We're in good for hybrids after a VERY tough last year.  We now have 3 blue roses and the black ones are fairly often now, maybe one or two a month.  

We re-set the flowers after a bit though and now we are NOT getting out Jacobs Ladder every day.   Working on that setup now.

Well thanks to this guide I started attempting to grow hybrids in my town. I started with red and white roses, 12 of each, and sold away all the other flowers around town. Luckily today I got two pink roses! I can't wait to get more and work my way up to blue roses

I did an experiment with the gold and silver can and the so-called hit range on both of them and I have to say I found absolutely no evidence of this.  I had a bed of nine flowers, 3X3 squared and only watered the center flower.  Within a couple of days, one of the outside flowers wilted.

I just wanted to point out that this has been passed around as fact for a long time and I just don't think there's any truth to it.  However, flowers can take a while before wilting which might've led some to believe that this hit range exists.

It should be tested on a bed of Jacob's ladders.  Those are the most sensitive flowers in the game that can and do wilt on an almost daily basis when not watered.  If not a single jacob's ladder wilts in a week or more just watering the center flower with a gold or silver watering can, then you'll have proof.  But I'm certain this is just a long-touted myth that needs to be put to rest.

If you skip a day watering you will get wilted flowers. the silver and gold cans water a 3x3 radius, but don't extend the time between waterings. I water every day. The only wilted flowers I get are the ones I missed  now.

I DID water every single day.  Every day I watered the center flower in the 3X3 bed.  There is no enlarged hit radius.  The silver can's only power is restoring wilted red turnips and the gold can's only power is to turn wilted black roses into golden roses.

Time to put this myth to rest.

Hi, everyone!  I just started playing again after a long haitus   I can't wait to get my hybrids up and going!  So far, I'm just collecting the random flowers around town so I can get them organized   I'll let you guys know how I get on    I've never had a blue rose & I REALLY want one!

Good luck with that. I'm getting more purple and black roses than blue roses.

I really want to try and get back into AC:CF and make some hybrids....my favorite part of the game.  I'll let you all know how it goes for me!

Got my first hybrid in my two week old CF town the other day: an orange rose! I found I was way more excited than I probably should have been, and I spent a few minutes watering it and admiring it before going about my day.

Today I got one black tulip, yesterday was better though, I got a purple rose, a purple tulip, a pink tulip and a pink cosmos.

As for the watering can thing I was suprised to read what it said in this thread, all the info I ever read before said

Normal Can:

X - Just the flower watered.

Silver Can:

_X_
XXX - The flower watered and one flower in each of the cardinal directions from that flower.
_X_

Gold Can:

XXX
XXX  - The flower watered plus every flower it touches in any direction.
XXX

Now I'm not saying this is fact but it's what I was always told, I don't ever remember hearing/reading that the silver can waters all 9 spaces...

Actually the Silver can covers the same area as the Gold can. And yes, it will cover a 9 square patch. I usually water to overlap, though, since I hate it when I see brown flowers unless I'm TTing. Then, I water only the brown flowers and all of my hybrids. When I stop and slow down, I water All of my flowers.

Oh, well I always use my silver can (black roses are much prettier than gold ones) and I always watered based off the idea that the Silver can just does a cross shape but I guess that's not a bad thing, it's quite easy to miss the square you intended to water occasionally.

Oh yeah and just to check, since I was wrong about the watering... rain in the city counts as it having rained in your town for flower watering and Gyroid spawns right?

Yes, but you need to take the bus back to your town. If you sign off while in the city, it doesn't count.

You also have to be in the city for a minimum of 4 minutes. I always stay there for at least 10 minuts just to be sure before taking the bus back to the town.

Catching weather reports daily for the following day's weather is a big help to flower lovers. You can see them on a game tv at 6:45AM, 7:45AM, 11:45AM, 6:45PM, and 10:45PM.

I am currently balancing 6 towns & breed hybrids in each & every one, so these weather reports are vital to me, lol!

Today I got a pink tulip and a black cosmos (and a Jacob's ladder, not a hybrid I know but it means my town is back to PTS after a short period of not being).

I've had a different experience. I can stay there for a minute or two and have it count. But if I let the Wii Remote lose connection to the system, it's all null and void. So if I leave it there while I'm out and it's snowing or raining and when I return it has stopped it won't be counted.

i agree about the black roses looking better than the gold ones i think they would look much better if only the actual flower had been gold instead of the stem and leaves too

lissa0780: That explains why my flowers were wilted today! It rained in my city... and I stayed there ages... and I returned to my town before saving. But I DID let the Wii remote go to sleep while I was there. How very odd... I wonder why it's like that?

pras: Yes! That would be better... I think if you have more than a few gold roses it looks a bit too much. I'm not a fan of gold stuff in general (I prefer white metals myself) but if it was just the flower it wouldn't look so gaudy. And black roses are really a quite pretty dark purple colour.

It's weird like that isn't it? At least with NL the city rain and snow taking effect will be a thing of the past. Although now we have the island and I don't know if it will rain there randomly or not. I guess we'll find out soon enough.  =o)
