Here, I will explain about the various animals, when they come out, and tips and tricks to catch them.
Tarantula and Scorpion timesThe rarest species of bug. To some, a pest...To some, heaven.
Tarantulas are the first to appear out of hibernation, coming out in June, whilst Scorpions are out in July. They are around in the time areas of 7PM and 4AM. They will not appear if it is raining in your town. If you wish to stop the rain, the easiest thing to do is make a new character. It will force the code in your game to make the weather great. Buuut, this isn't very good if your looking for a Coelacanth.
Tarantula and Scorpion tips and tricksIf you see a tarantula or a scorpion, you will obviously want to catch it. You do it normally:
o Wield net
o Swing net
o Catch bug
I wish it was that easy!
Unlike anything else in the game of Animal Crossing, Scorpions and Tarantulas will bite you. When they bite you, you will fall on the ground, the screen will turn black and you will appear outside your house. Congratulations, you've just missed that 8,000 bell-bag wandering around!
By now, you will most likely be kicking yourself, and decided to consult this guide! I will not disappoint, and without further redue, here is the easiest way to catch a Scorpion/Tarantula.
Note: Do NOT get too close to them without wielding a net or they will run, and possible end up in a river or the sea. Also, if they can see you, just a bit, they will strike...o First of all, DO NOT WIELD A NET. They will only bite you if you are wielding one. You can either wield nothing (In case Wishy the star decides to pay you a visit) or a Slingshot for Gulliver (Though I recommend nothing since you can run in front of Gulliver, equip and shoot whilst Wishy needs split second A pressing)
o Preferably use some MP3 speakers and listen to your game, so that you can hear a rustling sound that the Scorpion and Tarantula makes. You can either walk around or just leave the DS lid open, and read some thing whilst listening.
o When you have heard and spotted a Tarantula or Scorpion, you must now find the front and the back. For a Scorpion, this is easy. Just look for it's tail. But for the Tarantula, it's a different story. If did see it move, just follow behind it, but if not, without wielding the net, walk near it, causing it to get scared and run a few squares.
o After locating which side is the back-side () sneak up behind it. as a general rule of thumb, use the top half of your thumb to measure the distance between you and your buggy friend.
o There is only one thing left to do...
SWING
...and hope for the best. If you do catch it, congratulations! You now have a full museum or an 8,000 bag of bells!

Coelacanth timesCoelacanths are a lot easier to catch, but a lot harder to find.
Found at any time of the year, and between 4pm and 9am, you might think they are common...
WRONG
...It must be raining or snowing to have the privilege to catch one.
Coelacanth tips and trickso Whilst it is raining or snowing, equip a fishing rod and head down to the sea. You are looking for a medium sized fish.
o From here on, once you know the fish is baited, you should put your DS speakers to your ears and when you hear the splash of the bait, hit A. But beware, the Coelacanth tends to take a bite first, then swim off. Just carry on, and soon enough, you'll have that Coelacanth in no time.

SEA BASS!Hmm...Excuse me...Sea Bass are the one and only hate of the Fishermen. They are too common, are sold for next to nothing, and have a shape very similar to the Coelacanth. Once you've caught a sea bass, you'll know:
o The size of the Coelacanth
o How one behaves (Coelacanth)
This will help you loads, in you goal to catch one.
