You get random ones programmed into the games you don't need wi-fi for.

But if you go in tag mode and have wi-fi you may get one.

but then how do my friends and i get letters about michael jackson (probably spelled michael wrong...) being dead?

I'm yet another person that's gotten the Heather Smith one. I've also gotten one from the invisible police looking for the invisible man driving the invisible car.

I got a general note in a bottle, not through tag mode, just regular bottle mail, and it was basically, a suicide note, my son got the same one as well, and that's exactly what it looked like... bad mistake adding THAT one in there Nintendo.

It said something to the effect of.. "Farewell, hope you remember me when I'm gone".. and something else that pointed to suicide.

i got like two dear some stranger notes and i dont have wifi or tag mode...

Most of mine start with "Dear some Stranger", and it's NOT a real person, as I don't connect to any other DS's besides my sons... and I don't connect to WI at all.
