When donating to Boondox, many people ruin their chances at obtaining feathers.
Here are a few things you need to remember when donating to Boondox:
1) The totals are cumulative. Later in this guide, I will give the total amounts for each feather, and then the amounts you actually need to donate to get the next feather. The donations are also cumulative between characters in town. So, if all of the characters in your house donate and it all adds together.
2) When donating, always keep track of what you have sent. If you don't, it is really easy to miscount and skip a feather.
3) Only donate once in a single day. If you donate more than once a day, you may over-donate and skip a feather.
4) If you skip a feather, there is no way to get it except through giveaways or a hacking device. No character in that town will be able to receive the feather you have skipped.
5) Always wait to receive the feather you are expecting in the mail before donating again to avoid over-donating.
So, the way it works is you donate 10,000 bells, receive the green feather, then donate 190,000 bells (makes a total of 200,000 bells) and receive the blue feather. Then, donate 300,000 bells (makes a total of 500,000 bells) and receive the yellow feather. ETC.
Keeping Track of Donations There are many different ways to keep track of your donations. Here are a few that I've used and have read of others using.
1) Letters. Whenever you donate to Boondox, you can write a letter to yourself telling the donation about and your running total of donations. Mail it to yourself and keep it in your pockets or letter save at the post office. Before donating again, look at the letter and you can know how much to donate and, more importantly, how much not to donate, so that you don't skip a feather.
2) Bulletin Board. This is a little more difficult because eventually, the messages get pushed back and deleted from the bulletin board. But, if it suits you, you can use it. Just post how much you donate and a running total.
3) Paper and Pencil. Some people like to just keep a sheet of paper with a list of their Boondox donations and a running total.
Either way you choose to keep track of it, I highly suggest donating in full amounts. Save the money in your bank account until you have the amount needed to donate to get the next feather. (The plus is that you will receive interest if it's in the bank for more than a month.) Then, you can donate the full amount and wait for the next feather in the mail.
You won't have to worry about missing a feather if you keep track of your donations.

I don't mean to post twice in a row, but I thought of something else.
Methods of Donating
There are typically two ways to go about donating to Boondox. Either way you choose, it is important to keep track of how much you donate.
1) Small, Daily Increments. Some people prefer to donate this way as they are guaranteed not to miss a feather. Donating in increments of 10,000 bells every day you play can get you the feathers. However, doing so will take a lot of time and patience on your part.
2) Full Amounts. Others prefer to donate the full amounts needed to reach the next feather. This is good too, as long as you are absolutely sure of how much you need to donate, so that you do not over-donate.
Boondox Letters
Another thing to note about Boondox Donations is the letters you receive. If you donate in full amounts, you will receive only the letters accompanied by the feathers. However, if you donate in small, daily increments, you may see some empty letters throughout your donation history. Don't worry! This doesn't mean you have missed a feather, it just means that the game is trying to encourage you to continue donating. I do not know the amounts you will hit when you get these empty letters, but you may get quite a few before you reach the next feather amount and receive that letter with the feather attached.

rantopian1, if that is all you have donated, then you can still get the purple, white, and rainbow feathers. You can get the ones you missed from a Giveaway here on ACC. There is a Giveaway board.
Next, however, you need to donate 100,000 bells. Then, you should get the purple feather in the mail. After you get the feather, donate 300,000, and you should receive the white feather in the mail. After you receive that feather, donate 5,000,000 and you should receive the last, rainbow feather.

You can over donate and still get a feather. Whether you get the feather you were aiming for depends on whether you trigger an empty thankyou letter from Boondox. The problem is only some of the empty letter levels are known.
Liquefy (walkthru faq on gamefaqs) states blank empty letters occur at 50k, 100k and 3.2million. But there are more.
The most common overdonation which still gives you the feather is: 10k donated for green feather, duly recived, 200k donated for blue feather, duly recieved. Yet your total donations are 210k at this point, rather than the 200k they should be. Players then donate 500k, for the yellow feather, not realising the figures are acumulative, an over donation of 210k, and the yellow feather is missed. In fact at this point you need only donate a further 90k to get the red feather.
The safest way to donate is to donate the exact amounts as listed under donation amounts in increments.
A 10,000 bell donation for the green feather is not an over-donation. That is an exact donation.
You are right, however, that donating 200,000 after the initial 10,000 is and over-donation by 10,000 bells. However, I will not say that everyone will receive the blue feather if they over-donate this one by 10,000 bells because I've heard of some people who haven't.

Ok, since I'm a "grown-up", I'll go for a while without playing, then I'll pick it up again. I have no idea how much I've donated over the past couple of years...but, I think I have all of the feathers except for - THE RAINBOW. I really, really want it!
So, here's the thing: you've noticed that when Pelly and Phyllis accept your money for Boondox, when you've gone up another level, they will say something different, right?
Does anyone have a list of their comments and how they are associated with each feather?
For instance, right now, Phyllis says: "Thanks to your generosity, Boondox is a booming metropolis now!"
Is this the last thing she says? Have I missed the rainbow feather?
Once you obtain the rainbow feather, can you still donate to Boondox?
@ bobozehobo747 and chocolaterocks - No, you cannot just create a new character. All of the characters' donations go towards a single total. So, if you miss a feather with one character, it does no good to create a new one. Each character in town does not get the feathers. Only the character that donated the next amount will get the feather. You can, however, catalog it for each character and it will appear in their catalog, but there is only one set of feathers for each town.
@ PrincessSammy - When did you donate this 10,000 bells? Are you sure that's how much you donated? Your feather could be stuck in the mail somewhere. I would suggest you empty the mailboxes of all characters in your house, then with one character, send 10 letters (to neighbors, or to another character). These 10 letters should push any pending mail through. If you still do not receive the feather, PT me and we can discuss your options.
@ prissbelle - I do not know of any list of their comments. Once you receive/skip the rainbow feather, the game still allows you to donate, but you will not receive any further gifts. So, that is not a way to determine if you've skipped a feather. If you've received all the feathers except the rainbow feather, maybe you just haven't reached it yet. Have you donated in bell increments of at least 1,000 bells? If so, I would donate 1,000 bells each day and see if it comes. However, you might have to get your rainbow feather through a giveaway. There are often rare item giveaways on the giveaway board. If you have missed the feather, then that is the only way to get it... unless you start a new town. Actually, how long ago did you receive the white feather? If it's been a while and you've not donated too much, I don't think you've skipped the rainbow yet because you have to donate 5 million after receiving the white feather. You can PT me if you'd like to discuss this further.

Over-donating includes donating more than the amount to get a feather... it is possible to skip two, three, or more feathers at a time. Some people think they will donate 6,500,000 bells right at the start and then go back and get the rest. Nope. Once they've gotten that rainbow feathers, the rest are impossible.

@ Vitamin_Awesome - Do you know if it was less than 1,000? If so, you would want to donate 100 bells at a time each day until you receive the green feather. Then, you will know that you've donated a total of 10,000 and can move on from there. If you donated in thousands, I would donate 1,000 each day and hope to receive the green feather.
Yes, ShadowMaker13 is correct. The feathers are worn in the hair as an accessory. Even if you don't find a use for them, I would keep them. You cannot re-order them from Nook's catalog. Who knows? Maybe someday you will want to wear one.
