I entered. (shiver... shiver... shiver...) The judges scare me, like LeeAnn, this judge panel is like a brick wall with electric wiring in the center. (shiver... I was nervous when entering, too. I'm not exactly scared of the judges; I'm just scared that I won't go through.

It would be comforting if the judges were less experienced, though.

We also need to worry about the fact that we're competing against the 2011 winner and someone who placed third with only a prologue. UG and H_K, I'm talking about you two. (Of course, there are a bunch of other good writers entering.)

Then, I have to worry about the fact that, as far as I know, I'm the only comedy writer entering.

I'm scared so much right now. The first three/four were Mediocre. They were basically glorified prologue pieces.

Wait when did I only have a prologue? Unless you mean Triangle then yeah that was a really long prologue ;D

I wouldn't worry too much about me as it's been a good while since I've written anything. Chances are I'll be really rusty this time around. Or you know what? I have a better idea. I'm going to be gold for a second a long time ago, and then I'll turn green. I will be an emerald. Or a lime. Limestone. I am limestone.

I think with my audition I'll leave my story until I find out what they think. I have a prologue and a chapter so it's pretty much two, and my chapter ended with a surprise, so I kind of want to keep them guessing during the judging haha.

I'm putting prologue up tomorrow and entering, and post the next few chapters regularly.

Next up is another competition familiar, but this time someone who has never achieved a high ranking.  She entered both 2011 and 2012, achieving 19th (of 24) and 10th (of 12) respectively.  However, another year has passed since her last attempt, so can she get further?  It's Cutiepiepie with INFeCtiOUs.

I just read the first two chapters.  While short it did follow a timeline and was easy to follow.  Perhaps it is how she is writing and then transfering the story, I don't know, but I did notice a key of punctuation problems that, if she wants to go far, might be something she'll need to address.  The storyline was definitely intriguing though.

Dan_the_man: Things seem a bit short, but I guess I'll still give it a yes.

Please don't be afraid of the judges. :c Consider this... I doubt we'll get much more than 24. As long as we GET 24, those 24 will all be in the voting stages, which guarantees you a position. Even if you get a no in auditions and I don't get over 24 entries, you'll still be in the finals. So if you get a no, please do not unflag.

So I was a bit of an idiot and forgot to post what you'll actually be doing. This will only be if we get a final 24. Please note that none of these are compulsory so ill be reluctant to allow any drop outs because you don't want to do it. However, doing all the following WILL get you more attention in the competition, and ultimately more votes either directly from challenges or indirectly from other stuff.

Tasks
-Answer a weekly interview, which over time will allow voters and readers to get to know you both as a person and writer. These could be about your fanfic, your other writing or you yourself.
-Aim to update once a week. Provide me with a short (say 3/400 words) extract from your recent update to display on the thread. If you don't update, you're expected to give me an update from an already posted chapter. This one really is compulsory. You don't HAVE to update, but it's up to you to send me a part you want displayed
-Vote. Again not compulsory. Yes, voting for other people (voting yourself is NOT allowed and there is a punishment if you try) may well threaten your own position, but believe it or not, a large percentage of annual voters are people in the competition itself. Work out alliances to vote for each other (bare in mind when the time comes, you're not sllowed to say you HAVE voted. Saying you will is a different matter, cause there's no public guarantee you actually did. But anyway, I'm relying on contestants to vote. The chances are if you don't, I won't get enough votes and will either have to delay weeks until I get enough and waste time, or have to end the competition. I think your pride can stand to take a small hit.
-Challenges. Every few weeks there will be various writing challenges set. These could be based on holidays such as Halloween, or writing styles such as action and horror, or even cliffhangers and dialogue. The judges will pick the top 3 and they'll get votes based on their position. Entering and placing in each challenge can easily mean the difference between winning and losing.
-Generally taking part. I confess, doing this competition is absolutely no fun when contestants and general viewers don't bother even posting. Comment on results, congratulate people, express happiness at going through or whatever. If you don't take part and comment, I don't care if you leave or not. I like getting attached o contestants and not wanting them to leave. It's what made 2009 group so close, everyone in the top 7 posted regularly even after they left. And everyone was so close. Please, judges included, take part. If you care, the competition will be more enjoyable for you.
-Groups. Take part in discussion when you're put in a group PT. your group leaders are there to help you, and even though you're all competing to win, those in your group are your allies. If you're looking for someone to vote for and don't know who, consider those in your group. 2010 and 2011 both had great team spirit and competition. Groups are not just to divide you up, it's to put you together. You're in you group cause one of the judges picked you to be there. Take the chance to discuss writing and make friends

I think that's about it. It's not as bad as it looks. Those around in 2010 and 2011 will know what I mean

Just to add, don't let the 'weekly update' thing scare you because a lot of us only updated once every 2-4 weeks (I think I aimed for monthly updates, and then took a hiatus halfway through the comp ), and we still placed pretty high in the last comp.

If you don't think you can make weekly updates, do what I did: start from your prologue and do multiple excerpts per chapter (if you have enough content per chapter to squeeze 2-3 out of). That way, if you have a prologue+3 chapters up now, you're safe for 2 or 3 months... and every additional update will add a few weeks-worth of excerpts for you to use.

lol I wouldn't worry about me. I decided to try something new for me in the story I entered, and its non AC... So I'm kind of treading in unfamiliar water here. I'm not so sure I'm much of a threat. xP

^ You and HK are also the two people I'm most worried about, actually. I've not read anyone's entries so far but judging by past competitions, you two are quite... something.
