Hey guys, just wanted to tell you all that not everyone that plays AC:CF is a nice person. There are people out there who will want to wreck your town and ruin your hard work, because it's their idea of fun. Don't worry, all of this is preventable, and I'm going to show you what can happen and how to prevent it.
The dangersStealing (very likely) - Some people will steal any items or flowers on the ground without your permission. It can easily happen if nobody is in the vicinity.
Vandalism (possible) - People run through your hybrids and flowers and chop down trees. It can have horrible effects if you've put all your hard work and effort into it.
What are the solutions?Solution #1; If not much damage has been done and you think you can fix it, simply point your Wii Remote at the screen and click the Pen icon in the top-right corner of the screen. Select "Quit now" and everybody in your town will be returned to their homes and your gate will be closed.
Solution #2 If too much has happened and you don't think you can bear to face the problems afterwards, simply hit the OFF switch on your Wii Remote or your Wii console itself. This will return your town to the state it was before the last save. You won't get Resetti, because Nintendo know that thievery and vandalism can happen, so they don't give you a bashing by a mole with an anger problem when you turn off during a Wi-Fi session.
Prevent it before it startsRandom FCRs. Someone sends you a random FCR. Who are they? How do they know you? Most importantly, WHY do they want your friend code? DECLINE IT. Don't accept an FCR unless you know the person and you're positive they don't show any threat to your town.
User ratings. If you go to somebody's profile, you can scroll down until you see
WiFi Friend Code Rating. Click on the text which shows how many ratings they've received, and it will show you the individual ratings from the individual people they've Wi-Fied with. On their main profile, it shows their overall rating, which is an average of all the ratings they've received. If somebody has even one rating which shows bad behaviour in somebody else's town, then you really shouldn't be adding them onto your roster.
Items on the ground. If there are no items outside on the ground, then there is nothing for visitors to steal. If you have flowers outside, and don't mind taking them inside, you should do. If you must keep them outside, remember these points -
Make regular rounds of your town. That way, you can see if anything was stolen. If it has, you can easily go ahead with Solution #1, or if they were valuable hybrids, Solution #2.
Keep your visitors in sight. If anybody who hasn't been in your town before is running all over the place, and isn't talking to you, there is a possibility they might be perfoming vandalism on your town. Keep any new visitors in sight, and make sure you don't let them venture wherever they want.
Asking to save. If somebody asks to save, and gives you a stupid reason such as "I bought a hat" then you should go and check around town first, especially if they are a new visitor to your town. They could of vandalized your town, and if you save, then the damage is permanent. This also adds on to keeping regular checks of your town during Wi-Fi visits, because if somebody enters your town then it saves the game before they arrive. If this happens, the damage, again, is permanent.
Set your boundaries. In the very unlikely event of a hacker being in your town, only let good friends into your house. Also make sure that if any valuable items or hybrids are placed in a certain area, set down some patterns showing people not to walk through into that area.
Randomly leaving. If a visitor randomly leaves without warning, especially if they haven't been saying anything, there is a possibility they've stolen something and are trying to get away with it as quick as possible. If you suspect any stealing from visitors, and then they all of a sudden leave your town without saying goodbye, you should turn off your game just in case. You should explain to the other visitors on ACC why you turned off, because they might be left confused.
TrickeryThe nasty people out there that steal and vandalize have lots of tricks up their sleeves to get away with what they're doing, while keeping you totally unaware. There's a few of those that I'd like to point out to you.
Hide and seek. Some people may ask you to play hide and seek, and for you to be the seeker. Then they might ask you to count inside the museum, Nook's, your house or in the corner of town. This is their excuse to go around tree chopping and item stealing while you're busy counting. If somebody leaves or asks you to save in the middle of counting, they've most likely done something to your town and you should check around to see if anything has been damaged.
I forgot my fishing rod, shovel etc. If somebody announces that they forgot one of their tools or an important item, and need to go and fetch it, then you should do a quick check around town first, to see if that's their excuse to save the game while they leave and make any damage permanent. Try and make sure that they don't get away with this.
Can I catalog some items? Yes, they might just be wanting to fill up their catalog. But, whilst they're doing this, make ABSOLUTE SURE to stay in the area where the catalog items are. Usually when cataloging, people pick up the items and then drop them again. But if nobody's looking, they can easily not drop the items and then run off home with them. Make sure to tell them to drop the items again.
There's much more trickery that thefts and vandals do, but those are the main ones.
Don't worry, not all this means that you should be paranoid of whoever comes into your town. Follow this advice and be careful of who comes into your town, and you can have fun in your town without fear of thefts and vandals!
