A few weeks ago I had the Pikachu Hat in my Ables. Thankfully, I knew it was HDLC and didn't dare buy it. So, will the Cat Cap will circulate from now on? I won't see the Pikachu Hat again?

brittanydill - In my experience both still pop up from time to time. Treat the HDLC items that pop up in stores the same way as a regular item you don't like/want. Don't buy it

What do you mean by "both still pop up from time to time" - the Pikachu Hat and the Cat Cap? I thought that wasn't possible, since the Pikachu Hat = hacked Cat Cap

Sorry, I'm obviously unknowledgable about the subject I just want to know if I'll still see the Pikachu Hat even though I didn't buy it... the part of the guide I bq'd made it sound like I wouldn't, and I thought then perhaps the Cat Cap would come back into Able's.

No worries brittanydill. Even if the Pikachu Hat is for sale at Able's, the Cat Cap will still show up at Able's. Although not at the same time. They are 2 separate items so it doesn't really matter that the Pikachu Hat is a modified version of the Cat one. This goes for all of the other HDLCitems also. Although I've never seen the shiny blue pikmin hat on sale, I'm going to assume because it is an OHDLC and not a HDLC but I don't know if that's a fact.

There are rumors that if you buy the hacked item they won't reappear, in my experience that is not true. Buying the item will just make it show up in your character's catalog. I think that is one of the things that cant really be 100% proved. There was a thread on here the other day where someone has been playing CF for years and they haven't ever seen a throne on sale at Nook's. The same can be said about the Cat Cap even though the Pikachu Hat was on sale before it. I hope this helps!

Ah, I see now. I thought that the Pikachu Hat replaced the Cat Cap, and that the Pikachu Hat would appear in Able's, voiding out the chance of the Cat Cap making an appearance... Thank you for your help!

Just to add more information on this (from my experience creating HDLC):

1. HDLC could be created by copying the item information from either a DLC or a built-in item. This item information sets the behavior of such a HDLC item in the game playing.

2. If the creator of HDLC did not change the content of such item information for the HDLC, then you could expect this HDLC will behave similarly to the source item (either it is a DLC or a built-in item).

Therefore, if the shiny blue pikmin hat HDLC was created by copying the item information of the red pikmin hat (a DLC) then this shiny blue pikmin hat HDLC behaves similarly like the red pikmin hat. And since a hat DLC cannot show up in the Able shop, then this shiny blue pikmin hat does not show up in the Able shop.

Now in other case, if the pikachu hat HDLC was created by copying the item information of the cat cap (a built-in item) then this pikachu hat HLDC behaves similarly like the cat cap. And since a cap built-in item could show up in the Able shop, then this pikachu hat could also show up in the Able shop.

Is it possible that villagers can give you HDLC as a reward for helping them? [EX: Delivering something to someone else.] I delivered something for Tabby, and she gave me a RedDemonMskHDLC as my reward.

I was very upset, because I had gone quite a long time without getting HDLC, including in my Able's. I didn't want to reset, though, because I did a lot of other things I just couldn't reset on.

PrincessLuna - Yep! It's possible. It's possible to get them from Wisp also. Try not to get too upset about it...
