While chain mail is technically prohibited under all circumstances, it's always been my understanding that that section of the Topics Not Allowed rule is more or less ACC's version of a blue law. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've never seen a Moderator go after a member for posting chain mail in their profile unless there's something questionable in the chain mail.
I'm just going to take a guess but I believe it's just classed as things that could scare people, like 'If you don't pass this on then bad things will happen...' etc. Most likely because the are some quite young ages on this site at times and they could easily get freaked out at things like that and it's not the type of thing for ACC.
I doubt it has anything to do with copying and pasting keyboard art. I don't see how'd that be against the rules.
I love ACC & it has taught me lessons about how you don't have to swear at people if they are annoying you, just tell them how you feel and most likely they will apologise.
Buuuuut, I do have 1 thing I think should change :3 Its the word which begins with D and rhymes with ham. I really am not sure why its not allowed. I personally find crap more offensive :3 Like in Disney shows:
God hamnit, Robby Ray stuart
like if they use it in disney which everyone can watch, why not here on ACC :3
I was gonna say about a mod calling me a snob aswell one time but that was a long time ago and I got a ticket thingy for replying...so yeah :3
Thanks for taking the time to read & keep on doing what your doing ^.^
I agree that word has been desensitized a lot, but I don't think it's quite ready to be unfiltered. We do have a younger audience in some cases where keeping ACC clean for that audience and their parents is no doubt a big priority, and I think that at this point the parents still could see it as an unwelcome word. Though even "crap" used to be filtered, and eventually it desensitized to the point where it was allowed; and maybe other words could follow in time.
I think that word (the same word for what a beaver makes) is considered "bad". A general test I would use is to put yourself in a grocery store in a usual suburban city. Imagine you are a parent of an 8 year old kid. If you would hear the word and turn and look at the person who said it, then it isn't okay on ACC. Words like crap are acceptable in almost any situation (some exceptions being school and religious places), while the D word is still not commonly accepted as fine.
If words were to be removed, I could think of many more that would be of higher priority, such as the word that can mean either happy or homosexual, the full spelled out version of OMG, or the adjective describing something covered in blood.

^^Hopefully.I seem to always need to use it and instead I say Dang and so therefore I begin to sound American according to some people
^First one in your list could be used really badly and I doubt that will ever be allowed. second one...yeah I agree :3 And I have no clue about the third
Just some clarifications regarding chain "mail" or "letters" in the profile. Any chain letter describing some dire circumstance of some person will be removed. Anything that indicates that something unfortunate or good will happen if you don't or do share it will be removed. Anything that degrades, insults or is offensive to any person or group will be removed. This also applies to keyboard art that encourages sharing.
As far as words in the language filter, every now and then the Mods and Admins may discuss words to add and remove from the filter. While some words are indeed more tame and considered as such by many, there are some that find such words offensive. This is based on different upbringing, cultures etc. Other words are blocked because they tend to be used in a derogatory manner. As we strive to be an all ages, family friendly site, we have to still block certain words from usage.

Even in profiles? I don't understand why just sharing keyboard art is not allowed. I agree on the chain mail with dire circumstances, and I also agree that I don't think the chainmail should be in threads but in profiles. But just regular keyboard art, I don't see much of a problem with. Does it relate to copyright issues?
Callum, VK is referring to keyboard art that is accompanied by text that promises something bad will happen if you don't share it. Just regular keyboard art, not of the "share this or else you will have bad luck " etc, variety, is fine.

This doesn't apply to me, but it might to other people.
Many people have a keyboard art cross with text along the lines of "If you believe in God, put this in your profile if you don't want to be denied at the gates of heaven"
To someone who is not religious and would not even consider adding it to their profile, it would not be considered something bad. Does that mean it is allowed?

Even if you don't put the "if you don't want to be denied at the gates of Heaven" part, it's not allowed. From my experience and from what a modmin has told me, anything that tells people to pass it on, whether or not it promises something, is considered keyboard art.
Hadger, that is not strictly true. The keyboard art is fine. The sentence " If you believe in God, put this in your profile" is pushing it, in my view; it would be better if it read "If you believe in God, you can put this in your profile". The statement "if you don't want to be denied at the gates of heaven" is definitely not allowed. I don't know exactly what the Modmin you spoke to told you, but it appears you either misunderstood, or the Modmin was mistaken. See also the explanations that VenusKamal and I posted, above.

The "you will be denied at the gates of heaven" part of that keyboard art is crossing the line. That is implying something bad will happen if you don't share the keyboard art. If you want to share the keyboard art and remove that part of it, you'd be well within the rules. The Modmins have certainly removed that text from that cross keyboard art in the past.
I think a good rule of thumb when sharing keyboard art with text included or sharing a message/mantra/belief in your profile, is to put the emphasis on yourself. Use "I" statements instead of "you" statements. Placing emphasis on yourself makes it clear you are not pressuring others to share this piece of info, to share this identify or share this belief. "I love Nintendo", and "I believe in Jesus Christ" are example of statements that cannot be misconstrued as being aimed at other people. Using language that gives others the option to share the text or keyboard art, as Essie pointed out above, is the better way to encourage sharing. It gives people the option to share if they wish. Not that they have to share it or suffer some dire consequence.

Sometimes it is obvious. Most people talk in different patterns and if 2 people are accused of being the same person, if their posts match in style then they most likely are the same. I'll use me for example, I always use 2 spaces after a period, use proper punctuation, generally do not type run on sentences or paragraphs, use parenthesis a lot, and do not use emotes. While there are for sure people with patterns like mine, you could probably rule out 95% of ACC from being a duplicate account as me just from looking at speech style.
There are some technical tools that can also be used, but I won't say those because it would make it easier for someone to make multiple accounts if they knew what the staff looked for.

Oh...I asked because the email that I made my account with is shared, and the person that I'm sharing the email with wants their own ACC account. Is it okay for them to make one while using the email we share?
According to the ACC FAQ, "Each account on ACC must use a different e-mail address, for security reasons. Matters regarding one account may get mixed up with the other account if ACC contacts you via e-mail. If you try to create an account with an e-mail address that is already used, it will most likely be denied." so whoever shares the email is going to have to use another.
It's not possible to make a new account with an email address that is already listed on another account. It's pretty easy to make your own email address though, using hotmail or gmail or any free email provider. If you than change the email on your account to your new address, your friend will be able to use that address for their own ACC account.
Having said that, I would recommend you both using a new/different email address. It's easy to get confused, otherwise. You need to be able to receive password resets and other communications from ACC without there being any confusion as to which ACC account it's about.

Um, so I only joined recently, and I consider ACC a stop gap until I find a better community. Why? It's all very nice to say you're all-ages and what not, but if I can't even be myself as an adult on the "grown-ups only" section of the forum, it's really not all-ages, and definitely not all cultures. Your filter is simply taking it too far for me, and reading in this thread that "crap" and "sexy" were both once banned makes me feel like I'm entirely unwelcome as someone over the age of 5. If someone on here happens to know about an AC group online that's adult-friendly (and not purile like the gamefaqs board), do send me a note!
Incidentally, the announcements linked a survey, which I was happy to take given then promise of a chance at a gift card, but at the end of the survey it told me I'd come through the wrong site to enter for that, and I had no clue by which means I should inform the staff that they should remove that incentive line from the announcement. I guess I should have done the adoption thing to know how the site worked, instead of relying on years of experience on the internet, but I just didn't like the idea....
I know many adults who don't use "sexy" or "crap" as a part of their vocabulary. This isn't a dating site so I really don't see the need to use the work sexy, and there are other words you can use to replace crap. I am assuming you are using it in the place of garbage to describe how something is worthless, so you could use the words, garbage, useless, terrible, or pointless and get the same message across.
I know that the announcement was edited because of a problem with the link, so there is a possibility of having the wrong link when you took it. I know for me, I entered my email and it said I was entered. Seeing how you said you have years of experience on the internet, I assume you know that due to technical error or user error, sometimes things don't work out as planned.
