Hey guys... Figured I'd try my hand at an AC fanfiction. Entering in Computerfan's Fanfic Competition. Critism is appreciated and try to bear with me if I upload slowly... (btw, anybody know of the character limit in one post?)
~~Prologue
"Regular, please," Mitzi sighed to Brewster.
"Would you care for some pigeon milk, miss?" He asked quietly.
Pigeon milk? "Um... No thanks."
The pigeon stood there for a moment, flabbergasted. "...Okay."
Mitzi sighed again. Going for coffee was probably going to be forbidden soon, she just knew it. Those thugs wouldn't allow her to even think of the sweet - or in Brewster's case, bitter - aroma of the java she loved. This town was going to heck. There was nothing she could do about it, either, and she knew that.
"Here you are," Brewster said, placing a cup of fresh coffee in front of her. "It's hot..."
Were those tears welling up in her eyes? Wait... Why am I crying? she thought. Crying never helped things get better! But she couldn't help it. Her tears might just be one luxury they'll take away. Yes, they could probably even take away her crying, and they'd laugh while doing it.
"I'm sick of this, Brewster," she sobbed. "I hate those people. I just want our town back."
Brewster watched the cat breakdown. Of course he wouldn't tell anyone - what good could come from that? "Maybe we won't get it back," he told her after a minute, "But somebody will."
She sniffed, wiping her eyes. "Yeah. Somebody's going to put a stop to this. We just don't know who." She brought the cup to her lips and looked at her reflection in the dark mixture. "But whoever it is better get here soon. I don't think we're going to last much longer."

Bu-bump. This bus should get its suspension checked. Who knew the ride would be so rough?
"Whew!" a voice said beside the newcomer. "Just made it!" The human looked over to see a blue cat. They met before, when this new person learned his name - Rover. "The first step in starting your new life is getting on the bus!" That was a rather cheesy thing to say.
"So umm... Oh yeah! I was about to ask what your name was!" he exclaimed. He seems to be a very happy kitty.
"Uh, it's Shannon," Shannon told him.
He nodded. "Oh, Shannon, is it? Nice name! I like it!"
She smiled. "Yeah, I suppose it's a pretty cute name."
"Yeah, yeah, completely! It's fun and feminine! The perfect name for you!" Rover laughed.
"I know, thanks."
He continued, "I have to say, though, the thought of you moving into Maple Bluffs and living on your own..." Then he stared hard at her. "You're one brave kid, Shannon. I envy you! That's a really strange town. Are you excited?"
"Oh, yeah!" This girl didn't really know much about Maple Bluffs. She saw it in the newspaper that there were houses available and felt like that she should move there. Besides, she liked the name. Maple means maple trees, and maple trees mean maple syrup, and maple syrup is sugar! I like sugar. Sugar is good.
"I hear that! Oh, yeah!" Rover praised with enthusiasm. "Hey, but listen, you know where your house is yet?"
A house? ...A house! Why don't I think of the important things? "I'll find one!" She brushed the matter aside. Whatever.
Rover laughed again. "Figure you'll tumble onto one once you get there, huh... Well you're in luck! I hear that the housing market in Maple Bluffs isn't dead just yet and there are still a couple new houses left! So, if you're looking for a place, I guess you have some money with you?"
Hm. Money. Yet another matter forgotten in the excitement of moving. "Some..." Shannon didn't want him to offer me any bells or anything, after all. That would just be embarrassing.
"Nice!" he grinned. "How exciting for you! I hope whatever house you buy lives up to your expectations! In case you didn't know, if you want info on houses, the town hall is a great place to start! Here, check this out! It's a map of Maple Bluffs." She prospected a house right on a reverse canyon and made a note of checking it out. "Go on, take it! When you get to town, use this to find the town hall."
Shannon stared at the map. There were only eight other villagers - Mitzi, Tank, Gwen, Olivia, Grizzly, Lobo, Moose, and Biskit. I hope they like me... No, mom told me not to worry about such trivial things.
The bus driver announced, "Yar, next stop... Maple Bluffs... Maple Bluffs be next..." He then went on to whistling a rather lovely tune.
She looked at Rover again and he said, "Oh! Hey! We're about to stop at Maple Bluffs!" Um... Yeah, I think he just said that. "All righty then! I hope we get a chance to chat again sometime!"
Suddenly, the dimly lit tunnel opened up to a flood of light and she looked out the window to try to see her new home. Everything is going to be perfect, she thought, I just know it! I would go to the city and get a haircut, buy some new clothes, and get a shoe shine. This is going to be so much fun!
The bus pulled into the town of Maple Bluffs and the girl could barely keep herself from looking outside. She wanted to see the new town in full when she first stepped outside. As her feet touched the bus stop step, Rover said in parting, "Head on over to town hall before you do anything else! Bye-bye!" As the doors closed, he muttered, "And good luck - you'll need it."
Shannon gave him a questioning look, wondering what he meant. The doors to the bus closed and he was gone. "What did he mean by that?" she wondered aloud.
But then she turned around and saw Maple Bluffs.

Back on the bus, Kapp'n and Rover sat in silence, both grim. It was Kapp'n who first spoke up. "Yar, tell me... Do ye think the lass'll stay fer a while?"
Rover didn't answer immediately. "There's no way to know for sure. She is the first human to go to Maple Bluffs. She might be different."
"Yar..." was all the bus driver said before looking back at the road.
You can tell from this chapter what Shannon looks like. Go to this face guide and follow what she said on the bus xD And yes, that is pretty much the exact script that Rover says, besides a couple parts.

Shannon stood at the bus stop, unsure of what to do. Should she call the bus back to take her to the next town? She seriously considered doing this, but then she looked at her map again. That one house on the edge of town called to her, waiting to be furnished. She lit up at the idea. No, she wasn't going to leave without taking three steps into the town.
Maple Bluffs was only a shell of a town, it seemed. The grass was disappearing, half of the trees were chopped, and garbage was strewn about everywhere. There was not a flower in sight, only weeds, weeds, weeds. The odor was like that of a rotting desert. Even the sky had a slightly noticeable tinge of brown-gray. What happened here? Did a tornado pass through?
Shannon took a deep breath. All this town needed was a little cleaning up. Nothing that couldn't be fixed. At least there were apple trees. Funny how there were no maple trees, though.
A few cicadas were singing by the time she reached the town hall. I knew I should've brought my net, she scolded herself. Or money... A pelican looked up from a filing cabinet as she walked in.
"Oh!" said the pelican. "You must be Shannon! I'm Pelly."
"Yeah, I'm moving in!" she grinned. "I have to ask, Pelly, why is your town so messy?"
Pelly froze and frowned a little. "Well, uh... Why don't we talk about that later, hm?" she quickly dismissed. Then she smiled again and told her about her job at the post office and her sister Phyllis that worked the night shift. "Tom Nook, the town shop owner, is your landlord," Pelly said. "You should see him about buying the house you want."
"Okay, I will!" Shannon assured. "Thank you, Pelly!" Just then a figure rose from the desk behind her and hobbled in front of the newcomer.
"So," the old tortoise began, "you are the human who has come to live here." He scrutinized Shannon thoroughly, like he was trying to decide something. "Tell me something. Who do you respect the most?"
She didn't really know how to answer this. She didn't really know who he even was. But a faint whisper from Pelly suggested an answer. "The... mayor?"
He instantly brightened and laughed out loud. "Ah, you're a good kid, I can see that! Welcome to Maple Bluffs! I'm the mayor, Tortimer!"
My human's intuition tells me that this one is a little kooky. Oh well, I like him anyways. "Nice to meet you, mayor!" Shannon greeted.
They shared a lovely conversation about the difference between tortoises and turtles before she exited the town hall and sped off through the little ruined town to a little ruined shop called Nook's Cranny. A bell chimed as she opened the door, alerting a tired-looking raccoon to her arrival.
"Welcome! Get something or get out!" he accosted, smiling earnestly.
She paused, amused by his salutation. "I'm actually not here to buy anything. I came to get a key for my house, this one right here." She pulled out her map to show him the one she was talking about, the one on a cliff overlooking a small patch of land.
"Hm? Oh yes, of course, you're the new villager, and a human at that," he muttered. " My name is Tom Nook. Well then, do you have any money?"
What is with people and asking me about my financial status?! Shannon fidgeted from foot to foot. "Um, well you see, funny story about that, I-"
"Yes, well," Nook interrupted. "You will start a part-time job here immediately, hm?"
"Wait, what? I didn't sign up for that!" she said.
"Now you will," he nodded. "Yes, this will give you a great opportunity to meet your neighbors! I need you to deliver a few things first." He stacked a few boxes of varying sizes and weights on top of her, along with a list of recipients. "Put this uniform on, too. Go now, hm? Time is money!" And with that, he kicked her out of the shop.
I certainly didn't expect that, she thought, irritated somewhat as she walked to the first house.
Nook stared at his door for a second before sighing. "Poor kid..."

btw, school starts tomorrow for me, so I won't be able to write as much :/

Update: Good news! I managed to write out more ideas for the plot and a bit of the next chapter after school. Since I stay until 4:30, I'll have plenty of time for writing

Thanks guys I'm not sure how long the story will be, but I think I'll stick with this 'til the end

"Why is everybody so sorry for me?" Shannon thought aloud. "It's not like I was forced to come here." She shrugged the thought off and continued on her way down the eroding pathway. She took a right and came to an old colonial style house. "Let's see, the map says that this is Mitzi's house." She knocked on the door and waited a minute. Soon enough, a blue and white kitty cat, colors inverse of Rover's, opened the door a crack.
"Hi, I'm Shannon. You must be Mitzi," the human introduced kindly. "I'm have a package from Nook's Cranny for you."
Instantly, the solemn cat perked up and flung the door open. "Hi, Shannon! Nice to meet you!" she said before snatching the box away and tearing it open. "Oh, my new fishing rod!" Mitzi exclaimed. "I've been dying to get one! Thanks!"
"Not a problem," Shannon replied.
The resident then took notice of her. "Oh, wait, I haven't seen you before. Are you new here?"
She grinned. "Yup! First time in town and I already got a job!"
"Oh, so that's why you're the one delivering it to me." She looked past Shannon's shoulder to see the rest of her packages. "Want some help?"
"Really?" Shannon gasped. "You'd help me?"
"Well, sure! Who's next on your list?"
She took a peek at the piece of crumpled paper in her hand. "Biskit."
So then off the new pair of friends went to deliver a small box to a house across town. On the way, Mitzi learned Shannon's birthday, astrology sign, and where she was going to be living. Instantly, they had a bond. Maybe it wasn't impossible to break, but it would be pretty dang difficult.
Sooner than later, they arrived at a house with green shingles. Knocking on the door, Mitzi called out, "Biskit! Your cheesecake is here!"
"DAWG!" an orange dog cried while slamming his door open, tail whipping back and forth. "YES! I've been waiting so LONG for this!" He immediately jumped on top of Shannon, who dropped the box in an effort to keep it safe. "THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!"
"You're welcome!" she laughed, a challenging task considering the weight crushing her. "I'm..." - wheeze - "...Shannon!"
Biskit stood up, took his package into his house, and ran back outside. "So you're the newbie, huh? I was expecting you to be a little taller."
"And I was expecting you to be a little lighter," she jested.
He chuckled. "Sorry. You're working for the ol' Nookster, huh? And Mitzi's helping?"
"Yup!" Mitzi piped up, beaming. "Would you like to carry Tank's package?"
He placed his hand on a rather large box and said, "Sure! Is he next?"
Shannon glanced down at her list again. "Nope. Gwen is."
His tail stopped wagging. Mitzi sighed. Apparantly that was a bad thing. The girl gave them inquisitive looks, to which they said to just "get this over with." The trio marched along dutifully to a house just on the other side of the ledge. Shannon knocked while the other two stepped forward cautiously. A stout penguin opened the oak door, frowning at her. "Can I help you?"
"Are you Gwen? I have a package for you," Shannon smiled, handing her a light, flat box with some type of clothing in it. She peered inside and saw a white cat, sitting on a regal sofa. The cat eyed Shannon once before gazing past her. Shannon turned to see what she was staring at and saw Mitzi giving the other cat such a look that could only be described as a cross between pity and annoyance. The white cat looked away.
"I'll just take that now. Don't knock so loud next time, okay?" Gwen told her before disappearing into her house with the box.
"Who was that inside?" Shannon asked Mitzi. "You seemed kind of upset."
"An old friend," she answered simply. "Let's go find Moose - he's next, right?"
Turns out that Moose was, in fact, next on the list, and they three friends found him sitting by a river, fishing. Shannon greeted him and introduced herself before giving the mouse a citrus carpet and departing for Tank's house.
It wasn't a long walk - just up and around the river bend. (JUST AROUND THE RIVERBEEEND! JUST AROUND THE- Ahem. Sorry. No more Pochahontas songs, I promise.)
Shannon knocked on a door one final time and a light blue rhino opened. "Hey, you the new villager?"
"Yes I am," Shannon said. "My name is Shannon. I'm here to deliver you a package from Nook's!"
Biskit high-fived Tank. "Hey, dawg, what's up! Hey can you answer me something?"
Tank said, "Sure, buddy, what is it?"
Biskit motioned for him to come closer. He leaned in to whisper in his ear, and then loudly shouted, "WHAT COULD YOU HAVE POSSIBLY ORDERED THAT WEIGHED SO MUCH?!"
"GAHH!" Tank exclaimed, jumping backwards and clinging to Shannon's arm. "WAHH, SHANNON, BISKIT'S BEING MEAN TO ME!"
Mitzi told the dog, "Now Biskit, it's not polite to scream in a friend's ear."
While Tank was fake-crying, Biskit was fake-arguing, and Mitzi was fake-scolding, Shannon felt the great need to ask the question again. "Hey guys, what happened to Maple Bluffs?"
Everybody stopped and stared. Then they looked at one another.
Biskit sighed, "Well, she needs to know before it's too late."
Tank said, "She was going to find out really soon, anyways."
"It's forbidden to really say it," Mitzi finished. "But we need to explain everything to you." And that's chapter 3! Sorry if there's any mistakes, I didn't have time to spellcheck

I'm not sure how long the story will be, but I think I'll stick with this 'til the end 
when are you posting chapter 3?
