Guys.. Two things

Whos computer can actually move fast enough for them to even post twice in 5 seconds..? Mines pretty fast, but a page takes half a second to load or so, and this took me five or so minutes to write..

Who can actually come up with enough ideas to fire out two threads per minute? Most people I see have three or so threads.. Unless you are really bored..

But anyway, these restrictions cant hurt, I mean, whats 5 seconds?

Spammers don't care what they write, as long as it is annoying.

shadowsquid, what I meant to say is that limiting the damage of spammers was probably the driving force behind the flood control restirction. And, while my original position is that perhaps 60 seconds is not that long, it might be enough to deter the infamous spammer with his / her multiple windows open just to "have their fun".

Thanks. I know that spammers were the reason this plan was put into action, I was just stating that it would affect only affect the spammers, and no other members would be affected. If some one is posting that often, then they are a spammer or are really bored, which might lead to spamming. I couldn't care less if we could only post a message once every 60 seconds, and post a thread once every 24 hours. I know alot of people post alot, but I honestly think that both amounts should be doubled at least. I would say one thread every 10 minutes, one post every 15 seconds. That equates to spammers being able only to post 4 spam posts a minute, 6 spam threads an hour, then multiplied by the number of accounts. With ten accounts, they could still only post 10 threads in 10 minutes, a thread a minute. And I honestly couldn't see any objections, unless they were by an incredibly chatty person. One can have too much conversation, you know.

i would think about maybe making it 60 sec inbetween posts, as with threads.

this is the way i've seen it done at most other places, and it would help administration get rid of a problem before it gets to out of hand.

thats just my suggestion, but i haven't really seen to much spam on any of the boards i visit around here.

I am glad, however, that you finally set up flood control. I know several members had threads critisizing the site for not having it (such as this one). I assume you set it up partially just to keep us from complaining any longer, lol.

I think the flood control is a good idea. Maybe extending the 'post a new topic' to a bit longer time may help. I mean, you really don't need to set up a new thread every minute (without it being complete spam). I think the 'reply' is okay as it is, as you may want to have a relatively active thread, it's nice to be able to post regularly if others are responding to it at the same time.

No, PT's are not effected at all by the flood control.

Public threads only. If someone spams and sends a bunch of PTs report them for harassment or spamming.

We can tweak the parameters a bit if we need to. 60 seconds between threads is just a starting point.

Nice idea, im sure this can help out alot, and chris, if i can call you that cmh, will this be permanaent or just temporarily, i saw temporarily on the announcment but just wanted ti make sure

Flood control will be a permanent feature. We just need to find the right amount of delay time between posts/threads.

I think the flood control, at least, is perfectly fair. Honestly, anybody talking on the site normally shouldn't be posting more than once every five seconds anyway- it takes that long to navigate from one thread to the next in the first place! And posting a new thread more than once a minute would be weird, too. If it means we can cut down on spammers, then it's a great idea.

I think it's fair to, it's not even long really.

Yes in addition to helping cut down on spam, they address another area that we had problems in and for the most part they are working.

This is perfect, finally we don't have to worry about spam attacks as much anymore.

This is completely fair. I mean, a minute is not long at all. 5 seconds is VERY short, so you probably will never notice that, I don't think.

Personally, I think this is an awesome idea. I only have one doubt, say that you raise the time to 10 or 15 seconds between posts. Then say it is a final minute of a popular auction, Someone outbids you. Then you quickly scramble to hit post reply, when you try to rebid it would not let you because your 10 or 15 seconds are not up yet. So you end up losing that auction. So if you decide to keep this brilliant idea you should not have the between post time above 5 seconds.

Just my opinion.

My only concern is that spammers would end up hopping through threads because if the short time, and just spam currently existing threads.

So, yeah, maybe an increase in the post time might be good.

maybe it could be as the longer you are on ACC in time from joined, a shorter time, since your less likely to spam, like within 5 years no posting retrictions, but 1 year longer

I like that idea, but it might be a bit complicated. And the time should certainly be raised, not even spammers could post in less than 5 seconds, and having to wait one extra second to be able to post doessn't sound like much of a punishment. My opinion holds, 15-30 second post time, 10-15 minute thread time. This would drastically cut down major spam to the point of its extinction. And it is true that some things like auctions would be inconvieniant, but certainly fair. It would be just like ebay, where you are often outbid with no time to respond. I think the posting limit should carry on to PTs as well, as spammers can spam the oddest of places. A user was spamming the birthday list for goodness sake!

i dont realy get why you can not put up with haveing people coming up and saying "hello" or "hi". have you seen he neopets neoboards?everyone is coming up to boards and saying "hi" its a way of being friendly and or "makeing friends"........in this statement i say that none of this should be done no waiting to be able post or create!

p.s.:spamming is just a part of life you have to put up with and or "live with".

its the people who are fired from something or just dont like a person and just posts stupid things they also at times are rude.
