student at the university." I heard a high, sweet laugh behind me. "Come in dear, come in. I bet my buttons you have some questions you would like to ask." said the same, sweet voice. I walked in quickly, glad to be away from Digby. "I am Mayor Isabelle." said the blonde dog wearing a pink jacked, high heeled shoes, and a purple pencil skirt. She looked like she sounded, but I had half the notion she didn't act like she looked.
I sat in the chair before her desk. "Now dear, ask anything you want." she said in her strange, girlish voice. "What is this place?" was my first question. "Alas, that will take a long time to answer. I shall answer it soon.

"You really want me to explain what this place is?" Isabelle asked questioningly. "Yes, that is my only question." "Oh, well, if that is the only one, I will answer more than your question. It all starts when this place was founded. Tortimer was the mayor and I was just a simple secretary like Pelly is now. No one cared about my job and found me unimportant. Then, an election came. Tortimer was nervous as usual. I decided to run against him. No one wanted to make the old man worry. But I was determined to make myself more respected. I ran against him. I won." she explained all this with a tone of pride in her voice. "To this day, no one has dared run against me, because I ran against Tortimer when no one else had. That, is how this all started. Tortimer had this town underdeveloped! I have made a perfect utopia!" she finished off with meaning and pride dripping in her voice. "Why did you send me here?" was the new question that popped into my brain.
"I will explain that in time." was the only answer I got. "Now Leighton, please get out of my office! I am very busy ruling this town!" I got up as fast as I could and left the university all together. I ran down to the town hall to speak with Pelly. "How do I leave?" the words rushed out of my mouth in my slightly panicked voice. "Dear, you must stay in the town at least a year to be able to leave." "A YEAR!?!?!" I shouted before I could stop myself. This place was bad. I could feel it. I needed to leave now. "Fine. I need a house as far away as possible from any villagers and the town hall." I didn't want to meet any neighbors. I didn't want to be close to Isabelle. "Dear, to get a home, you must see Mr. Tom Nook." Uhoh, that didn't sound good. I shouldn't meet any more people, or I should make it as brief as possible. My thoughts were disturbed by Pelly. "I can call him for you if you'd like. I will tell him the house you want." "Yes please!" I said. That felt like a huge weight off my shoulders, I can only briefly meet Tom Nook.

By now, I have learned you need friends to get by here. I am sure a lot of people want to get out like I do. My house is small, so I can't meet hold a meeting there. I feel like I already have one friend, Pelly. I asked her what to do. "I think your plan is risky, but I will help you. I was forced to stay like you. You may stay in the extra bedroom in my house, if you'd like." I nodded and thanked her. I walked out feeling more confident than ever. But not for long.
I went to meet everyone in town. I wanted to see if I could round up any more people for my group. Halfway to an animal named Alfonso's house, I ran into the last person I wanted to see. You can guess. I'll bet you're right. Mayor Isabelle.
"I heard about your little plan." she said much more fiercely than before. "It looks like someone heard as you were talking to Pelly. Looks like Tortimer finally cracked." I heard heavy footsteps behind me. "Take her away, Digby."
I woke up in a dark cavern. I looked around me. A single spot light shone in the middle of a hard wood floor. A blue and white cat wearing a red sweater. "Hello. How may I help you?" He said lazily. I got the impression that he was bored with his job. "Umm... was taken here by uhh... Digby." He sighed. "Oh, another prisoner. This way please." I followed him into what looked like a jail cell. "Here is the holding tank. Wait here until Mayor Isabelle decides what to do with you." I sat on the bed. Well, it was more like pieces of cardboard taped together to make a mat on the floor. I landed hard on the mat and fell into a deep sleep.

I woke up to a sharp prodding on my earlobe. "Wake up! Wake up!" said a harsh female voice. I looked up. Even before I looked, I knew who it was. Mayor Isabelle was standing before me with a cold look on her face. "You are required to go to the yard." she said in her same harsh voice. Oh great. I wonder who else will be there.
Outside, we seemed to be behind a row of tall buildings. I could hear voices and the sound of newly polished shoes on cobblestone on the other side. I tried to hear the scenery. I heard the familiar sound of rushing fountain water. I thought of the town square I had gone to so many times back at home. I remembered the shopping trips I had taken with my closest friends, school shopping with my family. I tried to let the soothing sound of the water rush over me. This was one of the only times where it would not calm my nerves.
I was brought out of my daydream by the same cold voice Isabelle had used when speaking to me in the jail house. It seemed like everyone was like me, it was their first day here. "This, is the deletion center." said Isabelle. "This is where you go when you do something that I don't like. I will use the example of Leighton here, she tried to get herself and other villagers out." I knew she was trying to make me look like someone who actually deserved to be there. I could here gasps from around the crowd. It seemed like no one had attempted anything that big.
Mayor Isabelle continued prattling on to the others. "In my opinion, Tortimer was to soft on the villagers. The deletion center was the first new addition when I came to office." I was hearing the words but not actually listening. I was looking at a sign behind me. "Katrina's Fortunes" it read in big shiny gold and purple letters. But, the speech was nearing an end. I had no time to investigate what Katrina's Fortunes was. Everyone was starting to walk inside the deletion center again. I took one last look at the sign.
If there was anything I knew right then, it was that I had to get to Katrina's Fortunes. I don't know how I knew. I just knew, that somehow, I could get out with whoever Katrina was' help.

All through the simple meal of soup and bread, I plotted to go to Katrina's Fortunes. I decided to sneak off during the tomorrow's time in the yard. There were so many people, I didn't think I would get caught. But I had to rethink my plan very soon.
That night at around midnight, an alarm sounded at a distance. I lifted my jumped abruptly from my cot. "Someone is getting away! SOMEONE IS GETTING AWAY!!!" The guard's voice rang throughout the building like the alarm itself. I had no cell mate yet, so no one was speculating about who tried to get out. I had no idea, as it was my first day and I knew none of the others' personality. I heard the door open and Mayor Isabelle's cold voice. "Go to sleep, go to sleep. I will personally patrol the hallways and see who is missing." I said a mental prayer to who had tried to run. Oh lord, they are in for some trouble.
The next morning, breakfast was noisier than usual. That is, until Isabelle stepped up to the front of the room. "I have some announcements to make." she said, her voice dripping with sugar. "Now, after the big production last night, I think you deserve to know who it was." you could almost feel the eagerness in the room. "Brandon Jeffreys. Get up here right now." a boy of about my age (16) came up to the place where Isabelle was standing. He had dusty hair and blue eyes. The color of sparkly blue in his eyes almost matched the beautiful silvery blue of my eyes. He didn't looked scared. He looked like he was used to this and had been front and center, standing next to someone with the power to end his life there and then. I admired that.
In the middle of Mayor Isabelle's speech about how it is nearly impossible to escape the deletion center and we shouldn't even try, a thought hit me. A beautiful, glorious thought I had not realized until then. Relief ran through my body like an angry river. Brandon Jefferys was another human. I was not alone.

Chapter 7
Across the Line of Fire
We were behind the city again. I had sweet-talked some people into distracting the guards. I knew I had to go to Katrina's Fortunes, although I didn't know how. I had no money, and I heard a rumor that Katrina reported deletion captives who come to her store. I thought that somehow I would keep her quiet.
Digby was out watching us. He had his normal gruff facial expressions and was grunting and yelling at everyone. I had no idea how my fellow prisoners were going to pull this think off. The last thing I wanted was for them to get hurt. I watched as a sheep named Eunice approached the guard.
The next thing I knew is people were shouting and I was running, running, running for what seemed like miles. The door opened with no one near it as I ran up panting. I admit I half expected that. "Enter." said a strange voice. I had crossed the line of fire.
I sat on a purple silk pouffe in the middle of the room. Before me was an elaborate table with two candles in golden holders. Katrina sat before me. She was a hippopotamus that was purple and wearing golden bracelets and necklaces. She sparkled in the candle light.
"What do you seek lost soul?" she asked. Her voice was silvery like moonlight that I couldn't seem to catch. It floated across the room to me like a cloud in the clear, blue sky. I didn't know how to respond.
