Could you explain this post a bit more? I'm not quite sure what you mean.

I personally think that Flood control is ok. I mean we can wait 5 seconds to post up a new post. I am sure it is ok for the 60 seconds for a new Thread rule. Some times it takes 60 seconds to get from thread to thread, minus the typing time.

Who can actually post a thought out post in 5 seconds? It takes me five seconds to load the page.

Honestly, when I saw they implemented flood control I started to cry.

60 seconds for a new topic and 5 seconds for a new post is fair to me, it takes a lot more than a minute to type up a new thread so by the time you're typing the limit will have gone.

I kind of see your point Kupo. I do see how it's unfair for the non-spamming newbies to deal with these unfair restrictions. It was the only nice sounding plan of action for the spam attacks until a flood control was put into effect. I'm not sure if the newbie restrictions are still there or if they were disabled with the new flood control or what, but I'm excited to see flood control finally here.

Yeah, the New Member restrictions are still here. cmh said there were other reasons for the restrictions, so they're staying for the time being.

It isn't unfair to the non-spamming newbies because it takes 60 seconds to type up a new fourm minus the page-loading time. And yeah, it takes 5 seconds to load the page most of the time. I think it is totally fair.

If the restrictions were longer, I could understand, but 60 secs for a topic and 5 seconds for a new post seem totally fair to me. Bringing more benefit then hinderance, anyway.

I believe the newbie restrictions are still in place to prevent spammers from making multiple accounts. These limits would only apply per user, after all. The newbie restrictions are not worth waiting for more spamming, so they strike both issues.

Shadowsquid86, they can make as many accounts as they want, they just now have to wait 2 weeks before spamming.

Now that the Flood Control is active, why is there still the restrictions? They can't post more and more threads. I really fully expected the Newbie Restrictions to be abolished after the Flood Control was put in place, but I suppose I was wrong.

I know, but it makes making new accounts less convenient. Unless they plan ahead and make all the accounts they need when they first join, the wait will still be in place.

cmh said that there was some reason, and that the restrictions stopped the problem. However, it was never really specified what exactly that reason was. It's probably an issue the staff discussed that they decided not to tell regular users about.

I do not want to go into too much detail regarding it. Some of it is mod/admin only info but they are necessary to prevent successive accounts. They were originally designed with the focus on spamming since that was how things were being abused but spamming was not the sole issue.

So you want to continue something that punishes a few selective members? Do you have a graph or something or know the statistics of how often a new account is created that is meant to be a spammer?
