%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%"Process for Submitting Guides" Guide%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%Made by aldericonIf you have ever been on any of the Animal Crossing General boards (
AC:CF,
AC:WW or
AC:GC), you would have noticed at the top of the board different threads with the "locked" symbol next to it (threads you can't post in), or even threads with a little yellow note symbol next to them (threads that will always be at the top of all threads). Most, if not all of these threads, are Guides.
Now, what exactly are Guides? Relating to the topic of Animal Crossing, each of these guides help you in the game (or, on other boards, with the site itself) with a certain subject (for example, the
AC:CF Bug Guide or
The (AC:CF) Wisp Guide). Remember, guides have to be about ACC or about Animal Crossing, not any other games. This thread is here to help you to know exactly how to go about making a guide (a checklist for it), and how to get it into an "Official" ACC Guide.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%• • • •%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%How to Make a Good Guide• First off, check all the boards on ACC to make sure that the guide that you're going to start writing hasn't been done already (if it has, and you check and there is information in that guide that is missing, simply contact
aldericon, an SIC member, or a mod/admin).
• If the guide hasn't been created, great! You can start making it! Gather all the information on the subject, and write it out.
Note: Please DO NOT directly copy from another website and then try to claim it off as your own. We check all the information, and if it's
directly copied, we will not accept it.
• After you're finished writing it, check it over. Ask a friend to read it over for mistakes! As well, if you used any outside resources (another website, a book, etc), clearly state that somewhere in your guide. Give credit where credit is due. Make sure all your information is as accurate to your knowledge as possible.
• Now, what I do for all the guides I write, after I've written down all the information, I open up a separate tab with the
Markup Magic: a Guide to Markup. It lists all the special mark-up things that you can do, and you can make your guide as colorful and creative as you like.
Note: Don't overdue your mark-up, however, as you could be reported for Overuse of Mark-Up.
• Now, if you look at the top of this post, you'll see I always add the title of the guide, and underneath by name, in not only this guide, but all guides that I write. This is because that sometimes, I'm not always the person to post them on the site. You are free to, or not to, add this to your guide.
• There is one more thing that you can add to your guide, and that's images. Admins have the ability to post posts with special mark-up that makes it so images appear (for example, the
AC:CF Fish Guide). If you'd like, you can include images that makes it easier to explain your guide. You're name will be included at the top of the guide, and all credit will be given to you.
However, an admin will have to post it.
Note: You do not need images in your guide to make it into a guide.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%• • • •%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%How to Get an "Official" ACC Guide• First, make sure that you used the guidelines above to make your guide. Guides will not be accepted if there is really bad spelling/grammar, or if there is not enough information on the subject, etc.
• Now, there are several ways to get a Guide stickied:
1) Post your guide on the appropriate board. Then go to the top right corner and click "Report a Problem", click the title, report it as an "Other" violation, and explain why you think that should be stickied. A mod/admin will then see it, and if they think it is good enough to be stickied, they will ask other staff members if it should. If enough (usually it only takes a couple) people say yes, a mod/admin will sticky the thread.
2) Post your guide on the appropriate board. Then contact a staff member about it getting stickied (and explain why you think so). A mod/admin will then see it, and if they think it is good enough to be stickied, they will ask other staff members if it should. If enough (usually it only takes a couple) people say yes, a mod/admin will sticky the thread.
3) Contact any SIC member (or me,
aldericon) about getting it stickied, and why you think it should be. If they think it should, they will post it on the SIC board, and discuss with the rest of the SIC (as well as any staff member who wants to give their opinion) about getting it stickied. If enough (usually it only takes a couple) people say yes, a mod/admin will sticky the thread.
• The best thing to do would be to contact an SIC member (or me,
aldericon) about getting it stickied, as mod/admins tend to be a bit busy with other site things (ex. User Tickets), and it is the SIC's job to take care of guides.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%• • • •That, in a nutshell, is how to get a properly made guide onto the site. Remember, you can still make guides yourself and post them; you don't have to get them stickied. If you have any questions, contact me (
aldericon).
