^ Oh yeah--should've been more specific. The villagers will always use certain roof colour which is either 1, 2 or 3. So yup, Bob would have the teal coloured roof if he has the barn house, and pink roof if he has the colored cabana house, and green roof if he has stone house etc.
So here's a question which I don't know can be answered or not. Since villagers do seem to be connected with certain house styles and roof colors, are there certain villagers who can never move into a particular town because of the specific house style and roof colors that town is limited to?
Eero made a guide for each animal's house shape, but I think the thread he posted it on was archieved. All I really remember is the houses of villagers I've had in my towns, and a few of my favorite neighbors. The house shape does vary by neighbor.
"I believe Eero explained that they will choose one over the other for all house styles. So, no."
@ Bones5678, that part I understand. What seems to be the wild card is the roof color. If Bob can only move into a Barn style house that has a teal roof or a pink Cabana style house that has a brown roof, etc., etc. - what happens if your town has the Barn and Cabana style houses but no teal or brown roofs? Would Bob be prohibited from moving into this town?

No, he wouldn't be prohibited. He would simply bring the teal color with him. See if you don't have any teal colored roofs on your barn houses, it's just because you still haven't gotten any villagers that have this color assigned to them.
I've been trying to keep a list of villagers and their house materials, but it's very incomplete right now.
@Euro - Yes, thank you, that answered my question. I was only wondering because both of my towns always have the same two roof colors for each house style no matter who moves in. The roof colors never seem to change. So I was assuming the number of roof colors was limited just like the number of house styles is limited.

You should start another thread at some point. People can help you fill in the blanks.
"Bones5678 - Well, my dream town would have Barn and Cabin. But I'm American... so Barn and Stone."
I love the cabins too! Too bad they're not available in the US. My dream town would have Planked and Stone houses. But Barn is a close third. I really miss the Planked houses from my last town.
Hello there! After a lot of hard work and help from other ACC users, I’ve finally finished this guide. Villagers play a big role in the game (after all, it’s Animal Crossing! ) and their houses are always there. This guide provides picture of every style of house, every roof color, and every extra feature, so you can know what to look for. To view a photo, simply click on the titles of house styles. (WARNING: Pictures will open in your current tab!)
So anyway, Thank you so much for viewing!
Part One: OK, what are Villager House Styles? Glad you asked! Surely you’ve noticed your villager’s houses (If not, something is terribly wrong…), and if you’re observant, maybe you noticed that your town has two overall styles. ‘Style’ pretty much means what it’s made of, like stone or logs, or what theme it follows, such as a barn house or a cabana house. Anyway, let's get down to business!
Part Two: The Styles Themselves
Stone Houses These adorable cottages are crafted of stone. They will always feature blue doors. Available in all regions.
Barn House Barn houses have a country charm, very appropriate for AC:CF. Available in all regions.
Planked Houses Plank houses have a tropical feel, especially if they feature a dome. Available in all regions.
Pink Cabana Houses These houses are made of wood, and features pink trim around the window and a cotton-candy pink door. Available in North America.
Colored Cabana HousePhoto taken by emilywh This house, as well, has an airy, tropical look. Diagonal colorful planks create a sunburst pattern. Available in North America.
Log CabinsPhoto taken by Eero Who doesn't love the cozy, classic look of a log cabin? Available in Europe.
Brick House Photo taken by Eero Brick houses are classic and charming. Available in Europe.
PagodaPhoto taken by Eero It isn't hard to imagine where these are available... Available in Asia.
Wood HousePhoto taken by Eero These homes are relaxed yet refined, cozy, yet roomy. Available in Asia.
Part Three: RoofsPhotos taken by Eero, TheStickMaster, and me. One very interesting thing about houses are the roofs. Since I got the game in December, when the snow melted, I was delighted with the colorful thatched roofs.
