Welcome to the NES High Score Thread!

We're an Official Resetti's Revenge Thread and we're here to put you up against your fellow ACC members to see who can achieve the highest score in on of ACC's various NES games. We're going to be cycling through the NES collection, featuring one game per week.

This week's game is Balloon Fight.
> The competition begins at noon every Sunday and ends the following Sunday at which point winners will be chosen and the next entry period will begin.

To enter you will have to send us a picture of your score.
> Once you have your picture, you're going to want to post it to a photo hosting site of your choice and then link it here in your post, like this: [link=linkurl]link text[/link]. (We also recommend posting it to the flickr group we've established!)

The top 3 scores in each category will receive a prize.
> You may submit as many entries as you like into as many categories as you like, but only your highest score in a given category will be included in our leaderboards. If we have any doubts as to the authenticity of your submission you will be automatically disqualified.

This is a good idea. I don't care much for Balloon Fight, so I'll skip this week, but I'll be sure to participate in some of the future games.

Unfortunately ajmole, we need picture proof of your submissions before we can accept them. If you could take a picture of your high scores (they should display at the top of the screen when you choose that game option) and then upload the picture onto a photo sharing site and link it here, we'll be able to add your scores to the list. This contest doesn't end until a week from today so you still have plenty of time.

Well, those are the highest scores I got today. I had higher scores awhile back.

Could I please have a copy of Ballon Fight? Since i amde a new town, I don't have the gifts you get in the main anymore when you first start.

Here's a guide to Balloon Fight that should provide you guys with some tips. Thanks go to Arias360 for helping me write it.


Game Guide - Balloon Fight

Controls: Main Screen
Z Button: Cycle through game variants.
X Button: Cycle through game variants.
Y Button: Select game.
Start Button: Select game.
L + R + Z: Quit playing NES Game.

Controls: In Game
Joystick: Move character left or right.
D-Pad: Move character left or right.
A Button: Float upwards.
B Button: Float upwards.
Y Button: Pause game.
Start Button: Pause game.
L + R + Z: Quit playing NES Game.

Goal:
1 or 2 Player/s: Get through the level by killing all the other Balloon Fighters.
Balloon Trip: Avoid being shocked while going through the maze- last as long as you can!

Note: Three deaths will result in a game over.

Enemies:
Pink: Slow and not very smart.
Green: Medium speed and a bit smarter.
Light Orange: Faster and smart.
Fish: Will try to eat both players and enemies when near the water.
Clouds: Will begin sending out thunderbolts if you're taking too long to complete the level.

Bonus round:
A bonus round occurs after every 3 levels. A total of 20 balloons will come out from the pipes below. Destroy as many of the balloons as possible to get a higher score. Pop all the balloons for a bonus. The bonus increases from 10,000 to 15,000 and then 25,000 the third time you encounter the bonus round.

Tips & Tricks:
- After you defeat an enemy, collect the bubble that floats up after it dies for an extra 500 points.

- You can defeat enemies at the beginning of the level while they are still on the ground pumping up their balloon, making the level easier. But note that you will receive less points for doing this.

- If you allow an enemy to refill its balloon, it will become the next strongest color when it's finished refilling, so be sure to knock it out before it does so.

- You get more points if you can defeat an enemy while it is parachuting to the ground than after it has already reached the ground.

- You can get an infinite amount of points in a given level if you keep allowing an enemy to refill his balloon after you defeat him, but you will have to avoid the lightning bolts that will accumulate.

- If you fall into the water you will lose a life. You will also lose a life if you hover too closely to the water and the fish comes out and eats you.

- Use the fact the screen is continuous (the right connects to the left) to your advantage to run away from enemies or to pop balloons more easily in the bonus stages. One trick I use is to keep floating in one direction in the bonus stages (just keep floating right for example and you'll keep going from left to right across the screen). This way you don't lose time turning around to change directions.

- In Balloon Trip, pop balloons for more points and collect bubbles to stop the screen from scrolling and the lightning bolts from moving.

I just played 1-player mode and finished with a score of 20,750

I know it is not high, but I figured I'd post it since no one else has entered! And if I score a much higher score, can I re-enter in this category? Or will I be limited to enter in another one?

PS- Sorry for the bad quality, I just used my 3DS real quick to get the picture.

Yes you can reenter a higher score.

Just played and got over 500k. o.o I started freaking out when I almost died and had like 499k xD

Anyways here is pic. :3 I got a total of 502,800

^^O_O. That's a crazy record.

My last record was 250,000 but I lost the memory through corruption. I just played for fun today, got the record. Then I went on this board to make a thread about it and then saw this and was like "Oh perfect!".

I remember the highest someone ever said they got was 400,000 so I feel pretty accomplished.
