I think I saw another Petaltail yesterday. We had a good chase going until I fell into a pitfall and lost 'em.

I have more luck finding and catching tarantulas and scorpions since catching my firsts. It's probably because I am not looking for them. The Giant Petaltail is really getting on my nerves. I have looked all over and only seen it once or twice. I read that if you see one, as long as you don't go indoors, it will still be in your town. But I ran around and couldn't find it again

It IS in fact possible to catch a turantula/scorpion over a cliff. You have to step back slightly. I have seen it done, but a while back. And I have been going at the bee ever since I started a new town(4 days ago) and I was stung 5 times in about 15 minutes today! Twas a painful experience!!!

Thats how my brother got his Tarantula. He tried it with a scorpion, and claims that it ran UP the cliff and attacked him. O_o

I don't see why everyone thinks it's hard to catch the petaltail. I caught three in the course of an hour.

"I don't see why everyone thinks it's hard to catch the petaltail." I guess everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. I feel the same way about the Bee as you do the Petaltail.

Can bee hives come out of trees if you shake fruit from then, THEN shake it again to try to get bees?

Ok...are there a limit to how many bees you can encounter each day?

IMO i find it easier to catch bees by running to the left or right and then south. it seems to take longer because they turn and then you can see them coming at you.

I also managed to see two tarantulas last night, after several nights of spotting zero, despite creeping around town with and without a net during "prime" hours - both suicidal and dipping their toes in the surf when I spotted them (followed immediately by feeding themselves to the sharks).
I haven't seen a scorpion in weeks (and that only with a secondary character I'd just started, who had no net, but chased it around to see what it would do).
And yesterday at 5:47pm, after clearing space to chase dragonflies the day before: exactly zero were spawned in my town (the day before, there must have been dozens). So, even that trick doesn't work every time.
Bees make all of these look easy - after all, I can guarantee I can find them in no time at all, several a day (3 to 5, with the number of fruitless trees I have to shake). I have yet to see a Petaltail and all of my scorpions have apparently succumbed to the same malaise now infecting the tarantulas. Seriously, I leave fruit laying around for them to eat, have areas with no trees, stumps here and there (to provide bugs for them to eat), areas with thick trees for them to hide, etc. So what else do they want? Will I have to get in an insect psychologist before they go back to creeping around on land?

This is odd but when I ever go to hacked towns I always catch Petaltails. Is a Petaltail seen more often in hacked towns? Also it was in summer when i saw the paetaltail

The Scorpion, Giant Petaltail, and the Bee are still out. You might want to focus on the Scorpion as September is the last month for it this year. The Giant Petaltail will still be out throughout October and the Bee is year-round.

scorpions and tarantulas are easy to get using the ramp method. the thing that annoys me though is when i see the top of a sign on the horizon. i ALWAYS think its a scorpions tail!
