I've seen a few threads discussing the poll for this week, so thought it best that we have one place where we an discuss it all.
The idea behind the poll is to find out, from a larger audience, if anyone finds those phrases offensive anymore. A few are used widely and are not considered to be that bad anymore. We wanted to get the views of more than just the staff on this one.

Well, In My Opinon, I Feel The C word is a highly offensive word to me stilll if it was used in the Wrong context, and for The "God" Words, I do not Find those offensive in my View.
So i Still think the C words are offensive in a lot of ways, But i think we should allow the "God" Words Just if no one uses them In a offensive matter.

I think the C word should be highly moderated if it is allowed, because if used in the wrong way, it can be very offensive. I personally don't mind it, but it seems a little strong for ACC. Of course, if we allowed it, most people would come to accept that it's okay.
But if we just wanted to express our opinion on something we didn't like, as long as it's not referring to any other ACC members, I think it would be fine.
Signature-------------- A life? Where can I download one of those?
I have to admit, I was pretty shocked when the first word I saw was the rap of c's. But seeing how it's not really a highly offensive word, I doubt many users will complain.
Signature-------------- Oh, crap! ACC removed some frickin' words from the filter!
Personally, I don't find any of those offensive. When I was much younger though, the last choice (aside from the 'none' choice) would have been offensive to me, and I'm sure many other younger users would feel the same. I have never really minded any of the other choices though.

The same applies to me. I'm predicting a general outcome of how the poll looks currently, proximity wise.

The 'c' word is a very mild word in my opinion, at least compared to other "swear" words. I would hesitate to even call it a swear; it's closer in offensiveness to "darn" I think. As for the other option, I don't find it offensive either, and I don't know anyone who does anymore.
It would be nice if the results of this poll led to a loosening of some of the strictness of the word filter. I've always felt it went a little too far in censoring some things.

I'm fine with the words, they don't offend me, but you have to look at the people who are offended. It's not fair on them if we unblock words that offend them (their religion ect).
Also, having them on the front page of a supposedly family friendly website, in my opinion, wasn't the best idea.

The first 4, i'm totally fine with, i say em all the time in real life, but I nkow some people can be offended by them. the c word.. well im growing up and maybe a couple years ago I woulda said ' OOOOh you said the c wooord!' but now i'm getting used to it. My friends are starting to say it a lot, being that i'm a grade ahead of what i'm supposed to be in, but I still flinch a little at the sound of it.

...I think there are other rules that need to be relaxed before this.
The first lot about oh my god... Don't allow them. No matter what the majority thinks, there WILL be people offended by it. It's a religious topic, some religious people find it very offensive, and will complain.
Allowing it will just lead to flame wars and arguments. Bad idea, ACC.
As for the 'c word'... Why is it needed on an AC website? Just use other words for it. It's not a word that's polite to use in everyday discussion, it'll just annoy me seeing everyone use it. It's not needed.
But if you're gonna relax rules, then get rid of the filters for face book and t witter and stuff.
And also, remake the fanfic rules. Don't allow people to spam with the c word everywhere while we still can't use even the slightest bit of romance 9/10 humans on this planet see in fairy tale, childrens stories.

I am fine with all of them. With the c one, how is it bad at all? I think it is fine. Most words can be used in a bad way, which is why we have the offensive content and flaming rules.
With the people who are offended, they are offended because of religion. If we do not allow religion things on the site why do we ban things that are bad for certain religions?
I am in a religion where you shouldn't use the words with God in them, but when others use them I don't think it is the end of the world. And some of them you can use in ways that are good. In some religion I think there is even a prayer that says one of those things.
And why can the admins put words on the homepage that we can't use anywhere on the site?
Next week we should do it with social networking sites.

Of course a few people will be offended by the words, but it's impossible to make everyone happy. No matter what you do, some people will find something to be offended about. The line needs to be drawn somewhere between the words most everyone find offensive and the words that only a small portion of people get uppity about. If ACC tried to block everything that anyone ever found offensive, the community wouldn't be able to function.

And besides, compared to the Hundred Thousand members ACC has, very Few People (In comparison to that) Actually vote in Polls, so this would be Inaccurate.
Why not have a Thing, where you HAVE To awnser the Polls, each time you Log In, Like the TOS/C/Whatever-it's-called a while back?

No-one will be offended by banning the words. It's not as if saying the c word is part of any major religion, and same with o m g.
A large amount of the population are religious, and it doesnt matter how many people arent. There are still lots. No, ACC can't make everyone happy, but it's no big deal being unable to say the two words/phrases at question.

The thing about the polls though, is that only the more active members are likely to answer, and these are the people it would affect the most. ACC does have several thousand members, but probably only a few thousand active members. Many of them either don't visit the site anymore or have been banned, or they may not even use the forums.

I think it would be a good idea for the poll to pop up in the center, disabling anything else to be done on that tab, until the poll was taken. It doesn't do any harm to take a poll.

It is the completely wrong decision to allow them! No-one's gonna leave if you're not allowed to swear about God on here, or say some impolite word.
But I bet you any money, that some extremely religious people will leave from the amount of times people say it here. Sure, I don't see the point of them leaving for it, but there will be someone.
I have better things to read than 'O MG, LOOK WHAT I SAW TODAY!' 'O MG, you're right!', 'O MG, this story is amazing!', 'O MG, lol! ' And whatever else people might use it for.
Just why do we need it? Someone answer that. Give me some good reasons why ACC should allow it, because there will be no important impact on disallowing, but allowing it... just... No.

There actually have been people I know that left because the language filter was far too strict. It angers them that they can't say mildly-offensive words.
I think all those words/phrases are approximate. I've heard all the words/phrases in some children's shows and it's become more mainstream now that time has passed. Yes, a few people will be offended, but not everyone can be pleases. Clearly the majority of poll voters see no issue, meaning you would be pleasing the majority. With the change in times the idea of "swear words" has changed. Long ago I hadn't even hard the c-word, but now I've heard my two-year-old cousin say it. Perhaps before it was found offensive, but now it has become more of an expression in the same category as "darn". As for the words that refer to God, it's used so commonly those offended by it would not be able to escape it, so they must tolerate it in order to get through everyday life.

This isn't everyday life. This is a website for people to talk about Animal Crossing. Why do we need to say them?
It just brings me back to being unable to see the point. The poll asks if it offends you. It doesn't mean everyone who voted no it doesn't is saying they want them to be allowed. It's not a very good poll to ask what its intention was, anyway.
There are many rules that are too strict here, and a few of them are there because this is an Animal Crossing site, like not being allowed to post your own, original fan-fics, but only AC ones.
You don't find these words in AC. I repeat again, it's NEEDLESSLY bringing up controversial, religious things. Needlessly.
