Hello! This is my 2nd fanfic, and I'm very excited to present it. Yesterday, I took 10th place in Computerfan's competition with my first fanfic, Skin and Bones! It was a joy to write, but it wasn't necessarily the best I could do. I'm hoping with this fic I can pour tons of emotion, themes, and other literary elements. I'm hoping I'll get just a few tears on your keyboards by the end of this fic, and I hope you will all help me on this ride that is writing a fanfic! I also encourage anyone who gets inspiration while reading (it happened several times during Skin and Bones, and I thought up Skin and Bones after reading a simliar story), feel free to write your own fic! I really don't care about the whole "fic copyright" stuff, if you have an idea similar to mine, go ahead!
I will be updating my story every Sunday, with one chapter most weeks. Please don't hound me about it constantly though, but I will have a TON more free time this winter.
Please keep in mind, this ENTIRE FIC is an allegory; everything that happens in this fic represents something else (Hint: If anyone has read Lord of the Flies, this is similar. Avery's flight is a metaphor for life, and there are COUNTLESS other symbols that I will fill this fic with.) As you're reading, try to think of how this applies to your own life.

Prologue
The world isn’t changeable, right? Of course not, everyone knows that. With 6.7 billion people on the world, countless more animals, there is no possible way that one animal, plant, fungus, protist, or bacterium can make a difference.
Or is there?
Could the world, in fact, be changed for the better by just one being? ‘Of course not,’ many of you respond. And you probably think you are right.
But are you?
Are you here on this planet just to watch the world as a spectator? Cheer on those who are entertaining you, heckle the ones who aren’t? Or to change it, make a lasting difference for the better?
Is it even worth making things better for others? If it won’t affect you directly, it doesn’t matter. That’s the logic some have, and it is faulty. ‘Everyone’s gonna die eventually, so what good will it do?’
As Avery began his flight into the world, he scoffed at all of the people attempting to fix the world. ‘It’s damaged beyond repair’, he grumbled.
But he may just be beginning a flight that will change the world.
Could he? Or will he fly home, leaving the world the same, as if he had never even taken off?
Avery stepped out of his house, feet apart, wings spread. He jumped into the air, and took flight, expecting to come back the same as usual. But Avery may just be beginning a flight that will change the world…for the better.
One would think that we need to take a look at the world from afar, so we can see what our world has really come to.
The best way to do this would be to take a look at things…

"Wow! Pierce really has changed the world today! He has officially built his 14th orphanage, and has contributed millions of bells to Boondox! If it were up to me, he would receive the Tortimer Peace Prize this year for all of his charity-work! Pierce was first inspired when-" The television flickered off. Avery put down the remote he had just used, and belly ached to himself.
Stupid Pierce... Avery grumbled. It's not like it will make a difference. The world's damaged beyond repair anyways...
As he sat up in bed, he reflected upon his most recent call from his irksome mother, Amelia. She was forcing him to get out of the house and go visit her, or she would stop paying his rent. Avery figured that it was better to have money and have to visit his annoying mother than go without a house.
He crawled out of bed, where he had been watching TV for the last three hours. "It's time for you to get out of the house and do something with your life for once!" he imitated, mockingly. Man...this visit better not take too long...
He stepped out of his house for the first time that week. I hate daylight... Avery whined. He extended his wings, spread his feet, took three steps (Left, right, left... he mumbled, almost forgetting how to take off; it had been months since his last flight), and was up in the air.
Flap, flap, flap. His enormous wingspan made a very loud disturbance that stirred up the wind. He looked down, at all of the wretched, stupid people and animals of Earth. Just look at them..., he muttered. A small bear named Poncho was crying because a bee landed on his ice cream cone. Disgusting.
He swooped down, knocked Poncho's ice cream right out of his hand, and flew up even more quickly than he came down. The bear looked up, looked at his ice cream that had fallen to the ground, and bawled as a bee stung his right arm. As Avery flew further towards his mother's house, he grumble to himself, "Kids these days...boy, do I really hate kids."
Avery turned and left Poncho in the dust, moving on to see what other disgraces the Animal kingdom had produced.

Pascal picked up his last seashell. “Finally!” he screamed out loud. “I have collected 5 of every shell that exists!” He was overjoyed, so happy that tears were streaming down his face. He peeked into his bag.
5 gleaming pearls shone in his bag. Pascal beamed with pride. And I found them all! he giggled.
Just then, a large bird began flying overhead. He had bags under his eyes, sharp claws, and a look of hatred in his eyes as he looked down. His fur gave off a pewter shade, as did his personality. The piercing, menacing eyes of the hawk met the big brown eyes of the otter.
“NO!” Pascal cried. Avery was enjoyed himself, laughing in his head. Not even a smile, however, crossed his face on the outside, as he never showed positive emotions. He emptied the bag, picking up the pink and white shells that were Pascal’s pride and joy. Crushing them in his hands, an entire life’s work became mere shards of what used to be. Pascal fell to his knees, put his fists to the sky, and wept as the pieces of his collection were scattered into the ocean.
Avery laughed silently again, enjoying Pascal’s suffering. Though he was not even halfway to his mother’s house, he had already made two people upset. Avery took joy in that. It was the only thing that made him happy.
He then remembered why he was on his flight; his inner laughter came to an abrupt end when he thought of his nagging, obnoxious mother. Avery continued his flight, releasing a glob of spit down at the red, sobbing otter, leaving Poncho and Pascal in the dust of his past.

I can't stand when fics have endlessly long chapters...but this last chapter looks WAY too short XD If i ever do a rewrite i will make it longer. I'll make future chapters a little longer, but not TOO much longer haha.

Avery continued his flight. Darn, he thought. Mom said to go pick up a watering can for her. Better stop at Nook’s. Nookington’s appear in the horizon. He dove, and landed at the door.
The sliding doors opened to him, and he entered the building that was Tom Nook’s purpose in this world.
“Hello, how may I-” Nook began, but was interrupted before he could finish the sentence.
“Get me a watering can, rat.”
Tom was appalled. “I don’t have to sell to you, hmm!”
“I’m a paying customer, and you’re gonna take my money whether you like it or not! My annoying mother wants a watering can, and you’re gonna get me one!”
Nook turned bright red. “Hmm… get out of my shop, yes, yes! I don’t sell to hooligans!” he forced out. Nook hated being rude, but it had to be done in a case like this. Avery was so infuriating!
“You listen! Who’s higher on the food chain here? I could RIP. YOU. TO. SHREADS.”
“Security!” Nook screamed into a walkie-talkie. Avery began closing in on Nook, demanding that he got his mother’s watering can. Just then, Copper ran through the door. “Good day, Avery!” he said cheerfully. Copper had already seen Avery many times; he was like this all the time. At least, when he wasn’t cooped up in his house all day.
“Officer, I’m not leaving until I have my watering can.”
“Sorry, but if you break the law, you don’t get those privileges. I’m gonna ask you to place your claws where I can see them.”
Avery swung a fist at Copper. The officer caught it, threw handcuffs around his wings, and walked him outside the shop.
“What were you thinking back there?” Copper seemed to have a quality that Avery did not. Sincerity.
“I….why…I just needed a-”
“Don’t you realize other people have needs too?”
“Well…I had never really thought-”
“Don’t even finish that sentence. Your kind disgusts me. Don’t you want to accomplish anything for others on this flight of yours? Don’t answer. I mean it. You’ll just come up with another suck up answer that I really don’t have time for right now. Good day to you sir, and remember what I said.” Copper headed back out to patrol the area, leaving Avery in a shadow of what appeared to be confusion. The remembrance of his mother waiting for him at the end of his journey made him block out the message Copper had just given to him. If only he would have listened…
Avery continued, without a watering can, on his flight to his mothers. He didn’t care a bit that he let her down; felt no shame whatsoever, and continued without a single thought of the matter.
