So, I'm really torn. New Leaf looks like an excellent game but I still have a few concerns. First of all, I'd be buying a 3DS just for it. Sure, there's other games I would like to get later, but I would just be getting it for NL. Another thing is that the game hasn't even been out that long and some people have pretty much completed their towns. For those of you who have it, would you say it's an easy game to beat? I'm afraid that if it's TOO easy, it will get boring much quicker. It really does seem fun, but I don't want to spend a large amount of money on something I'll get bored of in a few months. I guess I'm just really indecisive because I really wanted it, then I was like ehhh, then I got really into it, and now I'm not sure again. -_- So am I just over-analyzing everything? I feel like I'm just thinking about all of the negative things about it, instead of the positive. I may have a chance to get it soon, so I want to be 100% sure I'm going to get my use out of it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I bought my 3DS just for NL. I hate spending money and I was worried it might be a mistake. Earlier tonight, my mom looked at me and said, "That must be the best money you've spent all summer!" It was about $250 when you add in tax. When I got it home, I started playing it and it was amazing! Too fun. Now I'm one month and two days in and I've played about 270 hours so far.

It's 10000000000% worth it. If you have the money and it won't make you go broke to where you can't pay rent or something, then BUY IT! BUT IT NOW!

I was the same way when New Leaf came out, though. Read my topic here... http://www.animalcrossingcommunity.com/Topic/5780696/1/Is_AC_NL_Worth_It_Intense_Shopping_Strategy

I can't put New Leaf down. I play it for hours on end every day.

Well I overanalyze things too.

I've had the game since release date and my town isn't really completed. I don't really think there is such a thing as a 'completed' town because you may be inspired to change something. You may wanna demolish a project and build something else.

Have you played past AC games? How long did they last you? Because chances are if you played them for a long time, you will play this one for a while too. It's the same basic formula with enhancements to make it last longer. My only complaint is it's a little too easy to make money, however there are lots more things to spend money on in this game. You completed house upgrade alone costs 7 million bells, plus all the other projects to do.

It also depends on how often you play. I know there are people here who have already put hundreds of hours in their game. I have just now reached the 100 hour mark. I take my time with it and enjoy it day by day. And I'd say even at 100 hours and my town isn't finished, I got my money's worth.

I say the 3DS alone is worth it because of all the great games out for it and the future releases you can get.

lol back when Neighbor posted that thread I didn't think buying a 3ds ONLY for NL was worth it.
Well...that was well over 1 month ago and I've now got over 220 hours into my game. I've completely changed my mind and would absolutely recommend a 3ds just to be able to experience this game.
This is one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had! I look forward to playing it every single day.

You might be buying the 3DS initially for New Leaf but eventually I'm sure you'll buy other games. It's worth it.

How's this?  I bought TWO players for NL.  Back when the regular 3DS came out, I bought one just to play NL.  Now, there is a terrific Professor Layton game that I got for it, too, but I bought it for NL.  Then they kept pushing the release date back and back.  I previously had a DS Lite XL and I was a little dissatisfied with the smaller screen on the 3DS, too.

Then the day came when I saw they were taking pre-orders for the LE AC 3DS XL with game included.  I marched into GameStop, traded in my nearly never used 3DS for $80 credit and put it down on the new system.  I couldn't be happier, even though I paid for the player twice.

Haha wow, so I guess it would be worth it. It seems like most people who own this game only have the highest regards for it! I've never had a perfect town or completed any of the museum exhibits on any of my other games so I think I would try harder with this one.

I bought a 3DS XL version especially for this game (and only this game - no time to commit myself to any other games - married, kids, FT working,...).

I certainly think it is worth it (and the AC 3DSXL is just GREAT) !

i bought the 3ds xl for nl (i actually got the limited editional animal crossing 3ds)

its a whole lot better than normal 3ds. the screen on that is just way too small. even for games other than animal crossing.

and if you really change your mind in the future you can always sell it on ebay or something!

It is the only game I have been playing since it came out. I would say, uhhh yes, but I promise that you would be into a couple other games as well.. The built in Mii Plaza is awesome and after you get into it at first, you will become obsessed!!! Especially with Nintendo expanding their streetpass... Then you can watch Netflix on it too... hopefully Hulu sometime soon, but I don't have a subscription for hulu though... You will find some games that you are interested in, it is definitely worth it if you ask me...

way back when New Leaf was announced it sold me the 3DS.  I bought mine a year or two ago and the game kept getting delayed.  Now that it's been released I can say I love it!

PS: radioactivkittn- umm you don't like pokemon?  Pokemon X & Y will be out soon as another reason to buy the system if you do.

I barely touched my 3DS before I got ACNL.  >.>  I got the system solely for this game, and at the time, I knew of no other games for it that might interest me.  I always intended to buy a 3DS in order to play this game--it was that important to me.

Even though I found and bought several other games, I barely played them.  I am relatively new to the whole business of handheld games, having gotten my first Nintendo handheld sometime before 2005.  Now I have NL, who knows when I'll think about playing another game!  I have even bought my man and my sibling each a 3DS in hope of playing something with them, but it has not happened yet.  :B

I feel ACNL's social aspect alone made the purchase worthwhile.  It is really up to individual needs, preferences, and beliefs.

I bought one just for New Leaf. Got it on Craigslist for $100. Went out and bought New Leaf right after. $140 for how much use I'm getting out of it is a pretty good deal if you ask me.

Look at it this way, a 2 hour movie will run you about $10. So you're paying about $5/hour for entertainment.

With New Leaf, I've put in approximately (and this is probably a low estimate) 100 hours in the game since it launched (about 2 hours per day on average). That's about $1.40/hour for entertainment and that number gets lower and lower.

So yeah, I'd say it's worth it.

If you have experience with Wild World, then I'd say yes - especially if you have other DS games since the 3DS will play both DS & 3DS games on it. If you are using a DS system to also play GBA games, then it may or may not be worth it to you.

Assuming you don't use a DS to play GBA games, if you can trade in your older DS or DSi systems toward the purchase, it will help defray a part of the cost. The only downside is that your FCs for those DS/DSi games will will change. If you've bought any games out of the DSi eShop, you'll want to try to transfer those to the 3DS before you give up the DSi.

Personally, I've never traded in an old system toward the purchase of a new system, so I may not be thinking of everything you'll want to do before making the purchase (assuming you do trade in systems). I owned three 3DS systems prior to ACNL being released & bought the ACNL XL bundle just because it was AC themed. I don't regret that purchase.

As far as ACNL being "easy to beat", if you go at your own pace like I'm doing, then you should get years of entertainment out of the game. With Wild World, I did have a circle of friends who would host cataloging parties (me included). Having a completed catalog early didn't take away from my enjoyment of the game. There was still plenty to do in the game. I'd expect a "completed" town (which I'm not sure can be done) wouldn't have an effect on the rest of the game. At some point I'll get my town where I;m satisfied with it & think it to be complete - but that's still a long way off and the villagers will still suggest improvements.

new leaf is what made me buy the 3ds and so far it was completely worth it and as for it being too easy to finish for fishing and bug catching it is allittle too easy because of the island but then you have to rember there is all year and you have winter and everything and there are much more hollidays in the other parts of the year wich im verry exited for and so i dont think it will get old verry fast i know it is expensive but in my opinion it was worth it
