As you all know, Facebook features a key component in every social-networker's life; a status. It lets people know if you're having a good day or a bad one, if you're going on holidays, if you need help on a website or videogame. It helps you let people know of important things instead of sending whole messages to a huge group of people. I'm sure you've already guessed what I'm getting at; statuses on ACC.

If you're going on a holiday and don't have time to tell everyone, you could simply update your status. That way, you don't have to worry about anyone wondering where you were, they could simply look at your profile and find out. You could use your status for anything you like, personal stuff, daily stuff, jokes, anything! You could let people know if your gates are open, if you need some help in your AC game, or even for advertising an RPG. That way, people would find out these things whenever they look at your profile.

Some of you may argue that it's just another things that staff need to moderate, but think of it this way. I, personally, have never seen a profile that violates a rule. Ever. If the likelihood of someone violating a rule on their profile is that low, then why worry about what the statuses will do?

Another argument is that the statuses will be irrelevant, that they're just filled with personal information that nobody cares about. But, what about just the average profile? People look at other members' profiles to find out useless irrelevant personal information about others. So why would statuses be any different?

Now that I've introduced the idea, I'd love to hear your opinions. Be honest, I need to know what you think so I can improve the idea as time goes on.

I think signatures can act as a status just fine, but I do like the idea.

We have an option on our profile for when we go away. Also we can use our signature lines for status.

I agree, but I have not met one person who changes their signature to tell others something important. Most people have their status something permanent, something like keyboard art or markup that they would NOT want to get rid of. If they had a status, they could easily change that instead and keep their signature.

ACC is not a social-networking site though and there are already so many ways to express the things you have mentioned in a different manner, so I really don't think that it is needed.

That's true, it is not a social networking site, but it is very social. Members should be able to warn others when they will not be on ACC, or share on their status when they need help with their game instead of having to send one huge message to everyone they know. A signature or profile can easily do that. Another section would make it be too directed to a social networking site, which ACC does NOT want to become. It would be also another thing to moderate, Quote: "I, personally, have never seen a profile that violates a rule. Ever".  Even though you have not seen a bad profile, I and many others have seen a few profiles that violate rules. It would be a added thing to moderate, which would get way out of hand. So I do not agree with this.

That's true, and you have both given me a new way to look at this. But I would like to hear from some staff or SIC to see what they think as well.

True, but I know, personally, that my profile is completely filled to the top of my 8000 character limit. I cannot put anything else there. So, when I left on a two week holiday, I got tons of PTs asking me, "Where the heck were you?" because I hadn't remembered to send a message to absolutely everyone. I couldn't change my signature, my friends and I decided that it was an inside joke that had to stay. I set my profile "Away" section to away, but obviously, nobody noticed considering they all sent me questioning PTs. If I had a status, I could let others know right away if I was leaving.

But you both have a point, it would be more of an extra than a necessity. Which makes me think, maybe it could be sold in the Bell Shop/Store. It could be a certain amount of Bells a week to have a status, so it wouldn't be something that every member had at all times. That way, say that you're going on a two week holiday. You could spend 20,000 Bells and get a status warning others that you're leaving.

I'm unsure about this. I mean, like others have said, you can just put it in your signature or use your away dates for the cause you said. You may have thought your signature had to stay, but I don't think that is the case for most people.

Although this is a nice idea, I think it's bending too much towards a social networking site and is not really necessary.

I think everyone else is right about just utilizing your signature. Your argument has no solid base. If something is important, and you want everyone to know, just use your signature. I don't think they need to add statuses just because some people don't want to use their signature.

It seems very... what's the word... opinionated? Kind of... Well, let's just say it matters on your opinion on the matter of simply changing your signature.

There are much easier ways to do all the things you listed than adding a whole new feature which needs to be worked on, and even moderated. I think the Staff would want to try to keep that stuff to a minimum.

It's a sad day when a "Status" window is a "key component" in anyone's life.

That aside, ACC doesn't need social networking tools. Why not just link to your Myspace, or whatever the popular site is this month?

I like this a lot! Right under where it says "last active" it could say status and you can choose your ststus!
