The last thread got rather cluttered, with the same topics being brought up repeatedly. This thread is just to have what we know at the start, so everyone can see it before posting. Please don't post anything regarding the list of things we know.

For clarification purposes, when the term "turnips" is used, it refers to white turnips, whereas to refer to Red Turnips, the term Red Turnips is specifically used.

Things we know (As in no evidence to the contrary)

-Prices change at noon everday-
There's an AM price, and a PM price. "Spikes;" or high prices, can happen in either.

-The table glitch works-
This is when you place a tool, stationary, or some sort of flat object that your character can walk on on the floor in front of a table, then drop the turnip on the table. It will never rot if you leave it on that table.

-Turnips only spoil on Sundays-
If you do the table glitch mentioned above, you can take it off and leave it somewhere else for the rest of the week. That way you can keep your feng shui up or just keep your house looking nice.

-Turnips cannot go in letters, nor in cabinets/wardrobes/dressers-

-Turnips can be put in the Lost & Found-

-If you bury turnips, they will still spoil-

-Red Turnips Max at 16,000 Bells-
Can't get anymore for them.

-Red Turnips work independantly of Nook's buying price-
You'll get the same price for your Red Turnip when the buying price is 60 Bells, or when it's 600 Bells.

-Red Turnips stop growing after one week-

-You may only buy one Red Turnip a week-
If you have 2 or more characters in your town, you can still only get the one Red Turnip seed.

Things being tested (As in, not being 100% confirmed, still some doubt)

-Do turnips in the Lost & Found spoil?

-Does the amount of turnips you buy from Joan effect the price the next week? i.e. Does she lower the price the next week if you buy a lot one week, does it remain constant if you always buy the same price, etc?

-Does the quantity purchased effect prices during the week?

-What indicates what the highest price will be?

-What all effects the prices? i.e. Does Feng Shui? HRA score? Number of trees?

-Do turnips spoil at 6am Sunday morning? If not, what time do they spoil exactly?

-Week types?

So that's what we have so far, and are looking for at the moment. Feel free to jump in and contribute in any way you want, be it ideas, data, whatever. All are welcome.

The old thread will be locked relatively soon by me, mentioning this as the new place to go.

Best of luck to us!

And if anything written above isn't clear to you, it's ok to ask about it. Just PT me and I'll do my best to explain.

Sweet. I was worried when I saw that the old one was deleted, but now I'm as happy as can be.

I'm now positively postive that Nook's buying prices change on Sunday if TT back. For example. It's Saturday morning. The price is 101 bells. You TT to Sunday and back. The turnip prices is now 43 bells.

Here's my evidence:

Sat. morning - 58 bells.
TT to Sun. and back
Sat. morning - 53 bells.
Sat. afternoon - 72 bells
TT to Sun. and back
Sat. afternoon - 53 bells.

What I found weird was that the price became 53 bells each time. Maybe my game likes that number.

I've barely started getting into the Stalk Market about 3 weeks ago, but I thought I'd try and contribute to this thread.

The first week, I didn't know what to do, so I only purchased 300 turnips for 102 bells each. In the middle of that week, Nook bought em for 600+ per turnip which was awesome yet upsetting since I only had 300 turnips.

So the second week, I purchased 1400 turnips at 102 bells each. There wasn't a spike, so they're sat and waited on the tables.

Third week, I purchased 600 more turnips at 110 bells each. I now have 2000 turnips sitting on 4 watermelon tables and a snowman table -- waiting for that spike.......

Like I said, I haven't been doing this long enough to notice any patterns if there are any, but I'll try and pay attention.

So far, I think Joan's selling price as well as Nook's purchasing price may simply be random (aside from possible effects of Feng Shui & lucky items). The first two weeks were sold at the same price, but I bought a whole lot more the second week, yet the price went up 8 bells per turnip the following week -- unless she raise the price the more you buy..? Maybe Nook buys for more when you have less...

P.S. I recall reading someone's post about how they Feng Shui-ed their house to the max and Nook's turnip price never went below 100. 3 out of 5 rooms in my house are very Feng Shui-ed, but the prices still go below 100 for me.

I once did an experiment in Feng Shui, but at the time I didn't understand how it had changed, so my feng shui was likely very minimal. Now I have three rooms that are very feng shui, and two more that are mildly feng shui.

My prices do dip below the 100s rather often, although the last two weeks have had some higher prices in them. So I've yet to see if it's really done anything special for me.

-MRCrimson

As far as I know, and from what someone posted on the old thread, (now locked btw) is that through the week the price steadily climbs, as long as you water the Red Turnip once a day, at least.

"Here's a list of red turnip prices throughout the week.

Day 1 (Sunday) - 2 bells

Day 2 (Monday) - 100 bells

Day 3 (Tuesday) - 500 bells

Day 4 (Wednesday) - 2,000 bells

Day 5 (Thursday) - 4,000 bells

Day 6 (Friday) - 8,000 bells

Day 7 (Saturday) - 16,000 bells

Day 8 (Sunday of the following week) - 16,000 bells"
Credit to Nintendo111 for that little data pile. I don't know if weather would effect the growth of it, but I don't really see why it should. By all means, a turnip should not be growing in the middle of February anyways.

-animalcrosser92

That makes total sense to me, I do suggest however, getting a full index of prices, like say "Sat AM,PM ; travel to Sunday and back ; Sat AM,PM ; travel to Sunday and back ; Sat AM,PM" and have a week or two, so that way it's on different days. I do think you're right though, I think prices change as long as you TT at least one day. I know prices don't change if you TT during the day, that's how I get all my morning prices. I go back, get it, then go to the afternoon again, where it's still the same.

-ChristyK

As one of the mods, Highguy7612 pointed out at one point, computers can't make real random numbers, only produce what seems like random numbers. It has some formula. And I doubt we'll ever get that formula, but I do think that there is some trend to the prices, such as, "if the week starts out in such-and-such-a-way then it will do whatever."

I also think that feng shui may have some effect, albeit not a huge one.

I believer animalcrosser92 was looking into how quantity effected prices...

I wrote this in the last post of the old thread,so I'm posting it again.

In the next few weeks I'm going to make a chart, comparing Nooks buying prices and Joans selling prices.Maybe theres a limit for the small spike and a big spike.

I think its like this:

High Turnip Spikes=Feng Shui+Luck+Joans turnip price.
Bad Turnip Spikes=Bad Luck+Joans Turnip price.

What I mean is that depending on your luck and Feng Shui, its more likely for the spike to bend towards the maximum spike, that depends on the price you bought the turnip.

For example:

I bought turnips for 100 each.
The biggest spike i can get is 200 each.
The smallest spike i can get is 20 each.
If I have good luck and good feng shui its more probable for the spike price get close to 200,but if i have bad luck, then, its more possible for me to get the minimun spike.

P.S:This example is just a thought. If you buy turnips for 100 bells each, you can get higher spikes then 200.
P.P.S:The thought about High Turnip Spikes=Feng Shui+Luck+Joans turnip price, has nothing based on math.I only wrote it that way so it would be easy to understand.
P.P.P.S id you know that if you drop any equipment in front of an empty table, then stay on top of that equipment and then drop turnips on there, they will stay over the table and will never spoil.
P.P.P.P.S:i never tryed that trick so I'm not sure if its correct.

How many Ps!

I think I'm going to get a major increase (like 500+) tomorrow afternoon.
I really wish I'd kept data from the first time this happened so I could compare. I don't remember the exact prices, but I remember the behavior of the selling price being very similar to what they are now (ie. it dipped below what I bought it at until Wednesday afternoon, when it went up quite a bit...then up to about 200 on Thursday morning, and 544 in the afternoon) I'll post my data once it's complete for this week, but I'm starting to think this might happen every time I buy at 102 (since the price that previous time was, if I remember right, at or very near 102)

About the red turnip... The first Sunday I bought it, I planted it and watered it (A LOT). That Tuesday, I saw Pascal, and for some stupid reason, I thought he was the one that does the long chain of trading, so I dug up the red turnip.

Rather than waiting to see if Wendell will come by, I went ahead and sold it to Nook -- he bought it for 2,000 bells even though it was only 2 days since I planted it. I remember this specifically because the next day was a Wednesday and I sold my 300 turnips for 600+ bells per.

I'm sure the price does increase steadily throughout the week, but just wanted to point out it COULD be in different increments.

I have a theory that the turnip price spikes only happen late in the week (Thurs/Fri/Sat).  Three weeks of monitoring prices myself, and also watching for when friends have price spikes, seem to agree with it.

Still could just be luck though, and it only takes one example to prove me wrong.  So - have you had a big price jump early in the week?

Nice, soccerstud10. We were wondering about that.

Oh, and Hobbs I'll be able to TT ALOT more when I complete my Water World. All the patterns will stop weed growth. I should be done by the end of the week. So I'll TT around checking when prices change, weekly prices, etc.

Thanks a lot soccerstud, that saves me some effort. That means we have a much more efficient manner of saving turnips, as you can fit approximately 1500 (right? 15x100=1500) in the Lost & Found. Which is a fairly good amount, especially if you're me, and that's all you buy.

animalcrosser, if you could, I'd like you to do me a favor. Since you TT, and seem ok with it, I'd like you to buy several red turnips in your travels this week. I would do it myself, but I have a weird set of guidelines for TT. I will only do it by changing the hour of the day I'm on, like from 6pm to 11am or something, so I can check turnip prices, or look for Gulliver if I didn't see him that morning, or whatever. TT within the day.

Anyway, if you would, buy like 5 red turnip seeds, then through the course of the week, water one once, one twice, one thrice, one 5 times, and the last one 8+ times (but make it constant) each day. Then each day, dig it up and see how much Nook will pay, record, reset. And so on for the week. So we can see how much waterings effect growth.

I have heard of Monday spikes, although I've never had one myself.

Gee, I would, but Joan hasn't sold me red turnips since the first Sunday in January. But I'll TT around and try to determine that. First, I need to finish Water World, which should be completed tommorow afternoon, due to school. If I can't get them in my town I'll go to my bro's town and TT around there. He could care less.

Just curious, I've never bought any yet but I saw that you enter a number in a keypad to buy the turnips, and the highest number is 990. What happens when you buy 990? Does she give you one turnip of 990 or 9 turnips of 100, 1 of 50 and 4 of 10?
