You were having an amazing day. Got a golden watering can, finally caught the colecanth, and Rosie finally gave you her pic! Great day. It's almost midnight when you realize that you forgot to mail that letter, the 'important' one. Townhall looks welcoming enough, shining through the night. When you remember. It's Phyllis's shift. That's sure to bring your good spirits down. You sigh heavily, walking across the welcome matt. Phyllis is there, and you hurry up.
"Hi." she says glumly.
Woah. You weren't expecting this.
"You alright?"
She looks up, "My life sucks."
"Why?"
"You really want to know?" she looks surprised as you nod eagerly, "Well get comfortable, This is gonna take a while." and so the story of Phyllis begins.
Chapter 1
I was two when 'it' happened. Yup, My sister was born. You might know her, goes by the name of Pelly. You like her right? She's nice, smart, pretty... yeah, right. She's actually mean, devious, and snobby. She puts on a good show.
I stood in the doorway of our classic living room. It was when I was in fifth grade, and my parents threw a BBQ. Neighbors, relatives, friends... all were there, and all were talking about the same thing.
"She's so beautiful!"
"What a polite little thing!"
"Look how neat she is!"
"So intelligent!"
"Oh, I'm not any of that!" Pelly's 'modesty' was enough to make me sick. I could see the glint of greediness in her round blue eyes. She was practically begging for attention. Her pure white feathers were perfectly preened and her pink dress complimented her figure. This is my third grade sister.
I looked down at my own white feathers. More brown than white now. I was born a beautiful white color, but brown spots soon appeared, and now covered most of me. I was no longer the one people noticed and complimented. I didn't have many friends, and my parents loved Pelly more. The 'perfect' daughter.
Pelly flashed me a smile of pure evil when she noticed me to the side, forgotten.
I couldn't stand there any longer, and dashed up to my room as fast as I could. I had the Modern furniture set. I love the color black. My walls were black, with silver stars painted on them. This was the only place I could think. I passed the pictures of me and Sable, the note Pete gave me, and the purple feather my favorite singer, Canary had signed for me, all the way to my window seat. It was comfy, and I usually ended up sleeping there. Tonight, it comforted me, to know that my room would always be here for me. But that didn't stop the silver tears from streaming down my face.

Me, Sable, Pete, Lable and Mable were sitting around a table outside StarDucks.
"How's your mom?" I asked the Able sisters.
"Not so good," Sable replied glumly, "She's already on her fifth treatment, and isn't getting any better. The doctors think she's going to... to..." she covered her face with her paws.
"I bet she's going to prove those doctors wrong," Pete declared. Mrs. Able was a very stubborn woman.
Lable sipped thoughtfully on her tea, "Pete's right, mom's going to win this battle."
I sighed and patted Mable on the back. These were my friends, Sable, my age, and my best friend since forever. Pete, also in 8th grade, and totally cute. We'd become friends in third, when I accidently spilled hot soup on his head. Mable was Sable and Lable's little sister, and despised Pelly as much as I did, so she got to tag along with us. And Lable was the oldest Able sister, she was two years older, and an amazing designer!
This was our 'group', and not even a spoiled girl like Pelly could change that.

I scraped the rest of my salad off my plate. Pelly was acting as sweet as can be, and kicking me as hard as she could under the table.
"And I got an A+ on my report today, and donated some money to that poor town Boondox..." she smiled at our parents, "May I please have some more of your delicious hamburgers?" me being a vegetarian was the perfect opportunity for Pelly to score points with our parents.
"Why of course Pelly, glad to know our cooking is appreciated." My mother sent a meaningful glance at me. I stood up and headed to my room, wanting to be alone. I looked at my reflection in a mirror. All brown accept for a single white patch on my forehead. Great.
Almost as soon as I reached my room, I heard Pelly say, "Mom, Dad, may I please be excused?"
And just like that, she was standing in my doorway, "Your covered in dirt," she said boredly.
I sighed, "What do you want Pelly."
"Just to tell you how ugly your room is." she yawned, "And that I'm trying out for the lead in the school play."
"What?!" being in the school play was MY thing, what I liked to do! Especially since we were doing my favorite play, "Bye Bye Birdy" and that I was trying out for the lead. I felt betrayed, but I should have expected this. Pelly always outdid everything I did. It was degrading.
Pelly smiled wickedly, then gracefully left my room.

"Why, why, WHY?!" I groaned. My friends stood around my desk, trying to comfort me.
"She probably can't sing."
"Or dance."
"Maybe she will get sick."
"Or literally break a leg."
"Or your parents won't let her."
"Maybe she'll get abducted by Aliens!" Me and Sable rolled our eyes at Pete's last option.
"Children, children! Take your seats!" Ms. Stables said in a 'horse' whisper. Just another day. Just another problem with Pelly.
"Who can tell me the founder of our town of Treehut?"
Blathers, the nerdiest kid in school, raised his hand quickly.
"Yes Blathers?"
"Mayor Snapper Tortimer."
"Very good. And what holiday is coming up?"
Blathers wing shot up.
"Yes?"
"The Founders Festival."
"Yes. Which means-"
"There's going to be music, food, dancing, contests, and no school."
The class cheered. I clapped, "Yes!"
"And now to introduce our new student, Tom. Say hello Tom." A Raccoon muttered, "Hello Tom..."
I saw Sable get misty eyed. She straightened up, and smoothed her bristles.
I smiled, at least some ones in for a good day.

Wow, this is a very well written story! I like the way you use the stories the characters sometimes tell you in the actual game (like the Ables Sister's parents, that Sable has a soft spot for Tom....). I didn't really come looking for fanfics, but I saw it on the Site Related Boards as I was looking through them. I realised it was a fanfic and thought I may as well read it. I'm very glad I stumbled across it! Looking forward to the next chapter! However the one thing I find a little confusing, is how you jumped from being a normal human character in the prologue to being Phyllis in the main story. I guess it's good in a way, switching perspectives in a story makes it more interesting.

As soon as the bell rang, Sable made a beeline for Tom.
"What's up with her?" Pete followed Sable with his eyes. Sable had reached the raccoon, and after about ten seconds, they hugged each other tightly.
"I think somethings going on that she's not telling us about." I ran over to the two, "Hey! What's going on?" Sable was grinning like a maniac, "This is Tom, an old family friend, you've met before." a vivid memory flashed through my mind. I was five, and we were playing hide and go seek. Me, Sable, Lable, and Mable looked and looked, but we couldn't find the tiny raccoon. He had fallen asleep under the sewing machine in the Able's shop.
"Oh yes, I remember this guy." I leaned against the wall, "Got a lot taller, Huh Sabes," I grinned, and she blushed. Yep. I also remember the time four year old Sable got 'married' to four year old Tom. It was ex specially funny since Sable was about a head taller than him at the time. Now it was reverse.
I glanced at the near bye clock, "Oh shoot, Flying Class, bye!"
Flying Class was required for all birds (Well most of them) and all the birds from all grades were there. Me, Pete, Pelly, Blathers, Celeste, Gulliver, some other birds, and a few confused looking penguins.
"All right then!" Ms. Earhart said, blowing her whistle, "Line up! Lets see what you can do." we did as we were told, and unfortunately, Pelly was next to me.
"On my mark, take to the air. Ready. And... *Tweet*" Pelly was first up of course. She was graceful enough, it being her first time, but she landed quickly, out of breath. Pete was next, he stayed in the air for the longest time, not graceful at all, but pretty good. And before I knew it, my feet lifted off the ground and I was air born. I felt alive, free. I was weightless, and no one could bring me down. I dove, flipped, and cart-wheeled across the sky. I heard my classmates cheering me on, and Ms. Earhart was clapping, "Well done!" I landed softly.
"A++! That was the best flying I've seen in years! Good show!" Pelly was glaring at me. I gave her a little wave, and with a huff, she spun on her heal, poor little Celeste running behind her, carrying Pelly's homework.

"That was amazing what you did back there!" Pete said, running beside me, "I loved the feeling, didn't you?"
"It felt... like I was flying!"
"'Course it did dummy!" he playfully punched my arm.
I took note of some penguins still trying to fly, I went over to one that had just fallen over, "Maybe you should try swim team instead..."
He looked glum, "But I've never gone swimming before,"
"Never to late to try." I started walking again, feeling great. I had been better than Pelly! And it was awesome!

I walked into Able&Able clothing store. A cold breeze blew into my hot face. Mr. Able was sitting behind the counter, reading a fishing magazine, "Go on in Phil," he said without looking up. I pushed through the door behind the sewing machine, and walked into the Able's house.
They had a living room, upstairs, and two side rooms. I headed into Sable's and Mable's bedroom, and found all my friends there, gathered around something.
"What's going on?" I asked.
Sable looked up excitedly, "Lable got a letter from Gracie!" I gaped, The Gracie?! I rushed forward, to where Lable was clutching a piece of paper. She shushed us, then began to read;
"Dear Labelle, You are absolutely fabulous! The pictures of your designs blew me away! You must come visit me sometime. We simply must talk! You're definately only second to moi!
Kisses! Gracie"
"Ohmaigosh!" Sable swooned dramatically, "Gracie is the most fabulous person in the world!"
I peered at the note, "She spelled your name wrong,"
"Who cares? She wrote to me!" Lable hugged the note, then quickly smoothed out the creases.
"What designs did you show her?"
"It's a secret till farther notice."
"Come on sis! You can trust us!"
"Nope."
The begging turned to arguing, which then turned into a pillow fight. Mable joined in, then Tom and Pete came, and jumped in, each grabbing a stuffed animal. It truly was an awesome day.

I love Phyliss. I used to have a fanfic about her. It was all about Phyliss and Pelly and Pete. Pelly was really mean, Pete was really nice, and Phyliss was a little depressed

I stumbled through the empty school halls, arm in arm with Sable and Pete. We were laughing about some hilarious joke that I can't even remember.
"We should skip class more often!" I could hear the sarcasm in his voice. We weren't skipping... class wasn't even going on. We were free to rome the hallways. I spotted Pelly some ways down the hall, gossiping with her sixth grade friends.
Among them were a white cat named Bianca, she held herself in a way that said, I know I'm pretty, but I'm nice too. The cat seemed unsure of where to stand, because across the hall, was another group. Misfits. Mable, Katrina (who was some goth cat, lioness thing), Sahara (Exchange student), Celeste (Blathers star obsessed sister), and a few others.
Katrina was Bianca's best friend, but Bianca was pretty enough to hang with Pelly.
I motioned to my friends to keep quiet and we hid behind a near bye trash can.
"And so I said to him, 'Why would I go out with a dirty-' Bianca, where are you going?" Pelly stopped mid story, and sent Bianca one of her famous stares.
"Um... nowhere." The white cat mumbled.
"Get over here, don't you want to know how I turned down Joey?"
"Of course." Bianca scurried back to the group. Monique and Purrl scowled at her. The White cat was Pelly's favorite.
"As I was saying-"
"'scuse me." The pitch black lioness had stepped forward, "May I talk to Bianca?"
Pelly smiled sweetly, "She would, but we don't mingle with strays like you."
Katrina frowned, "Then why is she talking to you?"
With a screech Pelly launched herself at Katrina. My sister has a really, REALLY short fuse. I exchanged glances with Pete and Sable, and we launched ourselves into the fight, which now both groups were involved in.
"Break it up-OW- BREAK IT UP!" Pete yelled out as some claws went across his face. The animals froze when they noticed eighth graders were among them. I pulled Pelly up by her dress, "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR DOING?!"
Pelly calmly smoothed her feathers, "Taking care of an unwanted stray."
Katrina spat and hissed in the cool but utterly creepy way cats do.
I pushed Pelly, "Looks like you lost." she had scratches everywhere.
"We'll see." she spun on her heal, and started to flounce off, her possy close behind her, "Celeste, Books!" The small owl trailed after them, lugging Pelly's homework and text books with her.
Me and my friends left the sixth graders to tend to their wounds, and continued on our way.
Pete was the first to speak, "I'd say we just saw a full blown 'cat' fight." The joke was so dumb, I had to laugh until tears came out of my eyes. Silver tears.

Me and Sable were having a sleep over and looking through 'Ms. Nintendique' at eleven pm. This issue covered Canary, The best musician ever.
"'I love dying my feathers!'" The colorful pelican was saying in her interview, "'I use the colors to show how I feel! But I usually keep them purple, the color for everything! It's for royalty, love, happiness, sadness, anger... It's for all occasions! Plus, it's my favorite color.'"
"What color would you dye your quills Sable?"
she smiled, "I'd keep them the same. I love my natural look." I glanced at her brown fur, "It's cool, I guess... But I'd love to dye my feathers purple, like Canary!" I pretended to zone out, "Me. Center stage. All's quiet. Then suddenly... DUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRN! Guitar solo!" I struck a pose, then lost balance and toppled to the floor.
Sable poked her head over the side of the bed, "I though you were a bird. They're known for being Graceful."
"Haha. Now help me up."
I took a look in the near bye mirror, fantasizing. Brown, boring feathers to purple, amazing, BAM! feathers.
"Have you told your parents about the fight today?"
I snorted, "Are you kidding? They wouldn't believe me."
"How do you know?"
"It's Pelly we're talking about."
"Oh, right."
We sat in silence for a few minutes.
Crash!
We both screamed, and hit the floor.
"What is it?" Sable whispered.
I peered around my bed, to find that my window screen was bashed through, and a small, glass ornament I really didn't care about at all was smashed to bits, I heard arguing outside, "Tom! I told you you were aiming too high!"
"Not my fault! You kept distracting me!"
"I was not!"
"Oh yeah? What was that dance you were doing then?"
"I had to go to the bathroom!"
"Why'd you stop?"
Silence.
"You WHAT?"
Me and Sable collapsed on the floor laughing.
"Pete? Tom?" I gasped out, looking out the window.
"Hey girls! We have a little proposal..."
