Hi, I'm trying to make a path in my town but I'm not sure if my work will all be in my vain once a new resident settles in. I read they can put their homes anywhere & can destroy your trees (hybrids if you don't have them fenced) so would it be stupid to start or does the game recognize that houses can't be built on top of patterns?
Currently Playing - Animal Crossing: New Leaf

The way I look at it is you can make edits to paths if need be. As you develop your town more you could also use things like streetlights on the sides of your paths. A house can't destroy a public work so that should both look nice and keep your paths safe.
There is also an "exploit" allowing you to choose where villagers go in a sense.
You simply create a new character when you start the day before the town is loaded and the next villager location is chosen.
When you start the game as an already existing character, the game saves after the town is loaded. When you create a new character, the town is loaded but the game doesn't save until you get your tent built and talk to Isabelle.
You then reset the game until you get a suitable location for the new villagers house.
If you're confused, when the town is first loaded after 6am everything for the day is set up, including the next villager location.
