Thanks to Will616636 for putting this guide together.Animal Crossing: Wild World is a very unique game for the Nintendo DS that will surely change everyone's outlook on interacting with others while playing AC. No longer will you have to lug a memory card around, only to let your friend visit your town, but you will now be able to interact with them at the same time. With Nintendo's Wi-Fi connection you will be able to connect with other ACC members from around the world. Whether you're in United States or in Europe, you can interact with other members of the community as long as you speak the same language. Wi-Fi is basically internet without wires, so your DS can connect to it with ease!
There are a few basic things that you will need to get you started:
Option 1-A High Speed connection (DSL, Cable, Satellite, T1, or T3) and either:
1) A Wireless Internet Router
or
2)A Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector
A list of Routers tested by Nintendo as well as their ratings can be found
here.
Option 2-Access to a Wi-Fi Hotspot
Nintendo's Hotspot locater can be found
here.
For information on setting up your connection and for troubleshooting, please visit the
Nintendo Wi-Fi Setup Page.
After you have your connection set up, you will need to visit Copper at your Town Gate (located at the North end of your town). Talk to him and tell him that you wish to begin a Nintendo Wi-Fi connection. After that, he will tell you that you do not have a friend code and will then give you one. This is your friend code that will allow you to visit other's towns, and for others to visit your town.
Next, you must be on ACC. On the left-hand side in the "My ACC" menu, click the link that says "My Friend Codes". After you reach that page, press the edit button and enter your AC:WW Friend Code. It is also required that you link your Friend Code to specific Town and Character. To do so, just select which town and character your Friend Code is for by using the drop-down menus. You also have the option to select "In Menu" and "In Registry". If you select the "In Menu" box, that means that you will see the game beneath your buddy list in the ACC WiFi menu so that you can see which of your friends is online and hosting a game. If you choose not to select this option, that game will not appear in your ACC WiFi menu. There is also a checkbox that is called "ACC Registry". If you do select that checkbox you will be put into the ACC registry for that specific game. That way, someone can see that you have the game and request a friend code from you easier. They can not however, see your Friend Code until you have each accepted a Friend Code Request. To see the ACC Friend Code Registry, just click the button that says "Friend Code Registry" at the top of the My Friend Codes page. Once that is done you may request a friend code from anyone at ACC by clicking the button at the top of the page that says "Friend code requests". You can either select a buddy from your drop-down menu and send them a request, manually enter the name of someone at ACC you wish to send a request to, look through through the ACC Registry and select someone you wish to exchange Friend Codes with by clicking on the DS next to their name, or by clicking the Nintendo DS icon on the right-hand side of their posts on the forum. You may enter a message with any of your requests.
If your friend does accept, you will be able to visit each other's towns, but not until you enter their friend code, town name, and character name into your game. Press the "My Friend Code" button once again and press "Animal Crossing: Wild World". That will display all Friend Codes that you have for AC:WW. Then turn on your game. Once in your town, press the "up" arrow in the right-hand corner of your game screen, and then tap the heart icon. Hit the button that says "Register" and enter the Friend Code that you received from your friend at ACC along with their town and character information.
ACC also has an option for you to be the "host town" meaning that you want your friends to come to your town. To do so, you can either select the time and period that you wish to host on the "Friend Codes" page at ACC under the "My ACC" menu, or if you're ready to host right away, you can just use the Drop-Down menu beneath your buddy list and select how long you are going to be hosting.
To allow people into your town, you must go talk to Copper once again. Tell him that you would like to set up a Wi-Fi connection so that he will open your gate. Once a friend comes to your town, you will be informed by the game.
After your friend has arrived you can do lots of fun things together that were never options before such as fishing together, talking, treasure hunting, and many other things too!
One other feature of the Friend Code tool at ACC is Ratings. Once a player visits your town you will rate them in three categories:
Family Friendliness: Did they use an appropriate choice of words talking to you and writing on your bulletin board?
Well Mannered: Were they kind to your Animals? Did they purposely destroy flowers, trees, or anything else in your town?
Fun: How fun were they? Did you have a good time with them?
The ratings are based out of five stars, 1 star being the lowest rating, and 5 stars being the highest.
The ratings you receive from all users will be averaged together for one rating that will be displayed for you. Many people may judge if they would like you to go to their town based on your rating, so make sure that you are always kind and appropriate when visiting other people's towns!
One final thing: Please be sure not to post your codes on the boards or in PTs
at all. This is not allowed here, and it is what the Friend Code tool was created for, please use it.
