I have Cable,and I have an internet router. It has to be plugged in,but can I use it? Or do I have to buy something from Nintendo?

You should be able to connect to it if it is a wireless router.

I know. It has to be plugged in,though. Can I use it? Its what came with our computer when we switched to Verizon FIOS.

a wireless router does connect to 3 things to provide wireless service: Modem(may be integrated), wired computers, and power. a wireless router refers to a device that allow other devices a Internet connection.
this is the back of a typical wireless router, WAN is to the modem, lan ports to wired computers, and power is self-explanatory.
