I've been playing ever since the game came out and I just caught my one and only petaltail two days ago. I didn't think I had ever seen one but I did know that I had a lot of dragonflies near the sea. I went down to the sea late one afternoon, had my net ready and just stood behind a sign and waited. The insect landed on the sign and I snagged him. I knew he wasn't a darner or banded dragonfly when he landed on the sign because his body had a little bend in it and the darner and banded dragonflies have straight bodies.
Patience is necessary to catch one this way. Good luck!

I agree with Rob. With my self character, last year I caught mine with help on here on a rock in a flower field. I'm trying this year with my Stor-Age character and have went back to that theory. I seen three this month. One landed on a sign and I missed him, then a few seconds later he came back and landed on a rock and I missed again.

I got a petaltail and didn't even have to catch it! One of my townies wanted to trade me a petaltail for something I had in my pockets (forgot now what it was, but some other bug). You better believe I traded! I could not catch that thing no matter how hard I tried, so I was happy to trade!

So here's a quesiton for you guys... I hope I can explain myself clearly enough lol. I've seen 3 petaltails now, and one I just missed but the other two have been kind of above me, or like towards the top of my town. When i turn to get them I can't see any sign of them. I some times can't tell where exactly balloons and such are after I spot them and this seems to be the same for these petaltails. Does anyone have any tips on I guess it would be the depth perception of the town, or which way the petaltails usually go? I know they are probably random, but if anyone has any tips i'd appriciate them! Thank you! Happy Hunting.

I FINALLY caught mine tonight!! (5:53pm) I had seen a few before and they always seemed to land on a sign, but I was too clumsy and slow to catch one. Tonight I lined myself up with a sign (so that I was behind it) and waited. Sounds fun right, haha. I literally didn't move for almost an hour! Just when I was thinking it was a really stupid idea the giant petaltail landed on the sign, I swung and BAM, GOTCHA!! Feels great, and now my bug collection is complete!

I've seen 4 of them now. I've gotten one swing with my net. They are FAST. But the thing that confuses me is, they seem too high to catch. Do you need to wait for them to fly lower? Or is it just my position in relation to the bug?

Annie and Lucy, the Petaltail flies very high and fast. You can use your up button to look higher and try to track them. You can also run in the direction it took off in and check rocks and signs in the area. I needed help getting my first from a friend but tonight I caught another one by sheer luck. They even elude the pros.
Flowers are my favorite things in all of Graypoo!
Then the townies! I love Tom!
I saw my first one today, and it zipped off before I could even get my net equipped! I looked all over town and finally gave up... It's quite elusive... Maybe tomorrow evening I'll spend it sitting in front of my TV with a glass of Iced Tea and my AC character standing next to a sign and a rock!
