Welcome to the 7th edition of CF: Hybrid discussion!
This thread is here for discussing all aspects of hybrid flowers in City Folk and Wild World versions of AC.
»» If you have questions about growing hybrids, this is a great place to ask, since many pros and enthusiasts post frequently.
»» Please tell us about the new hybrids you grow and the general hybrid/flower happenings around your town.
»» Posting photos is encouraged if you have any!
The rest of this post is my general guide for hybrid growing. I hope it is helpful for everyone!
Need to check up on species/color combos or how to make certain hybrids? Check ACC's AC:WW Hybrid Guide!Extra NotesCarnations will arrive in the mail for every character in your town on their respective holiday.
pink carnations = Mother's Day
red carnations = Father's Day
white carnations = Hybrid created from a red and pink carnation placed together.
Hybrid ArrangementThere are a variety of arrangements that work well for producing hybrid flowers. You may place your flowers in pairs of 2, groups of 3, or even big clusters of 8+. Hybrids can spawn from diagonal, horizontal, and vertical flower arrangements. For example (using

Watering can hit rangeThere are three types of watering cans.
»» The regular watering can is purchased from Tom Nook at his shop.
»» It is the basic watering can, and has a two-space hit range;

»» The silver watering can is earned from purchasing 50 bags of flower seeds from Tom Nook.
»» Posy Farms will send you the silver watering can in the mail.
»» Each character in town can earn a silver watering can.
It has the following hit range;

»» The gold watering can is earned from achieving PTS in your town.
»» Pelly at the Town Hall will give it to you after 15 days of maintaining PTS.

You can use any type of can when doing your daily flower watering. The silver or gold work great if you have more than one flower at a time to water.
Places to set your flowersYour town is full of potential spots to produce hybrids. The best way to find these is by moving pairs or groups around until nice "grow spots" are found. Hybrids can sprout from flowers out in an open area, or tucked away near edges or water. Some examples of grow spots worth trying include:
•
villager house corners•
near permanent buildings (museum, Able Sisters, etc.)•
on cliffs•
next to walls•
on the riverbankKeep in mind those are just a few examples. It is really worth trying all kind of spots to see where hybrids will grow best. Hybrids will still spawn happily when placed next to trees or rocks - they are
not going to be blocked or hindered in any way.
Do not feel restricted - there is no rule that says flowers should stay put in one place. However, a spot that produces a hybrid will produce another hybrid down the road. It may be the next day, or it may be in a few weeks, but more spawns will eventually show up.
Continued hybrid production from the same spot - or ANY spot in town - can be increased and encouraged when hybrid flowers pairs replace any regular flower pairs. This is because hybrid flower pairs very rarely produce a regular flower spawn. If they show activity, it will almost always be in the form of a new hybrid spawn.
Patience is very helpful when deciding if a flower pair should be moved. Generally, if a flower pair shows no spawns (regular or hybrid) after a week or two, it may be worth trying somewhere else.
Amount of flowers needed around townHybrid production is successful in numbers as low as 20, or as high as 100+. New hybrid spawns will readily appear in towns with a variety of species or just one species set up around town.
If all of your flower pairs are made up of hybrid flowers, you may very well see an increase in daily growth. Regular flower pairs are just as likely to produce a regular flower spawn or a hybrid flower spawn, whereas hybrid flower pairs produce more hybrids and very rarely spawn a regular flower. If you are having trouble producing a certain color or species of hybrid, try to eliminate any species or even colors outside of the desired hybrid spawn. For example - If you have a town with red rose pairs and white rose pairs set out and you find that you are growing lots of purple roses but no black roses, try replacing the white rose pairs with red rose pairs. When you add new flowers or remove flowers in your town, there can be "instant" results or impact. The following day you may see production has been hindered or improved depending on the changes made. Remember this when trying to find a good balance of flower amounts around town, and especially when you decide to re-arrange.
Keeping flowers healthy• Daily watering is very important for hybrid growth. Silver and gold watering cans are preferred since they can water more than one flower with each use (which is helpful for saving time and preventing accidental wilting). You do not need to water flowers on rainy days.
• Wilted flowers can be revived with any watering can. They will be refreshed/healthy the following day. (Do not forget that watering a wilted black rose with a golden watering can will produce a gold hybrid the next day.)
• Trash left on the ground may hinder or halt hybrid production. Try to keep your town clean for when the clock hits 6:00am the next day. It is the time when your town's status is taken into account, as well as when new hybrids will spawn for the day.
• If you are going to TT (time travel) more than a day or two, it is a good idea to set important flowers inside a house or somewhere safe. Going through days without watering will wilt or even 'kill' some flowers that are outside.
• Dandelions, dandelion puffs, and clovers are not harmful to PTS or flower/hybrid production. They can be picked or left outside - it is your choice.
Okay, I think that's it! Best of luck to everyone growing hybrids.
