Is it just me or is the spelling on this site quite horrendous? Perhaps I'm too much of a perfectionist but it makes me a bit sick to see the spelling and grammar on here. It's painful on my eyeballs to see "ene1 wonna play plzzzzzz". I know it's the internet but have we gotten so lazy that we can't take the few extra seconds to spell correctly? Am I alone in this?

When I see that, I mostly just assume that not all of the "grownup gamers" are quite completely grown up!
However, I just got an email from my sister. She's been teaching sixth grade for about 15 years. Her message had so many misspellings in it that I could hardly figure out what it said. She blamed it on using her thumbs to type on her BlackBerry.
So I suggest that maybe, that's the problem: those misspelled messages you see were all typed using thumbs, only!

That's quite a possibility! I don't mind when people say "lol" or "g2g", but I choose not to. I'm a teacher's assistant, it goes against mostly all I know! It does annoy me, though, when a message is so full of chatspeak, I can hardly understand it.
i miss spell a lot. But in my and most gamers defense, we do not spend a lot of time worrying how to spell. most of us are just worried about ..err this guy wont dye..or how do i bet this level or .. why wont these stupid hybrids grow.. ty

Chatspeak annoys me, along with lack of proper spelling and grammar. Just because we're on the Internet doesn't mean that the rules of English (or any language, for that matter) don't apply. As a general rule of thumb, if you wouldn't type an essay like that, don't type on the Internet like that. Not only is it difficult to read, but it can also imply a lack of maturity.
It's probably because the majority of members on this site are younger, and since might be their first forum, they don't know proper forum etiquette yet. Their main concern is probably meeting new people to play AC with, and not getting into discussions on the boards. It's something that comes with time and maturity, I think.

It drives me up the wall to see "chatspeak" or whatever those hideous words are called. I won't even use it when I am texting because it just isn't right. But it just kills me that this website offers spell check for every word that is typed and people don't want to use it.

Ok, can some one give me some examples of chat speak? Is LOL one? Because I will use that frequently, probably guilty of over use. But other than that I pretty much spell everything out.
My grammar is horrible, but I'm a swede so I get away with it! : D *laugh*
Anyway, I think it's really bad when you who have english as your first language write things like "gunna eet a lots of pii tis hollyday". It makes me wonder why we even learn english in school when we could learn gibberish instead.
Here on the GG board I don't see much of it though. I guess it's an age issue and this website is mainly for younger players, and that's because it's so common with misspellings and those horrific gramatical errors.

When I read bad grammar or spelling on here, I just assume that the person just doesn't know any better or that they were using a device with a bad keyboard.
But...when people create posts similar to the OPs' example, that is very annoying. I am glad there isn't much of that here in the GG forum.
It drives me BONKERS!! I don't even use chatspeak when I text. I feel like I need a translator to read a lot of posts/threads on here. I often find myself having to resist the urge to go around correcting people's spelling/grammar. When I get PT's or responses to threads with the hideous chatspeak, I promptly ignore it. Sad to see such a desecration of the English Language!
